PALACE FLYING HIGH NOW
Review of Crystal Palace by
Chris_Padden
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...I do not exactly keep it a secret that I am an Exeter City fan ( result at Shrewsbury!), but I also have a soft spot in my footballing life for Crystal Palace.
I believe that people should be able to support at least two teams in their life. First you must always have a soft spot for your local team, no matter what level they are. If it is Liverpool or Livingstone, Real Madrid or Rochdale, especially the smaller clubs need your support. In there I also believe there is a place for another team, one bigger in the top few divisions that you watch out for the results, see a few games and generally have a soft spot for. Some may disagree, say you should be loyal to one, some may also call it glory hunting.
I have very little time for people who do support team when they are winning. If they buy the shirt they call them supporters...

A Palace Of Fun….Or Dreams?
Review of Crystal Palace by
LondonEye
Advantages: Friendly Club With (Some) Passionate Supporters
Disadvantages: Little Chance Of Success
...Crystal Palace.
Mention these two words to a football fan and you will always get a reaction. A knowing smile perhaps. A dismissive gesture. Quite possibly hysterical laughter. But never indifference. So why have Crystal Palace become a club to be laughed at and gossiped about and looked down on? I will admit to supporting the club for much longer than I care to remember and it was not always like this…..
History
The club was originally founded by the workers on the old Crystal Palace in Sydenham, South London in the 1860’s. The current club was formed in 1905 from the remnants of the old club and has been struggling for success ever since! The roll of honour is not long and the list of achievements from nearly 100 years of football is totally underwhelming. Most of these years have been spent around the lower...

A Palace with Promise
Review of Palace of Parliament (Palatul Poporului), Bucharest by
fizzytom
Advantages: Helps put Romania in context, an astounding building
Disadvantages: Uncomfortable history, vulgar and ostentatious decor
...Pol Pot, Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin….the twentieth century certainly had its share of unpleasant and tyrannous leaders. Romania’s Nicolae Ceausescu must surely rank near the top of the list - if there were league tables for nastiness then he would likely be in a medal position. Tales of his evil deeds abound but the Romanian capital, Bucharest, is home to the project that embodied his bizarre and frightening ideas - the Palace of the People. In terms of surface area it is the second largest building in the world, in volume the third largest. It is not just its size, though, that makes it astonishing; millions of Leu were poured into the project while Romania received international aid and its people starved.
The building was not even completed when Ceausescu was overthrown in December 1989 and nearly two decades later it is still...

Hampton Court Palace, right royal welcome
Review of Hampton Court Palace, London by
Writing321
Advantages: Great royal history, inside and out
Disadvantages: None at all
...Henry VIII is arriving on his barge, out on the Thames, the scurry of activity is hectic, all over the palace.
Cast your imagination back to those historic, royal days; fearful, hospitable, sociable and most of all regal times. It's easy to relive life at Hampton Court, guides dress in period costume and talk in the dialect of the day and exhibitions make it come alive. Take time to step back in time!
Time in this case is from 500 years ago. My research tells me that probably the first most famous resident was Thomas Wolsley, who took over the palace in 1514 when he became Archbishop of York. He had to give it up when Henry VIII wanted it- I think he wanted to keep his head, so gave up the palace!
Henry took over around 1537 and his only son was born there and christened in the Chapel Royal; a couple of days later the baby...

A palace fit for a (very spoiled) Lemur
Review of ELTHAM PALACE by
duskmaiden
Advantages: Architechture, good value for moneym not too busy
Disadvantages: bit off the beaten track, not open Saturdays
...When you think of royal residences in the London area you think of Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace and perhaps the Tower of London or Hampton Court. No one would mention Eltham Palace even though it is where the young Henry VIII spent the vast majority of his childhood.. Eltham Palace is in a far flung corner of suburban south east London thus is a little known gem far far away from the touristtrap of central London. It's a palace with a difference as it is more cosy, intimate and at first sight not very royal at all due to the new 1930s wing. You may recognise the interiors as it has been used in films and television programs set in the 30s such as I capture the Castle and Brideshead Revisited.
Eltham Palace is a fascinating building architecturally, with a very interesting history. It's actually half medieval Great Hall...

A Grand Palace of Italy
Review of Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale), Venice by
gizmoregis
Advantages: Architecture, Art, History
Disadvantages: Restoration causes issues
...- Doge's Palace -
If you land in Venice from the sea, as did those who came inland by ship, the first thing you see rising out of the water is the unmistakable shape of the Doge's Palace - the city's most famous building built to show the citys wealth and the Doges power
WHAT IS IT??
For centuries the Doge's Palace had three fundamental roles: as the Doge residence, the seat of government and as the palace of justice. This was where some of the most important decisions for Venice's, and even Europe's destiny were taken.
THE DOGE
The system of elected doges was as singular as everything else about this very singular city, and lasted for 1000 years. A vast bureaucracy of elected civil servants, committees and councils was presided over by the only figure elected for life, the doge. He played a huge role in steering policy...

Imperial Palace
Review of Forbidden City (Imperial Palace), Beijing by
gaosha
Advantages: too many advantages
Disadvantages: some modern stuff break the environment
...This palace has buit in Qing Dynasdy, many Kings in Qing Dynasdy use to live in this palace. It has been rebuilt many times in order to showing for tourist. it is one of the most famouse attractions in Beijing and even China. Thousands of people go to visit the imperial palace everyday, it attracts lots of foreiners as well. From this palace, I have learned a lot of Chinese history, especially the Qing Dynasdy part. It located just in the middle of Changan road, not for from the shopping place, at the time I have been there, I went by underground, which cost only 3 yuan. I have been there 3 times, each time I was gaining different experience.
One interest thing is I find a starbucks in the imperial palace, it is not very good though, it break the whole environment at all. Because this palace is a very traditional structure, I think...

Not Caesars Palace, but a Palace in its own right
Review of Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas by
Rog13
Advantages: Good location, good facilities and good price
Disadvantages: Not great for sunbathing
...I had dreamed of visiting the entertainment and gambling capital of the world for many years, and not just through a desire to play poker in some of the world's greatest venues but to see one of the most mind-blowing cities imaginable.
Being brutally honest my partner and I only opted to stay at the Imperial Palace for our week-long trip because of the price, if money wasn't an option then the likes of The Venetian, Bellagio and Caesar's Palace would have been but some of the obvious choices.
Be that as it may I am glad we stayed where we did given the alternatives available on our budget.
The Imperial Palace is ideally located slap bang in the middle of the Las Vegas strip standing just a short walk away from the Mirage, Venetian, Bellagio, Aladin and Caesar's Palace.
Staying at the IP meant we were never too far away from...

Riu Palace Hotel, Madeira
Review of Riu Palace Madeira, Madeira by
Helenofellon
Advantages: A fantastic holiday experience
Disadvantages: Location, in particular for those with mobility problems although the hotel is disability friendly.
...INTRODUCTION
The Riu Palace in Madeira sits like a white-washed fairytale castle with terracotta turrets, corner towers and grand archways looking out over the sapphire-blue sea. The grounds house brightly coloured flowers and palm trees making you believe you are on a Caribbean island far away.
The Riu Palace is located right on the seafront at Canico de Baixo, only 10 minutes drive from Funchal Airport and 20 minutes drive to the city of Funchal. On arrival at the airport everything ran smoothly and quickly apart from me not recognising my own suitcase!!! We were driven to the hotel in a small mini bus with 5 other people and half an hour later we were sunbathing by the pool. Now that's what I call service.
CHECK IN
From the moment you check in at the impressive, grand reception area with its polished marble flooring, elegant...
