...seen "compeed coldsore patches" advertised on telly. They claimed to make the coldsore look non-existant and you couldn't even tell you had the patch on. At the time i did not see the point on buying the compeed as i did not have a coldsore. Guess what decided to pop up on my face the night before my year 11 prom! Yes, thats right a COLDSORE!! It could honestly have not come at a more better timing (not). I remember sitting in my living room just wanting to cry, it was my prom and i wanted to look stunning, how was i going to look like that with a big hideous lump on my face! That's when the compeed came to rescue me. I got my parents to go and buy me a pack the night before prom, but no where sold them!!!! Asda, local chemists, the nearest boots all did not have any. ...I've been using Compeed patches for my cold sore outbreaks for the last year or so now. I'd concur with some of the other accounts in that they can be a bit difficult to apply, and if you're unlucky enough to get cold sores close to the inside of your lips then they're next to useless since they come away easily due to the moisture. I'm quite "lucky" in that my cold sores are generally far enough away from the inside of my mouth to not have this problem (when they are I switch back to Zovirax) and so in these circumstances I can give the patches a big thumbs up. Outbreaks are now fixed in a couple of days as the scabs never form, if I get them on a Tuesday (like today!) then I'm sure I can stop wearing them by the weekend (although the skin remains a little tender for a while). ...I have suffered with cold sores for many years but thankfully don't have frequent attacks. The creams (mainly Zovirax) do help, but as you still have to go through the blister period. I decided to give Compeed a go. They come in a dispenser which means that they remain hygenic when chucked in a handbag, but at nearly £6 for 15 patches they are over priced for the benefits they provide. They are easy to apply and it does look a lot nicer than a blob of cream on your lip. You need to take care that you don\'t over stretch the patch on your lip when first applying as it then feels strange and the patches don't last as long. I also found that they feel like they are peeling off when they get damp from eating or drinking. And when they get damp then they become more visible and are as not as discreet. ...I know everyone has given this product a rave review but I feel I have to add a lone voice of dissent. I accept that the patch covers the cold sore but that was the only advantage I discerned. I have tried to express my concerns to Compeed themselves but their website makes it pretty clear that they do not want to know if you have had a problem, telling you to go to your GP. Like many of you out there I have had cold sores for a number of years and I have tried all sorts of remedies. My pharmacist suggested I try the Compeed patches and asked me to let him know my views. I have read the formulation on the compeed site so I accept that there isn't any medication within the patch so it is there to offer a barrier and to hide the outbreak. ...I often get cold sores in really cold weather and so I thought I would give these a try, since their advert showed lipstick being applied afterwards. Sods law dictated that I got two cold sores this time round so i thought I would only treat one to see just how well it worked. It was brilliant. Within a week the treated one had healed without cracking my lip when i bit into a chunk of a sandwich! The price to treat just one cold sore is per packet of 15 at £6.99, it may be a bit extreme but it is well worth the money. The outer packing does not tell you how to apply , or how long to treat the cold sore is required. That is all inside on the instruction leaflet, i must admit i was abit disappointed that there wasn't more patches.
