Phantom Menace - suffers from plot
Advantages: Introduction to characters
Disadvantages: Poor plot
...The Phantom Menace is a 1999 film written and directed by George Lucas. It is the first film in the prequel Star Wars trilogy, that tells the story of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and the Jedi council, before the events of the three original films.
The story follows the two Jedi's, Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), as they try to protect Queen Padme Amidala (Natalie Portman) of Naboo, from evil trade federation, who are being supported by a strange shadowy figure.
On their journey to Coruscant for political assistance from the republic, the Jedi's and Padme are forced to land on Tatooine, to make repairs on their spaceship. They end up meeting a slave boy who shares the same ability of the Jedi's in the magical force. They also have to face an evil warrior, Darth Maul, who also shares the ability in...

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
Advantages: John Williams still knows his Star Wars
Disadvantages: Not as original as you'd hope and the last film cue
...Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace was probably the most expected film of 1999. After filming episodes IV-VI between 1977 and 1983 there had been a growing demand for the earlier episodes as well. The story of how Anakin Skywalker bacame Darth Vader was one that intrigued many Star Wars fans as well as the history of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, and after waiting for almost 20 years, George Lucas finally finished the filming of the very first episode entitled The Phantom Menace. Here we finally meet Obi-Wan's teacher Qui-Gon, we are introduced to Anakin Skywalker as a young child, and the Star Wars universe is expanded by several new planets as well. However, despite state of the art CGI effects, fast-paced action and a strong story, The Phantom Menace suffered from the same Lucas deficiencies as did Return of the Jedi, namely overtly...

The Phantom Menace
Advantages: Nice boat...
Disadvantages: ...never mind the rowlocks
...The last time theediscerning was watching Russell Crowe in a big-screen, historical cinema epic, he was mostly muttering ?Well, this is all well and good, but it was bleddy obvious from the first frame he will be dying at the end?. With a series of twenty Patrick O?Brian novels to be adapted for this series, we are at least guaranteed the ending will be more satisfactory.
Or are we?
The beginning of the clumsily-named Master and Commander ? The Far Side of the World (it is a dash, not a colon, according to the BBFC certificate) is equally awkward, as it seems to be the lull before the storm that goes on for far too long. The storm that follows is a battle between Russell Crowe?s ship, the Surprise, and the Napoleonic splendour that is the Acheron. While the never-questioning, trusting crew nickname the French boat ?The Phantom...

O2 and the curse of the phantom menace
Advantages: All unless you cancel
Disadvantages: Trying to cancel a new contract
...of customer service telling us that they were glad we had chosen O2???..so I suspect he will be getting a letter soon.= about our phantom phones.
Some up what you will from this review, never oh never cancel a new phone order from them, if you dont agree with this then bear in mind the cost of all the calls we had to make to O2.
O2 seems to be OK if verything is working, may heaven help you if it isnt and you need o speak to them.

10 months in to the contract the network coverage appears to be as bad as the customer service. Thats not so good for a company that says they have 90%+ network coverage, thus my downgrade of my views on coverage and reception to Poor....

Menace to Society
Advantages: Read Opp
Disadvantages: none
...Well another day and another review, this one is actually on a film that I watched when I was a lot younger. Having an older brother who was always interested in rap and hip hop, we occasionally watched the odd gangster film here and their. This review is on the 1993 film Menace to Society, directed by Allen and Albert Hughes. Now I have many friends who hate these types of films, the argument being it's to violent, degrading, racists and just plain stupid. However, for me these films give a reel understanding of what it must be like on the streets of some of the toughest neighbourhoods in America. What the struggle for young kids is and how temptation can cost you everything.
Brief Info on the Directors:
The Hughes Brothers, both born on the 1st of April 1972 are twin brothers. They are well established directors, writers...

Eagerly anticipated: Jar Jar Who?
Advantages: It's Star Wars!
Disadvantages: Jar Jar Bin, some overly long scenes, some FX
...So, this is where it all begins! In 1999, twenty years after Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope was first released at the cinema amidst a wave of fanatical behaviour, followed by episodes V and VI, George Lucas' considerable enterprise starts off the prequel trilogy with Episode I: A Phantom Menace. The film was eagerly anticipated for so long, with die hard Star Wars fans queuing, sometimes for days, to be one of the first to get a glimpse of the new film. This was to set the scene for the following two films, and the episodes, all 6 of them, would tell a chronological tale. Phantom Menace was met with much excitement, and raving reviews. It also met with criticism, and there was disappointment amidst all the eagerness.
The Plot
A dispute between the Trade Federation and the Galactic Republic has led to a blockade on the planet...

The Menace to Star Wars. george Lucas turns to the Dark Side.
Advantages: Special FX
Disadvantages: Nothing else special about this.
...Oh dear oh dear oh dear. Never have I been more thoroughly dissapointed in all my life. I am an avid Star Wars fan but this episode just made me disillusioned with the whole thing. From the unconvincing performances of Darth Maul and Anakin Skywalker to the absolutley ridiculous and deliberatley annoying frog man with the big tongue (I even forgot his name I care so much), the Phantom Menace was a huge dissapointment. There were just so many flaws and inconsistencies it was unbelievable.
Ofcourse the special effects were wonderful. The pod racing scenes were partciularly thrilling but special effects is not what Star Wars is all about. If it was jsut FX, then it would be classified as another Deep Impact, Armageddon or Mission Impossible. Star Wars was meant to have a story line, a deeper meaning and a soul. George Lucas managed to...
