My Pride and Joy!

Advantages: Easy to use
Disadvantages: Care needed

...oven soon wore thin! But I know the oven must be clean to work efficiently and for health reasons, so clean it, I do. I have tried sprays, pastes, scouring with soap filled pad, you name it I've bought it and tried it. We had invested in a steam cleaner a couple of years ago, so one day I was using it in the bathroom and thought, I'll try the oven next. The dirt was beginning to slide off with the powerful steam, when BANG! The glass door broke into little glass balls. I had to buy a whole new door and glass panel to replace it, so decided the steam cleaner was banished! How to keep my oven clean? I had a couple of boxes of oven pride stored away in one of my cupboards that I had bought from my local Home Bargains for £2.99 a while ago so I decided it was time to give it a try and if there is one job I HATE and HATE with a passion, it is cleaning the oven but the box states "the effortless way to clean your oven and BBQ!" so an effortless way of cleaning it sounded fantastic. I opened the box and read the instructions simply put your racks in the bag, pour in the solution, wait, rinse off your racks, dispose of cleaning solution down the drain. How Pride and Prejudice grew on me

Advantages: Cleverly constructed, multi-layered, funny if you're used to the language
Disadvantages: Period language could be awkward to some

...Jane Austen - not exactly "forbidden fruit". Lady Chatterley - certainly. Moll Flanders - possibly. But Jane Austen? Starched cravats, tea parties and everybody calling each other "Miss Bennet" or "Mr. Gardiner" insteady of Lizzy or Edward? To my eleven-year-old self, absolutely! Costume dramas weren't really staple viewing at home when I was smaller - my parents watched Cracker instead - so I missed the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice serial and became quietly obsessed with reading the novel. I never studied Jane Austen at school (to my annoyance) but perhaps it's just as well - studying every little detail, identifying symbolism and deciding what role or stereotype each character represented might have ruined the book for me. Although "bright", I was too unfamiliar with period language at eleven to fully appreciate Pride and Prejudice...

The Pride of Auntie

Advantages: Good story with a classic loyalty/romance/disloyalty ring.
Disadvantages: Too much 'hype' surrounded this film, in the end it turned out to be quite disappointing.

...Pride is a specially made drama which was aired on BBC 1 on bank holiday Monday Christmas 2004. It follows the adventures of a pride of lions in the Serengeti. The actors are real lions but their 'voices' are given by famous actors like Robbie Coltrane and Kate Winslet. I first heard about this drama in the Radio Times. At first I was excited about it. After all, the BBC has always made dramas for television and a lot of them are quite good even though the actors in some of them are relatively unknown. From the main entrance of the Pride Park stadium you can still just see the floodlights of the now derelict former home ground, The Baseball Ground. Oven pride makes me oven proud

...Suffering from back and hip problems, cleaning the oven is a job I dread, until that is one day over a year ago, while looking through the Kleeneeze catalogue I found a product call ?Oven Pride?. I thought it was rather expensive, and I hadn?t seen it anywhere else, but as my oven needed cleaning badly I thought I would give it a go. It costs £9.99 at the time, for a 500ml bottle, which when it was delivered also contained a pair of rubber gloves and a big sealable plastic bag. After reading the bottle, I found the big bag was to clean the oven shelves with. All you do is pop the shelves and the hob rails into the bag, then add a few glugs of Oven Pride, seal the bag and work it around the bars of the racks, then leave it for a couple of hours to work.
