Gun Wharf Quays

Advantages: Very reasonable, close to the coast and ferries, situated in historic Portsmouth
Disadvantages: Cold in the winter, getting there is a nightmare, busy at weekends.

...I expect most of you have not even thought about Christmas 2006, however if you are like me, then you start thinking about buying pre-Yuletide gifts now. In that case then it might be worth your while to take a trip to Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth. Gunwharf Quays is a relatively new waterfront development between the Dockyard and Old Portsmouth, a haven for businesses, shopping, entertainment and restaurants. Very recently the Spinnaker Tower was finally completed and you can ride up to the top in its glass lift. Not for those who don't like heights believe me but the view is fantastic I have been told. The Spinnaker Tower is set to become a new icon, soaring 170 metres above the harbour of Portsmouth. The Spinnaker resembles a large sail and if you keep this into view whilst driving towards Gunwharf, you wont miss the car...

...I honestly love this place! The Gunwharf Quays outlet shopping centre is situated on Portsmouth Harbour. The site can be dated back to the 12th century where Gunwharf now stands. The 'Quay' place to shop!

Advantages: great variety of shops and eateries
Disadvantages: sports direct staff were very rude and unhelpful

...My girlfriend and I went to West Quay on the Saturday just gone and we had a great time. We went in search of a present for her mum and for some work trousers and shirts for me for work. There so are many shops at West Quay I won't bother listing all of them, i don't want to be accused of filling out my review nor do I want to bore you! I will mention the ones I personally experienced however. -------- Parking Firstly arriving at West Quay from the West was a little confusing and frustrating; at first the signs point to a car park by TGI Fridays but if you keep going you'll soon see a sign for 'Podium' parking which has a covered link to the shopping centre of West Quay. Advantages: In the middle of town, good atmopshere
Disadvantages: Can get very busy

...The Roman Quay pub in Dover is located about a minutes walk from the market square of Dover town. It is also only a 5 minute walk from Dover Priory train station and a minutes walk from the main bus station meaning it very easy to get to. Advantages: Attractive shopping area, Lots of Attractions (food, cinema, bowling, shops etc), designer clothes at reduced prices.
Disadvantages: The shops will not appeal to everyone, complex is not undercover.

Advantages: Premium outlets with discount prices.
Disadvantages: Only here in Portsmouth at the moment.

North Shields Fish Quay Festival (WOW)

Advantages: Lots to see and do; great party atmosphere

ROYAL QUAYS SHOPPING OUTLET

Advantages: Prices - lots of bargains to be had.
Disadvantages: Few empty shops

...Whilst I was staying on the outskirts of Newcastle I visited the Royal Quays Shopping Outlet several times and always managed to get a bargain or two. The outlet is in a nice area, easy to get to, well signposted, and good car parks. There is a very friendly tourist information office. I was however quite disappointed with the amount of shops unoccupied at that time (February 2002)and was quite glad I hadn't travelled too far. There are a couple of sets of toilets and three places to eat. The whole place was quite quiet during the week and there were no problems queuing for anything. The two larger shops there were Marks & Spencer and Nike. The Black & Decker shop had stuff at well below normal prices and if your 'join their club' you can get an extra 10% saving. The Remington shop sounds as though it should be...
