King of Queens

Advantages: Funny, good characters
Disadvantages: None

...King of Queens is an American sitcom set in New York. The King in question is Doug Heffernan and the Queens they relate to is actually the suburb of New York he lives in with his wife Carrie. I think this title is a really clever play on words and sets the scene for quite a funny sitcom in my opinion. Doug and Carrie are the main couple in this sitcom and it?s really them that the whole show revolves around. They have a nice relationship but bicker like most couples and they really play on each others stereotypes to get the laughs out of the audience. For example Doug is rather fat and so they definitely play this up on the show. He is generally always eating my Carrie facilitates this by buying him or making him his favourite foods. Doug is played by the very funny Kevin James who has been in movies such as Hitch, I Now Pronounce You...

Drama Queen!

Advantages: Superb script and acting, challenging your views, simply fantastic
Disadvantages: Some scenes are just speculative

...I was quite shocked to see that ITV were screening the Oscar winning movie "The Queen" already on Sunday night, so I knew I had to tune in to see what all the fuss was about. As you may or may not know, The Queen won lead actress Helen Mirren an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, a Screen Actors Guild Award and an Award at the Venice Film Festival for being the Best Actress, along many others both for Helen Mirren, and the film was a whole. It has been hugely successful, and because of this I was thoroughly looking forward to seeing what all the fuss was about! The film shows us the events from when Tony Blair was elected as Prime Minister in 1997, to the death of Princess Diana at the end of August 1997. It focuses on the backlash that came about against the Queen when she did not appear to speak publicly on the Princess' untimely death...

Queen of Harts

Advantages: The performances of the whole cast, subtle and powerful
Disadvantages: Perhaps a bit pro-royalist

...One of the most critically acclaimed and award-winning films of last year was Stephen Frears?s The Queen, starring the Oscar, Bafta and pretty much every other award-winning Helen Mirren as Elizabeth II. The film begins with the election of 1997, when Tony Blair (played here by Michael Sheen) became PM for the first time. We watch as he nervously conducts his first meeting with the queen, in which she has to formally ask him to become Prime Minister and all that official stuff. The film then moves forward to Sunday 31st August 1997, which everyone over a certain age will remember was the day when Princess Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed were killed in the Paris car crash. Saddened, but hardly grief-stricken, the Royal Family (Prince Phillip played by James Cromwell, the Queen Mother by Sylvia Sym and Prince Charles by Alex Jennings...

The Absolute Greatest Songs From Queen

Advantages: It's aimed more at newbies to Queen rather than die hard fans. It's still awesome though
Disadvantages: There's no point for diehard fans to get this, nothing new.

...I?m slightly cheating here for this review, no, unlike some reviews on this site, I have held the product in my hand and I have actually used it. I got the CD for one of my friends for Christmas, and before wrapping it up, I decided to sneakily put it on my ITunes. I am so glad I am now as this album has all of my favourites. I?m not going to write a lot of fact about Queen here, it?s a waste of time, if you want to know who Queen are and more about them, then check out Wiki for it. Sit back and I?m sure most of you can imagine each song as I write about them. Track Listing As there are 20 tracks on this album, I am going to be limiting how much I write for some of them. Please remember that the rates are in relevance to the rest of the album. When it comes to this album, I have found when I rate something 2/10, if it...

Queen of the Valley

Advantages: Interesting, very interesting!
Disadvantages: The most famous tomb is now closed.

...Day 1 in Egypt, site number 2 (and it is only 09:30), so let's do away with the babble and launch right in.... ~What's this place all about then?~ The Valley of the Queens is the burial site for the Queens & children of the Pharaohs of the 18th, 19th & 20th dynasties (1550 - 1070BC). It is said that there are about 70 (some claim as many as 85) different burial sites in the area. Probably the most famous tomb here is that of Queen Nefertari*, which is the largest and most spectacular in the valley. Unfortunately, this tomb is now no longer open, we were told by our guide that a couple of years ago there was some rain in the valley, which caused some damage to Nefertari's tomb. The Egyptian Government went about restoring the damage, and spent roughly a cool million on it. To recuperate the funds they opened the tomb, but...

Fit for the Queen!

Advantages: plot, characters, style
Disadvantages: /

...When faced with a new book to read, I never know what to do. I always seem to study the cover, even though I know I shouldn't.Thankfully though, the cover of 'The Queen of New Beginnings' is incredibly attractive. We can see a photo of a woman's figure, draped elegantly with a flowing red dress. She appears to be in a meadow, giving it a sort of tranquil look. It definitely is an inviting cover, one that is sure to attract your attention. After the design is explored, I always turn to the author next. This book was written by Erica James, an author I had not actually heard of before. Though a quick search online told me that she has quite a lot of books to her name and seems to be quite a popular writer. With that, I instantly conjured the impression that this was going to be a good read. But was I right? The book tells the story of two...

QUEEN

Advantages: An EXCELLENT musical experience
Disadvantages: NONE

...Queen's FIRST album and one of their best. There is only one song that I personally don't like, Keep Yourself Alive, just because I heard it too many times. Another person commented in their review that "My Fairy King" had strange "wailing" at the beginning of the song. I think that wailing is GREAT and is sort of a signature sound of the earlier Queen material. It makes the song unique!! They also featured Roger's screeching on "In the Lap of the Gods", "Ogre Battle", and "39". I wouldn't want to hear these songs without the famous high pitched Roger-isms. They're an integral part of the experience!! Brian May's guitar work/songwriting on this LP is sheer perfection along with Freddie's vocals, instrumentation and songwriting. Track List: 1) Keep Yourself Alive 2) Doing All Right 3) Great King Rat 4) My Fairy King...

HM (Helen Mirren) The Queen

Advantages: Superb performances from Helen Mirren and Michael Sheen
Disadvantages: The rest of the film not quite as good as it could have been

...After all the Oscar nominations for best costume, score, director, original screenplay and movie and Helen Mirrens's best actress winning performance as Queen Elizabeth II, I really wanted to see The Queen (2006) and having missed it at the cinema it was on our DVD rental list. But to my surprise ITV were showing the Stephen Frears directed film this evening to coincide with the 10th anniversary with the death of Princess Diana so I settled in to watch it. The film focuses on the events, reactions and responses of the Royal Family, the British public and government in the week from the death of Diana to her funeral in 1997. In brief the film starts with the election of the New Labour government and the new Prime Minister Tony Blair (wonderfully portrayed by Michael Sheen) and sets the scene early on of a nation which is changing...

Bandit Queen - the Most Shocking Bollywood Film Ever!

Advantages: Gritty storytelling
Disadvantages: Possibly excessive sexual violence

...Bandit Queen stars Seema Biswas, Nirmal Pandey, Manoj Bajpai, Govind Namdeo and Saurabh Shukla and was directed by Shekhar Kapur. . . PLOT SYNOPSIS Phoolan Devi was 11 years old when her poverty stricken father married her off to a man at least 18 years her senior who abused her physically and sexually until she ran away back to her family. Review of Bandit Queen (DVD)

Queen's debut is nothing compared to later albums.

Advantages: Good, groundbreaking music.
Disadvantages: Not at all like Queen's later material.

...Queen's self titled debut album was released in July '73 to a mixed reaction. Queen had become popular some years before on the live circuit, and many were anticipating a pulsing album with Queen at the top of their game, but as we all know this didn't come until the fourth album, A Night At The Opera. While the music was good, very good in fact, the record label was holding them back, telling them to do things differently. Many will point out the drum sound on the album, very tinny, you can barely make it out. While Roger Taylor wanted the drums to be loud and explosive, the record labels drum sound was "famous across the land" and so Queen were forced to go with the label. It would be a few albums later until Roger Finally got what he wanted. The albums front cover features Freddie Mercury standing under a beam of light...
