Jim Morris, the real-life hero of The Rookie, has an inspirational story all but guaranteed to put a smile on anyone's face. Blessed with an awesome fastball, Morris nursed dreams of pitching for Major League Baseball during his 20s; injuries and bad luck, however, forced him to give up hope and become a teacher and coach. Years later, pressed by students and colleagues to try out for "the Show" one more time, Morris discovered he still had a powerful arm, and he was signed by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The Rookie is at its best throughout this first chapter in Morris's mid-life adventure, though the rest of the film finds fresh angles on more familiar baseball-movie conventions. Dennis Quaid is soulful and charismatic as Morris, perfect in his depiction of a man both thankful and startled that destiny has given one of the good guys his due. --Tom Keogh ... less

Heartwarming story, it doesnt use standard cliches
Advantages: Great Baseball movie about following your dreams
Disadvantages: Tad slow-moving in the middle where younger kids may squirm
...Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot. I dont like to give to much away though.
I'm a baseball fan. And as a baseball fan -- the movie works. It's a movie that you can bring your kinds too (it's G rated) but it's more intelligent than Major League. It's a heartwarming story -- one things immediately to Robert Redford's "The Natural", but it is not as cliched. What pulled me in was the fact that the movie was based on a true story.
The Rookie is based on Jim Morris who at the age of 38 quit his job as a teacher and high school coach to join the minor leagues. He eventually achieved his dream to become a Major League pitcher. Shades of Rudy and Kurt Warner.
The first scene of the movie was innovative storytelling-- I won't spoil the surprise -- but it sets up the entire story very well. The film...

Scruffy, overweight reporter and cute rookie blogger, dig deep
Advantages: Well acted, good cinematography, good political thriller
Disadvantages: Convoluted plot, pacing not right and the conclusion a bit dissapointing
...big in this film and his hair is a bit of a mess as well. He looks a total sleaze ball but loveable. You could also say that this is a stereotypical role - the scraggy looking reporter who discovers a political cover-up. Still - stereotype or not - he plays it well.
Ben Affleck - another stereotypical role - the good looking, well connected politician who puts a damper on his career because of an illicit affair. How many times have we seen that? Excellent acting fom him too.
Helen Mirren - I think she just plays her usual self - grouchy and dominant. Nothing new here. I don't actually rate this lady although she was good in The Queen - well she looked like her at least. Her performance in State of Play is good but not outstanding.
Rachel McAdams is good as the cute looking rookie, looking for a career break and Robin Wright Penn is...

The greatest rookie lawyer game of all time!
Advantages: Innovative, stimulating, humourous, great characters, awesome audio, very enjoyable
Disadvantages: Too easy to win cases, not always much to do
...'Phoenix Wright: Ace Attourney' is a remake of the 2001 Game Boy Advance game 'Gyakuten Saiban' (Turnabout Courtroom), which was never released out of Japan, and follows the progress of rookie defense lawyer Phoenix 'Nick' Wright. The sequel, 'Phoenix Wright: Ace Attourney - Justice For All' is to be released in early 2007.
The basic gameplay involves three tasks: searching for evidence, talking characters, and defending your client in the courtroom. Searching for evidence makes good use of the touch screen technology of the DS, as you can use the stylus to examine your current setting. However, it is usually fairly obvious where you should be searching.
Talking to characters is a good way of advancing the storyline, and as the dialogue is fantastic, it is an enjoyable part of the game. However, there is hardly ever any true...
