The Waiting Room [DVD]

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 5.1 ), English ( Subtitles ), ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN (1.85:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Anamorphic Widescreen, Commentary, Deleted Scenes, Documentary, Interactive Menu, Music Video, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: Two strangers find their chance meeting in a South London train station suddenly bringing together two entirely separate groups of friends, colleagues, lovers, and acquaintances in director Roger Goldby's tale of intersecting lives. Anna (Anne-Marie Duff) and Stephen (Rolf Little) were sitting in a deserted train platform when kindly senior citizen Roger (Frank Finlay) engaged them in conversation while eagerly awaiting the arrival of his beloved wife. As they listen to Roger fondly reminiscing about all of the things that he and his wife did when they were younger, Anna and Stephen realize that they have made a real connection and, if only for a moment, allow their individual lives to slip out of focus. Having recently separated from Toby (Adrian Bower), single mother Anna is now faced with the task of bringing up her young daughter Charlie all by herself. Anna's neighbors are married young parents Jem (Zoe Telford) and George (Rupert Graves). While Jem and Anna are close friends who share all of their secrets, the one thing that Anna hasn't let out is the fact that she has entered into a troublesome affair with George. Stephen, on the other hand, has recently moved in with Fiona (Christine Bottomly), who is so eager to start a family that even her parents are pressuring she and Stephen to get pregnant. But the more intense the pressure gets, the less certain Stephen becomes that he is prepared for such a commitment. It seems like the only peace Stephen can find these days is in his work at a local old folk's home and his friendship with understanding resident Helen (Phyllida Law). Later, af...The Waiting Room... less

'The dead are our neighbours everywhere on the island, and you have to get used to it'. It is bitter mid-winter on the Swedish island of Oland, and Katrine and Joakim Westin have moved with their children to the boarded-up manor house at Eel Point. But their remote idyll is soon shattered when Katrine is found drowned off the rocks nearby. As Joakim struggles to keep his sanity in the wake of the tragedy, the old house begins to exert a strange hold over him. Joakim has never been in the least superstitious, but from where are those whispering noises coming? To whom does his daughter call out in the night? And why is the barn door for ever ajar? As the end of the year approaches, and the infamous winter storm moves in across Oland, Joakim begins to fear that the most spine-chilling story he's heard about Eel Point might indeed be true: that every Christmas the dead return... ... less

Hotel Kunlun-one of the best hotels in Beijing
Advantages: convenient location, good service and delicious food.
Disadvantages: Expensive.
...If you lived in Beijing and you said you don't know Hotel Kunlun people would think you were joking. I have lived in Beijing for over 11 years and visited the hotel many times for business meetings and leisure. Personally I think it's one of the best hotels in Beijing.
Location
The Hotel Kunlun is situated just inside the Third Ring Road of Beijing, which is the main traffic link between...

Best Hotel in Beijing
Advantages: Raffles! Friendly staff, immaculate rooms
Disadvantages: Expensive bowling alley
.... The only downside being that you have to wear a swimming hat in the pool - but they sold me a very fetching pink one to wear for £4.
The hotel also has bars, tea rooms and a bowling alley (which is admitedly expensive but a hotel has to have some downsides!!!)
If you are lucky enough to be in Beijing in the winter and you can get a good deal on this hotel - try Expedia or Travelocity I would fully...

An Elephant in the Room at Hotel Slon
Advantages: Location; well maintained, comfortable rooms
Disadvantages: Shower floods bathroom; slippy rugs; issues with breakfast
...(which you can buy as a souvenir or gift).
Our check in experience was entertaining as we engaged in a spot of jousting with the receptionist who wanted to swipe our credit card in case of extras. He maintained that this was essential and said he could not give us our room unless we passed over the card. This is a hotel practice I despise and I held my ground: weary from debating the issue...
