...The Shining is a 1980 horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick which is based a Stephen King novel of the same name. It stars Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall and Danny Lloyd. Jack Torrence (Nicholson) is a writer who accepts the job as a caretaker of the Overlook Hotel, which always gets snowed in during the winter, and so becomes completely isolated. He is warned that the last caretaker got cabin fever and killed his family and himself, but Jack just wants some peace and quiet in order to write. So he takes his wife Wendy (Duvall) and his son Danny (Lloyd) up to the hotel on the closing day, where they meet the elderly cook, Dick Halloran (Scatman Crothers). He surprises Danny by talking with him telepathically and asking him if he wants an ice cream. When alone, he explains that he and his grandmother shared this incredible gift...

Shine On

Advantages: Stephen King's claim to fame ; Superb atmosphere ; Sublime plot ; A vivid imagination that stretches all supernatural boundaries ; Probably responsible for some of the best horror films of the 70's and 80's
Disadvantages: Some unessesary background in the first half ; Kubrik mucked up the story too much ; Could have been much more

...Being thoroughly refreshed and cheerful following my Misery conquest, an adrenaline rush urged me to stick my nose into yet another King classic, The Shining. Of course, generally when you've seen a certain Jack Nicholson film more times than you care to remember, you start to wonder, why bother? But then you hear how Stanley Kubrick practically threw Stephen King's novel into the fire after a quick skim read and went about making his own super version, makes you pretty inclined to read the novel that made King the bestseller he is today. Initially I was apprehensive about starting the book as I'd heard some negativity surrounding the content of the first few hundred pages. I honestly wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. Her Time To Shine

Advantages: Lots of big tunes
Disadvantages: A few weka tunes

A shining example of a stonking good film

Disadvantages: Not a single one in my opinion

Based on the novel by Stephen King and directed by Stanley Kubrick, it was made back in 1980, and yet for me and many others, remains a film that has stood the test of time. It is my all-time favourite film and has been for some time - it is one of the few films that I can watch over and over again, and yet I never get bored of, despite knowing precisely how it is going to end. For me, it has everything that I want in a film - great acting and visuals, a creepy atmosphere with a bit of supernatural thrown in, a bit of gore, beautiful visuals and wonderfully appropriate music. The main draw to this phone is the sleek, elegant design - the slider being one of the best and most durable available on any phone. It has all the normal whistles and bells, such as the bluetooth, camera, and media player. One thing to note with regards to the bluetooth connectivity is the added security inbuilt in the phone - making it nigh on impossible for "snarfers" to hack into. ...I don't normally wear a lot of lipstick so when I saw this written about about a year ago in a magazine, I thought, wow, that's a great idea, a bit of colour, lots of moisture. I bought my first tube for 99p at Superdrug and was very pleased with it. It is like a grown-ups Lipsmackers and it even has a nice sweet taste for those lip-licking moments. The first tube I bought was just a pink tube with now shimmer however it did tint my lips nicely with a nice shade of rose. The second tube I bought was indeed the 'Pearl and Shine' colour and it was lovely. I used it everyday for about a month before it ran out and although the first time I used it I walked around all day looking like a metallic freak, I soon got the appropriate usage amount under control and had a nice pearly sheen to my kissers. The shine and colour deepen as you apply more coats, but I think 3 is probably the maximum you would want to apply as more than that doesn't actually seem to enhance the effect at all, so you're really just wasting product. ~~The feel~~ After application I can feel the product on my lips. They feel a bit wet and ever so slightly sticky. It doesn't appear to dry out my lips at all, but I'm not convinced it's made them any softer. The gloss doesn't seem to dry as ten minutes later I can still feel wetness on my lips, and when I touch my lips a bit comes off my on my fingers.
