SIGN, THANK GOD FOR SILENCE
Review of Thank God For Silence - Sign by  Red-blood-Black-heart

Advantages: some great rock songs
Disadvantages: very hard to find in shops

...are Zolberg on guitar and vocals, eagle on drums, Heimir on bass and A.D on guitar. There record label is r og r musik and there type of label is Indie. They have 2 albums which are based is Iceland and they have another that is in English called thank god for the silence. The album is very unique as well as Zolburgs fantastic unique voice. His voice is fantastic and is probably my most favourite vocalist ever. THE ALBUM THANK GOD FOR SILENCE: This album was realised this year and it went to number 12 in the Icelandic charts. Whilst preparing for this album the band god to work with new York producer Mark Plati on 3 of there tracks. THE SONGS ON THE ALBUM: 1. LIFT ME UP: The first song of Signs album it starts with guitaring in just one ear building up for the second guitar to come in and the bass and drums and finally Zolburg... Read review

Songs of Silence - Without it I could not live
Review of Songs Of Silence (Live In Tokyo) - Sonata Arctica by  klelvin

Advantages: Just brilliant 100%
Disadvantages: They have too many great songs to fit all of them on one album.

..." Without it, I would not live.............Silence" Definately one of the most fun live albums to listen to! There are a few live sonata songs floating around on some of the other Cd's which are not great performance wise, there are some dodgy guitar solos and some out of time tracks, however this album is just spot on. The band have definately proved that they are a force to be reckoned with for live performances. If only I could be so lucky to see one but they barely tour the UK. This album is filled with some great choices for a live album. Starting with the chilling tones and voiceover of the intro: "Well well, how are you" taken straight from "the end of this chapter" but even more scary than it is on the track. Kicking into "Web allergy" which is a spot on performance just as good as the studio version... Read review

The silence of the lambs
Review of The Silence of the Lambs - Thomas Harris by  ameliajayne

Advantages: A fantatsic read, with lots of twists, gives a look into the rookie world of the FBI
Disadvantages: A rather gory tale

...Thomas Harris is proving to be an excellent writer, silence of the lambs was the first book by Thomas Harris that I read. Silence of the lambs tells the story of a young fbi agent who is assigned the case of catching a serial killer. The killer (who is nicknamed buffalo bill) is abducting plumpish women, keeping them in a pit for a while, then killing them and skinning them, for the purpose of making himself into a woman by sewing skin from different victims together. Starling the agent goes to visit Hannibal the cannibal for a profile of the killer, hannibal sees the young agent as a way for him to escape, so he does a deal and gives the profile. The events are dramatic and the story line never loses it`s edge, hannibal gets what he wants and is transported, during which he gets the opportunity to escape. The hunt for Buffalo... Read review

The silence is finally broken
Review of Silence Of The Lambs DVD by  utero

Advantages: still a great film, presentation, extras
Disadvantages: misses the criterion commentary

...Silence of the Lambs has previously only been available in the USA in either a no frills affair or a very good criterion edition. However both releases never offered a decent transfer and sound quality. However now MGM have the rights and they've set about releasing a special edition of the film. I'm sure everyone is familiar with the the story. Young FBI trainee agent Clarice Starling is sent to interview a chilling cannibal serial killer Hannibal Lecter. Only he may have the information needed to track down an at large serial killer by the name of Buffalo Bill who is abducting young women and skinning their bodies. The film sees Lecter get beneath the skin of Clarice by simple conversation but also shows a side to a man who is completely chilling but highly intelligent. At first I thought this film was slightly over... Read review

Silence is deadly
Review of Dead Silence DVD by  bamamo

Advantages: Quite original storyline, pretty entertaining
Disadvantages: Not scary at all

...If you've read any of my other recent reviews, you might have noticed that I've been watching a lot of crappy horror movies lately. Dead Silence is the latest of those. Upon watching it all I was expecting was a film about ventriloquist's dummies, which let's face it, are pretty creepy. It's been ages since a film has actually delivered something to scare me, so there was definite potential. At the start of the film Jamie (Ryan Kwanten - Home & Away, Flicka), receives a mysterious package containing the spooky puppet, with no note explaining who it was from. His wife Ella (Amber Valletta - Hitch, What Lies Beneath), joked around with the doll and started reciting a poem from when they were kids (growing up in the same small town) about an old lady named Mary Shaw who had no children, only dolls. Jamie then goes to get a takeaway... Read review

IS SILENCE GOLDEN?
Review of S is for Silence - Sue Grafton by  Louizalass

Advantages: A good detective story
Disadvantages: A little confusing at times

...Well, here we are at 'S', the nineteenth book in Sue Grafton's ABC series featuring Kinsey Millhone, the female Californian private investigator. ◊ A brief synopsis: Daisy Sullivan is only 7-years-old when her young, glamorous and flirtatious mother, Violet, disappears without trace from their small town in California. Thirty-four years later, having borne salacious rumours and whispering about her missing mother and the possible reason for her disappearance, the grown-up Daisy wants the solace of closure and hires Kinsey to find out, once and for all, why her mother appeared to have up and left her without a backward glance. ◊ Would I recommend S is for Silence? Yes, if you enjoy a 'traditional' detective story. In this case, 'S' is for 'simple', although by no means a cinch when it comes to guessing... Read review

Arctic Cooling Silencer 64 Ultra TC
Review of Arctic Cooling Silencer 64 Ultra TC by  kevinwj

Advantages: Cheap, Effective, Lightweight.
Disadvantages: No manual speed control, Size could be a problem on some boards.

...I recently upgraded my CPU to a retail version AMD 64, that comes with the standard cooler and fan. I found it to be very noisy and decided I needed a quieter CPU cooler. After looking at various options, and not having lots to spend, I decided on the Arctic Cooling Silencer 64 Ultra TC that retails at under £10.00. This heatsink is suitable for socket 754/939/940 AMD Athlon CPU's, BUT is 15mm wider than the standard heatsink, so make sure there is room on your motherboard before ordering one. The box that the it comes in also contains a motherboard retention module, a tube of Artic cooling MX-1 High performance thermal compound, a case sticker and a small sheet of notes, that is printed in English and German. The fitting instructions are printed on the back of the box. The cooler. The heatsink itself is made of aluminum... Read review

McQueen - Break The Silence
Review of Break The Silence - McQueen by  sinafter

Advantages: Every beat in every bar has a reason for being there.
Disadvantages: The mix seems to lack a bit of bottom end.

...Break The Silence is the debut album from Brighton based McQueen. The album was produced by UK based Richie Kayvan and mixed by Kayvan and Queens Of The Stone Age/Tool producer Joe Barresi . The ten songs are short and sharp, aggressive tunes that attract punk and metal fans (no ballads here) but with enough melody and hooks to have wider appeal without sounding contrived. The tracks I did not take to straight away grew on me over time and I have found the CD more enjoyable with repeated listening. The shortness of the album also leaves me wanting more, which is never a bad thing. McQueen are impressing all the right people. This year A&R guru Tom Zutaut joined their management team, Slash invited them to tour with Velvet Revolver and they have been making guest appearances with a host of stars since relocating to Los Angeles to work... Lets break the silence
Review of Wall of Silence by  AimeeLouise18

Advantages: raises awareness of crimes such as this one
Disadvantages: some people might find it too disturbing to watch.

...I don’t know how many of you were tuned into ITV this Monday (12th January) for the drama Premiere ‘Wall of Silence’ but for those of you who were I’m sure you were filled with the same disgust, hatred and distress that I felt while watching it. I think the most disturbing thing for me was the fact that it actually happened and what’s more it happened on the day of my birthday. Now for those of you who are wondering what I am rambling on about I’m talking about the story of a boy called Jamie Robe. Jamie was an ordinary seventeen-year-old boy who did what any normal teenager would do. He lived with his mother, his brothers and his sister and spent some time with his father fishing. He didn’t drink until one night when he rebelled and drank a bottle of scotch. That night his life was ended... Read review

The Long Silence of Mario Salviati
Review of The Long Silence of Mario Salviati - Etienne Van Heerden by  brereton66

Advantages: A far reaching work of magical reality
Disadvantages: Doesn't quite reach it's ambitions

...The Long Silence of Mario Salviati by Etienne Van Heerden tells the story of Ingi Friedlander, a curator at the National Gallery at Cape Town, and her journey to the impossibly remote village of Yearsonend. She is under orders to purchase the magnificent sculpture of the Staggering Merman which has magically appeared in the studio of local artist, Jonty Jack. After initially being rejected by the sculptor Ingi takes lodging in the village and settles down for a long drawn out courtship with Jack in the hope that by getting to know him and the town better, he will in turn be more receptive to her and allow her to return to Cape Town with the sculpture. As Ingi settles into life in the small town she gradually works her way into various people's confidences and in turn learns more about the characters and history of the town. Ingi... Read review
