Reviews of the sundays
A Braw Read, On A Sunday, Every Sunday!
Review of Sunday Post by
scotlandizdabest
Advantages: A real scottish newspaper with all the trimmings!
Disadvantages: No in-depth international issue stories
...**What Is It?**
The Sunday Post is a national, Scottish tabloid newspaper which is avalible every Sunday. Even though it is a Scottish newspaper it can be bought from the north of england newsagents.
**History Behind It?**
The Sunday Post was established by D. C. Thomson & Co. Ltd who famously founded huge scottish newspapers and comics like the Beano, Dandy, Jackie, Shout, Evening Telegraph and the Courier which are all house hold names. The Sunday Post was founded in 1914 and has been going very strong since. Unlike a lot of newspapers of the era, it concentrated on more local news rather than national. In total it has 52 issues a year and has been for 93 years so that is a staggering 4,836 issues altoghether. Not bad ay.
**Editor**
The editor is David Pollington. He has been editor since 2001 and before that was deputy...

The Sunday Crimes
Review of Sunday Times [TV Advertisement] by
kfingleton
Advantages: Weighty, wide variety of sections, quality of writers
Disadvantages: Right-wing, unionist, owned by Murdock
...Since learning to read I have read the Sunday Times every week. My father has bought it every Sunday, almost religiously, even before I came on the scene, so I had little choice. But now I’m a student, away from home and still buying it for myself.
At this point I would like to point out that I completely disagree with the politics of The Sunday Times. I believe Rupert Murdock to be almost as big and evil a megalomaniac as the villain based on him in the Bond movie "Tomorrow Never Dies". But I watch films made by Fox Studios, I watch the Simpsons, X-Files and Sky Sports, so to not buy The Sunday Time sin protest would be very hypocritical.
The Sunday Times is a very big paper. Along with the conventional main section seen every day of the week is a wealth of other sections. For £1 it represents very good value. If I...

Sunday People
Review of Sunday People by
andrew1971
Advantages: Pull out sports section
Disadvantages: TV listing in magazine
...Not sure if it is a first for a newspaper, but a definite first in a tabloid newspaper. A pull out sports section. So the lady in the house can read the gossip (a lot in the Sunday People) and the male can read the sports section. ( or vice versa). There does seem to be a lot of gossip pages in the newspaper, although isn't that what Sunday papers are about?
The Sunday People also has an excellent section on gardening and animal welfare, for which the RSPCA have commended the paper for doing. Also included in the newspaper are the typical TV reviews written by Gary Bushell (love him or hate him) an Agony aunt page which I would put has being between News of the World and The Sunday Mirror.
Richard Bacon is the resident film critic. His reveiws seem to be more about his experience on a subject than the fim itself.
The free magazine...

No Post on Sundays
Review of Sunday Post by
bigkenny
Advantages: Oor Wullie and The Broons
Disadvantages: Everything other than Oor Wullie and The Broons
...In my house we do not get Post on a Sunday and quite frankly this includes the Sunday Post. It might be as Scottish as Haggis but so is Jimmy Somerville and no one can claim that he is any good.
To be honest there are a couple of things I like about the Sunday Post....Oor Wullie and The Broons. Yup two comic strips that are more news worthy than the rest of the paper. What else would you expect from D.C. Thomson the publishers of such high brow material as the Beano and the Dandy?
I was once told that the Sunday Post officially had the highest circulation in the world per head of population. I was also told by the same person that the paper also had (officially they insisted but as to who these officials were they could not say) the least amount of news per page than any other newspaper in the world.
I do not know if the above...

Have you got time for the Sunday Times
Review of Sunday Times [TV Advertisement] by
Lynda04
Advantages: A lot of paper for the money
Disadvantages: It is big!
...I am not a regular reader of the Sunday papers, but lately I have taken to purchasing The Sunday Times. The price is currently £1.10 and what good value this newspaper is, in fact I tend to read it over a few days, as there is so much to take in!
What do you get for your money? You get a newspaper, which tries to give the facts behind the latest news stories, also a wide range of articles, which because of their variety would probably appeal to everyone in the family. Whatever it’s political leaning, it is worth a read for the quality of the writing.
Here is a list of what’s included in the Sunday edition: - Each heading has it’s own separate paper -
THE SUNDAY TIMES – The newspaper proper, political news from home and abroad, also articles from the world of science – medicine – education...

Blackbushe Sunday Market
Review of Blackbushe Sunday Market, Hampshire by
ailuj34
Advantages: Bargains
Disadvantages: You Only Get What You Pay For......
.../\/\/\ Blackbushe Sunday market /\/\/\
* Cost: 50p per ticket which lasts for the month issued. This admits two adults and children are free. Parking is also free. Car park is massive so you will get a parking space.
* Open: Every Sunday from 9.00am - 2.30pm.
* At: This large, popular market is situated next to Blackbushe Airport on the A30 between Yateley and Hartley Wintney in Hampshire.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blackbushe Sunday Market attracts coach loads for people from all across England every Sunday of the year. The only time the market is not open is if Christmas Day and New Years Day fall on a Sunday. Even in bad weather, the market stalls are there - though if the weather is really bad there may not be as many stalls as usual...

Witness Bloody Sunday for Yourself
Review of Bloody Sunday (Wide Screen) by
TheChocolateLady
Advantages: Human, Personal, Realistic
Disadvantages: May be a bit too graphic, not easy movie to watch.
..."On 30th January 1972, British Soldiers shot dead 13 unarmed civilians taking part in an anti-internment civil rights march in Derry, Northern Ireland. This event became known as Bloody Sunday and was a major turning point in the history of the modern Irish troubles, catapulting the conflict into a civil war, driving many young men into the IRA and fueling a 25 year cycle of violence. ... this film starring James Nesbitt and directed by Paul Greengrass tells the story of Bloody Sunday in just one day from dawn till dusk."
One needs nothing more than this short blurb from the poster (video or DVD box) to tell you the essence of the plot of this movie. Therefore, I would think it superfluous of me to add anything more than that this is not a direct documentary, but rather a dramatization of the events of that fateful day.

Calvin and Hobbes... the Sunday Strips
Review of Calvin and Hobbes' Lazy Sunday Book - Bill Watterson by
thebluehippo
Advantages: It's Calvin and Hobbes
Disadvantages: Just Sunday Strips
...First published in the UK in 1990, we have a collection of Calvin and Hobbes Sunday strips.
For those of you unfamiliar with Calvin and Hobbes it's a comic strip that was created by Bill Watterson and has been syndicated in newspapers for over ten years and still to this day the old strips are reprinted.
The story tells us of Calvin a rather imaginative, intelligent and yet quite troublesome boy and his pet tiger Hobbes. What you soon learn when you start reading the strips is that Hobbes can only be seen by Calvin, where everyone else sees him as a stuffed toy tiger. Now whether Hobbes is just a part of Calvin's imagination or whether he only comes to life when Calvin is there is a much talked about issue and many people have written long articles explaining there theory.
To have people do such a thing in the first place over...

Very informative Sunday finance.
Review of Financial Mail on Sunday by
wiseoldowl
Advantages: Light, easy reading, very informative, good share tips.
Disadvantages: none
...Although I do not rate the Mail On Sunday as the best overall Sunday newspaper, I buy it mainly for its excellent Finance supplement.
Very informative articles on a wide range of financial subjects, are complemented by reviews of the Stock Market in the past week, major share price movers, and tabulations of the next weeks list of companies reporting. The Midas column usually tips up to 4 companies each week. I have systematically logged the share tips of all the Sunday papers (listed on Teletext channel 4, each Sunday afternoon), and have concluded that the Midas tips are consistently amongst the best!
For the small investor, wanting to know what is going on, I find the easy reading style of the Finance supplement to be of great value. Even my offspring have developed an interest in investing on the stock market mainly through...

Taking Back Sunday still as good as ever
Review of Louder Now - Taking Back Sunday by
jazziestjeff
Advantages: Great guitar work and lyrica
Disadvantages: Poor word layout in booklet
...Taking Back Sunday's two previous albums, although varying in style and line-up, had blown me away and I was hoping their new album, 'Louder Now', would do the same. I was not to be disappointed.
The album opens in classic style in the fashion of 'What's It Feel Like To Be A Ghost' and the unmistakeble sound of TBS; just a lead guitar riff giving a perfect hit line for the rest of the song. The song then breaks into full instrumental with a | | |
