...Edinburgh is one of those cities near enough for us to visit for a weekend, and with enough attractions and shops to keep us all busy. So, we tend to go a couple of times a year. I usually book online, and because I don?t know the city well, it?s usually a bit of a feat finding the hotel. Last time we went, our hotel was very difficult to find, and because it was at the opposite side of the city to ?our side? (Newcastle side), we had to negotiate the city centre- not good for anyone who doesn?t know the city. This hotel, by contrast, was incredibly easy to find. Armed with my route finder directions, we set off, and it seemed that no sooner had we entered the city than we were there. Bring back the Terraces

Advantages: better atmosphere
Disadvantages: depends on the crowd control

...The prices of seats at a game are extortionate and the atmosphere is being totally lost. I say bring back the terraces. We are not hooligans or thugs. We want to stand and sing and watch our team standing up. The hillsbourough disaster wasnt about standing up or sitting down. It was about police incompetance leading to a cover up. Football is so popular nowadays a huge terrace and grounds could host a crowd or 70 or 80 thousand. and prices would certainly go down to about £10 so the clubs would still make the money. Man Utd requested it last season, but its time they listened and the good old days would return....

Review of Terracing

A return to terracing?

Advantages: Atmosphere, freedom, enjoyment, safer
Disadvantages: None whatsoever

...I hate sitting at football. There, I've said it. I really do. Sitting ruins the whole experience for me, in fact. As a partisan supporter of Hull City, a decidely poor team in Division Three, I get to stand on a huge, full terrace for home games, and more often than not, on terraces at away games. The consquence? A stirring, booming atmosphere you simply cannot find at all-seated stadiums. Sitting inhibits the singing fans. To sing, you need to be upright to manufacture maximum volume. Sitting means you can't do that. With seats, you end up split from friends, you have to sit where you're told, not in a group, free to wander the terrace and meet people. Terracing is thought to increase the risk of injury. That is not true. In all my time of standing, I've never been hurt once, yet I've been injured twice in seated stands...

Review of Terracing

Good service on Royal Terrace

Advantages: Excellent location, good service, relatively cheap

...An old friend recently got married in Edinburgh, and as we live in London, at least an overnight stay was on the books. In the end, we decided to stay for a few days, and while looking out for a cheapish hotel to stay in, I came across this one and was so impressed by the courteous way with which I was treated when I rang to enquire about a room that I booked it on the spot. Location This could not have been better. The hotel is situated on Royal Terrace (which is exactly as it sounds ? a terrace fit for royalty), which is on Calton Hill and just ten minutes walk away from the Royal Mile. It is also very close to Waverley Station, St James Bus Station and Holyrood Palace. The Strand Palace Hotel

...We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too. Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly. My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern. I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower. The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close. The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated...

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

After a few enquiries it became clear you couldn't get a hotel in Brighton for 1 night over the weekend and due to work commitments it just wasn't possible to stay for 2 nights so we decided to opt to stay in Eastbourne for the night and travel back to Brighton for the day. Pool and terrace Pool and terrace are on the eighth floor and there are some great views of the city from here. The pool is shallow but still great for cooling off after a day sight seeing. There are various chairs and loungers and you can order drinks from up here. Price I booked online and for five nights including breakfast it cost me £500 for this hotel. I booked last minute just two days before we went. My Opinion Overall I would highly recommend this hotel it is in a great location in a quiet area of Barcelona but not too far to walk to Las Ramblas and other places. ...When we decided to make a return trip to Benalmedina we opted to go to the four star Hotel Las Arenas as it was recommended by friends. It is slightly further out just opposite the Castle Bill Bill and when you cross the road it?s a flat walk all the way to the marina which is away from the large hills on which many of the other hotels are located. Reception On arrival check in was swift and at this time we opted to pay for a safety deposit box we were then handed the safe key and card key to room 524 and pointed in the direction of the lifts. On looking round reception it was laid out with tables and chairs and also had a grand piano, a small bar ,toilets and computers with internet access.
