...The Wake Up Hostel had been recommended to me by my friends at Gap Year.com. I booked my bed well in advance as I was spending my 2 weeks in Sydney over Christmas and New Year. I have to say I was very pleased with the price over this festive period as a lot of other hostels and accommodation decided to bump up prices and take advantage of the stranded unorganised backpackers. PRICES: 10 bed dorm $28 a night, 8 bed dorm $30 a night, 6 bed dorm $34 a night and 4 bed dorm $36 a night. ROOMS: I have to say my first impressions where not great, I walked into the room and gasped! Not an inch of floor space could be seen, I didn't even have room to put my bag down. Advantages: First half is a surprisingly good ending.

Advantages: Lovely smell, amazingly cheap, lathers well

...I love original source products, but they’re not exactly cheap, so I’m always looking for less expensive alternatives. Tesco Wake Up Shower gel is one of the products that I would say fits this bill. A bottle of the gel is currently sitting in my bathroom next to some Fenjal shower oil (see previous op if you give a whatever) and the two products couldn’t be more different, although I do like them both. First off, the packaging. Fenjal is classy. Minimalist. Tesco’s is brash and in your face. The bottle is about 20 cm high and made of clear plastic, although you don’t really realize this until you’ve used a bit and the level starts to go down. Disadvantages: Doesn't have freephone number, electronic card access for everything, checking in takes ages, no free breakfast

...As I found after a previous bad experience, and talking to several other travellers while in Australia, good hostels are hard to come by in Sydney. The first hostel I stayed in I found to be cold, inhospitable and overpriced for what they (didn't) provide. On talking to other people, I found that though there were cheaper hostels available, they may be bed bug ridden, decrepit, uncomfortable, overcrowded, unfriendly, or too inconveniently located. So I was pleased to discover Wake up! Sydney on my next return to the city... it's a bright, buzzy and ultra modern hostel, which only opened in April 2002 so you can be assured none of the mattresses are sagging yet! And is located just opposite the main train station in Sydney, meaning it's convenient for all the sights in the city centre, as well as for getting out to the suburbs... Read review

Disadvantages: Noisy, cramped, no aircon, noise noise noise!

...Through no fault of my own, I was forced to find a hotel for one night last week - well I could have gone home, but I knew that all that was waiting for me was a bloody great row with my mum, so I thought I'd rather spend the night somewhere else. I surfed around on the net to see what was the cheapest available, and managed to find the website for this youth hostel called Wake Up! London, which boasted prices of as little as £18 per person per night. Plus it was the only one which would allow me to book a room for the same night, other hotels would only let me book at least a day in advance or pay a hefty premium. The website has lots of pictures of people looking really happy, and nice clean, modern looking rooms. My opinion on this later.
