...Saving Private Ryan is an extremely good film that is very factual and informative about life during the war. Tom Hanks stars as a captain of a team who landed on the D day landings and are in search for a Private Ryan who has to be found and brought home after all of his brothers had been killed during previous battles in the war. This film is very in depth and detailed into life during the war for normal people who may have been presented with having to go into battle in the war. This film contains all the triumphs, and obviously the tragic side of war and concentrates on life in the second world war. This film will make you feel very proud of the people who served for you during the war and the characters are superb in portraying the way they worked during the war. ...If I could go back in history and could change anything I wanted it would have to be war. In particular World War two. Although any war is awful and there is so much suffering and loss, I think the history of World War II has made me feel the worst. I watched the diary of Anne Frank on television a couple of days ago and it made me cry throughout. The way that the Jews were herded,branded and basically treated like animals. Actually I think animals were treated better. They were starved, tortured, robbed of all their possessions, they didn't even have basic humanitarian supplies. People should not be made to feel scared for life by another human being. Also the film of Schindlers List shows you how awful this war was. The Jews were treated so badly and Hitler tried to rid the world of them during the second world war. Films... Read review

...Before World War II the Greek island of Cephallonia had existed as a peaceful collection of fishing villages. On the island was a very respected doctor who had a beautiful, strong-willed daughter. She becomes engaged to a young man and everything seems to be working out towards a happy, peaceful life. Then the war starts and the fiance goes off to fight for his king and country. The Italians come and occupy the island. They are a bumbling lot, mostly, and do not seem to want to be there. They delight in life and not in war, and the personification of this delight is Captain Corelli. He apologizes and fools his way through the war, and eventually charms the doctor's daughter. ...I am generally not very keen on war epics, however, I have found this film to be really good and touching. The love scene behind the film gives a very sweet feel, while the war part offered a real insight of what happened during that time. Being a famous piece of history in itself, the story describes how Hawaii was taken by surprise by the bombing of Pearl Harbour by the Japanese to eliminate the weapon reserve of the Americans during the Second World War. It was this that triggered off the American involvement in the war itself, and to strike back at Japan. The production of the war scenes are amazing and like how some described (you get a feel of Titanic coming back once again), but it was a dreadful sight, and brings back once again that awful feeling of the lives that were sacrificed during the world war. Advantages: First ever 'new' Star Wars Book
Disadvantages: May only apeal to Sci Fi fans

...In 1991 Star Wars returned with a vengeance. Timothy Zahn, brought back the great characters of George Lucas' Star Wars Trilogy. The book brings the New Republic now fromed on the former Imperial world of Coruscant, back against a new Imperial leader, Grand Admiral Thrawn. Thrawn, a tactical genius has found Jedi clone Joruus C'boath. Using the Emporer's cloning chamber Thrawn is trying to take control of Coruscant and wipe out the republic. The first chapter also brings a new nuetral into the fray. The smuggler's alliance have accepted the Republic control and work for the Republic for money. The book was the first of many Star Wars novels by Zahn and is a classic. At only £5 it's a great buy for all Sci Fi readers and Star Wars fans alike.
