Reviews of the wednesday
Ash Wednesday - Ethan Hawke
Review of Ash Wednesday - Ethan Hawke by
brereton66
Advantages: Almost a good book
Disadvantages: Shallow narrative and two dimensional characters
...Ash Wednesday - Ethan Hawke
I bought this on whim when I was recently stocking up on books for my daily commute. I had no idea that Ethan Hawke was now writing books but was swayed by the cover art and blurb and was intrigued to see the kind of work he was putting out. Pretty thin reasons for buying a book but there you go. Here's what I thought.
As an actor Hawke has been around for many years now, first coming to prominence in the saccharine Robin Williams blub fest that was Dead Poet's Society. Since that time he has appeared in many Hollywood films of varying quality but has managed to build himself a solid reputation as a semi-serious thesp. As an author he published his first novel, 'The Hottest State', in the late nineties and followed it several years later with 'Ash Wednesday'.
'The Hottest State' is a tale...

Sheffield Wednesday Lets Lift them back
Review of Sheffield Wednesday by
sheffwed
Advantages: Got the best fans in the world
Disadvantages: seem to be slipping faster and faster
...Like most Wednesdayites I have followed my team since a very young age through the thick and the thin, but as the years go on we seem to slipping further and further and finding harder to keep up with the big boys! I feel that that this is down to the certain bad management of a Mr Dave Richards. Year after year he allowed us to get further into debt and continued to pick second rate managers who bought second rate players.
David Pleat and Danny Wilson were both left in the job for far too long and due to this we find ourselves back in Division 1
Sheffield Wednesday must be the only club I know who do not buy players and sell them on at a profit!!! Like someone said in another article you only have to mention the names Emerson Thome, Benito Carbone and Pauolo Di Canio and probably one of the best forwards in Europe Darko Kovacevic who...

Wednesday till i die
Review of Sheffield Wednesday by
slimsuncleronnie
Advantages: NEW MANAGER,WILL TO WIN IS COMING BACK
Disadvantages: LOSS OF QUALITY PLAYERS
...I have supported sheffield wednesday since i was about 7 years old and ever since then our seasons have been going pretty well and have not had to many run ins with relegation, until last season we had an awful time and got relegated to the first division. The pride and confidence has gone down in the players and it seems like they have no will to win. But i still had great confidence that the club would bounce right back and be an easy contender to come straight back up to the best league in the world'the premiership'. But there was a surprize in store for them and now find themselves struggling to stay in the first division and going down to the second division. We have lost most of our best players including Andy Booth to Huddersfield and Gilles De Bilde to Aston Villa which i think have rocked the club quite badly.I think the best...

Debut album from Wednesday 13
Review of Transylvania 90210 (Songs Of Death Dying And The Dead) [PA] - Wednesday 13 by
un002419
Advantages: Catchy songs
Disadvantages: Patchy at times
...If you liked Murderdolls then you're going to love the new Wednesday 13 album! Entitled 'Transylvania 90210: Songs Of Death, Dying & The Dead', the album certainly lives upto its name. The main subject matter of the album is obviously as the title suggests 'Death'. Inspiration for the album is clearly taken from '70s horror movies as is evident in the songs. Although the album isn't flawless, it is packed full of guitar riffs and catchy choruses. The lyrics are basically about horror, movies, murder and zombies, which, serious as it may sound is actually portrayed in a humourous way.
The first single release from the album 'I Walked With A Zombie' is inspired by a horror movie of the same name, it has a catchy chorus which basically is 'I Walked With A Zombie' screamed until your lungs collapse.
The best track on the album for me...

Bleak vistas, unrequited love and Wednesday Addams
Review of Addams Family Values (Wide Screen) by
dave27
Advantages: Bleak House
Disadvantages: Not dirty enough
..., a pallid little creature with black hair and a moustache, which they christen Pubert, creating the need for a nanny from hell, which they manage to secure in the person of crazed axe killer Debbie Jellinsky, who desires the riches if not the heart of the abominable Fester Addams.
Alack and alas, the shy and retiring (but extremely smelly) Fester is captivated by this vision of macabre loveliness while she despatches Wednesday and Pugsley to have fun and tricks at summer camp, where they are eternally taunted by spiteful creatures gleefully chanting KUMBAYA to cheesily strummed acoustic guitars. But there's a breakout and Wednesday and Pugs attempt to come to the rescue of their beloved uncle, but sadly too late to save him.
There's more excellent pieces of ghoulish humour in this nasty little masterpiece than we've got a right to expect...

Life as an Owl
Review of Sheffield Wednesday by
gearysgirl
Advantages: Some of the best young talent in the division
Disadvantages: A depressing fall from grace
...I have followed Sheffield Wednesday F.C. since I was little. I went to my first game when I was 18 months old, and bar for a few years after the Hillsborough Disaster, I have watched them home and away ever since.
When I first started watching Wednesday, they were a nothing team. We were in the 3rd Division and times were hard. From there on, I saw my team progress to what is now known as the Premiership. The top flight in English football.
I saw us relagated back to Division One and then beat Manchester United at Wembley the year after in the Rumbelows Cup. That season we were promoted back to the top division. Everything was going well. In 1993 we made 4 trips to Wembley in a season I will never forget - (The 2-1 FA Cup Semi-Final win against The Blunts was just the icing on the cake!!) - and almost 10 years later, look at us...

Hippychicks Happy Wednesdays
Review of Top 5 Things I Do When Home Alone for the Night by
Hippychick54
Advantages: Perfectly planned.....
Disadvantages: Watch somebody spoil it!!!!
...As readers of my 'quiet night in' will remember my evenings do not always go as planned - so I have decided to sort my Wednesday evenings out!
My one night in alone - I do believe that we should all experience time with ourselves - its good stuff and you can learn to like yourself!
But back to Wednesdays......
1 - The house.... tidy and softly lit! Anybody that knows me will realise that when alone I have my lamps lit in every corner of my bungalow ...lava lamps, glitter lamps, fibre optic jobbies - I have them all - tastefully placed and emitting a soft glow to my lounge and bedroom. The bathroom, with my bath towels and white cuddly bathrobe warming near the radiator....a large vanilla candle is the only lighting I allow.
2 - Dinner... I cook myself a meal - something I like without having to make sure others like it too...

Wednesday's Child
Review of Everything that starts with W ... by
Weeping_Willow
Advantages: N/A
Disadvantages: N/A
...where it could be improved. Anyway if you do decide to read all of it then I will let you form your own judgements.
**********Wednesday’s Child**********
Gazing out of my bedroom window at the birds chirping happily I cannot help but feel a pang of envy for they are free spirits without worry or troubles. In fact, life seems pretty good for them. To me life has been, and no doubt will be, a struggle. I like to think “challenge” is a better word, but no, it has been a struggle. At this point my eyes drift and settle on the framed photograph of my mother on its position next to my bedside and my thoughts are drawn to another time, another day.
My childhood was one which has left me many memories and many scars, too. Both literal and psychological. You see I have undergone life-changing circumstances that would be difficult...

Chocolate Heaven since, oh, last Wednesday
Review of Maya Gold by
tallulahbang
Advantages: Very rich and good quality dark chocolate.
Disadvantages: A bit pricey.
...In case you didn't know, I was a sick wee girlie last week (and if you didn't know, where the hell were you? God knows I complained long and hard enough about it to absolutely anyone who would listen in a desperate bid for sympathy). Anyways, stuck at home with a nasty bout of 'flu I whined to various family members, who, in the traditional manner of my family, laughed and then largely ignored me. However, by Wednesday my mother had either had enough of my whining or had started to feel a little guilty at my plight, and decided to drop round with 'presents'.
Now, having an Irish mother is a lot like having a Jewish mother, only there's more potatoes and swearing involved. Also, it should be borne in mind that my mother is certifiable. Her presents included; a bunch of bananas (I hate bananas, always have), a packet of hoover...

The Owls...You've got to Love Them
Review of Sheffield Wednesday by
mediacentral
Advantages: The Oldest footballing club in the world!
Disadvantages: Bottom of the First Division
...OK, so maybe you are thinking. "Why on Earth would anybody want to support a pathetic team like Sheffield Wednesday". Yes, us supporters get that alot. Well the answer is simply that I am an Owl through and through. You cant turn your back on something you love.
Its been a bit of a Family Event, supporting the Blue and White Wizards. Every since my Great Great Great Grandfather became one of the founding directors, we have been ticket holders for every game for the last 100 years or so. I have been going ever since i can remember!
I look back at the old Programmes. I see Sheff Wed Vs Everton in the FA Cup Final in 1966. And then the Cup matches against The Blades and Aresenal in 1992/1993. T | | |
