Who would have thought it? Nobody, that's who. The last time African music enjoyed any meaningful dalliance with the Western mainstream it was under Paul Simon's patronage with his peerless 1986 album Graceland. That's if you don't count Damon Albarn's extra curricular indulgences (which you don't). The last place we expected it to turn up again was from four New York kids who otherwise might have been found fiddling with their fringes in dorm rooms waiting for the Albert Hammond Jr. tour to hit town. Even by the obscure standards US indie has set itself over the last few years (see TV on the Radio and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah) Vampire Weekend offer up a witch's brew of audacity. That alone would be sufficient to garner infamy and a rep for experimentation, but they also hang from this rebellion of form a stream of alt-tunefulness so efficient and unabashed it would make The Strokes' first album blush. Thus, the piping reggae organ and sun-kissed swagger of "Oxford Comma" is given a heartbeat by tight lo-fi garage drums and " Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" lilts along with cheerful tribal rhythms and crisp African guitar, bound by ascending psychedelic vocals. And that's not to mention the mad strings that make listening to "M79" like watching Ski Sunday on hallucinogens. Their advanced rhythmical awareness even makes more standard indie rampages "I Stand Corrected" and "Walcott" less standard. Which is about the length of it; Vampire Weekend, making the standard much less standard. --James Berry ... less

A Surfing Odyssey from Casablanca to Cape Town. Two Australian surfers drive 30,000km down the coast of West Africa, on a year-long expedition searching for undiscovered waves. An 'Endless Summer' for the modern generation. Highly recommended... Richard and Andrew James are twin brothers, 26 years old, from Freshwater Beach in Sydney. Surfing and travel have been their lifelong passions so it was natural for them to embark on a filming mission that most would turn and run the other way at the thought of exploring such far off regions of the world. Thirty Thousand: A Surfing Odyssey from Casablanca to Cape Town, the brother's first film, is their story of a year long search for waves down the west coast of Africa (30,000 km), a place that some would consider as foreign as the moon. This film won the Audience Choice Award and Best Soundtrack at the International Surf Film Festival, France. Featuring undiscovered waves in Morocco, Western Sahara, Senegal, The Gambia, Angola, Namibia, and South Africa. ... less

Cavegirl is a British TV series directed by Daniel Peacock. It stars Stacey Cadman, Stephen Marcus, Jennifer Guy, Harry Capehorn and Lucinda Rhodes-Flaherty. It follows the adventures of a teenage cavegirl. Although based in the time of cave people there are many references to modern pop culture and in a similar vein to The Flintstones there are many ancient versions of modern inventions featured. The main characters are Cavegirl herself and her family Dad, Mum, Big Sis, Gran and Little Bro. Other tribe members feature prominently. Cavegirl is a pretty, feisty individual and a bit of a tomboy although during the series she begins to become interested in boys and many of the storylines involve her becoming more mature. Big Sis is very interested in her appearance and how boys see her. She is also rather shallow. Dad is the stereotypical rugged caveman, although he is protective of his children. Mum is a little dozey and Gran is very young at heart and more than a little crazy. Little Brother is curious about the world and often annoys Cavegirl immensely. Cavegirl was filmed in Western Cape Province, South Africa, based around Cape Town. Locations included Cederberg, Stadsaal Caves and the pools at Tweede Tol. In 2004 the Cavegirl series won The Children's Award at the BBC's 12th Annual Awards Ceremony for Independent Producers. It was aired on the BBC in the UK, BBC Kids in Canada and British Forces Broadcasting Service throughout the world. The BBC released this DVD containing some of the episodes entitled Cavegirl Rocks! on 30 June 2003. ... less

These progressive tunes are based around the sequences required for each of the exam scales. The excellent backing tracks provide interest and variety, with styles that include Rock, Reggae, Salsa, Garage and many others. The strong rhythmic character of the music helps to achieve rhythmic accuracy and even control. The tunes provide many tone development opportunities, and the play-along tracks help to gain a more critical awareness of intonation. "This book has several advantages over some of the other available material of thit ilk. There is plenty of time allowed for tuning the instrument, and the 'counting in' is just that: verbal counting instead of a metronome...The rhythms are ideally suited for the beginner flautist..." All in a Day's Work (1964): Marvel at the incredible versatility of the Land Rover as the 'maid of all work' travels ith ease over the most difficult of terrain, tackling everything from farm work to fire-fighting, assisted by all manner of specialist equipment to ensure the optimum performance in all circumstances. Bred in the Bone (1958): This journey through the history of the Land Rover starts with its pedigree as a child of Midlands manufacturing success. Cape of Dramatic Coastal Scenery
Advantages: Beautiful scenery, cheap
Disadvantages: Noen for me
...Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope on the Cape Peninsula are about two hours south west of Cape Town, South Africa. The best way to access this area in my opinion is by private transport for flexibility, but you can also pick one of the many organised tours that run from Cape Town. My trip was organised and run by the company I bought my holiday from and was included in my holiday package. It...

Cape Town
Advantages: Lovely place, nice people, cheap shopping, good food
Disadvantages: You may run out of things to do
...Ooh.. what a lovely place. I was in Cape Town for the Millennium celebrations, and I had also been there four years before. It was an unforgettable experience.
The hotel organised a huge banquet with special plates that say the Vineyard 1999-2000. We were allowed to take these home, as well as the specially embroidered serviettes.
The people were lovely there, always saying nice things...
