Disadvantages: Very sad if you only focus on the event and not the rescue mission

...World Trade Centre, as it says on the DVD cover, is definitely a true story of courage and survival. I saw this in my local Asda and thought it would be interesting to watch. It did not disappoint me. THE FILM The film is based on the tragic events of the September 11th disaster in America where the World Trade Centres were flown into by 2 planes and ultimately collapsed. The start of the film shows a police team heading into the first tower to help with the evacuation of the workers who were trapped at the top. As they are getting supplies the first tower starts to collapse and they try to dive into an elevator shaft for safety. The team is trapped and only one of them is able to move and as he starts to try to free the others the rest of the tower falls down and he then is also trapped. He is hurt so badly that he shoots himself...

World Brave Centre

Advantages: Moving, shows the good of humans, well acted
Disadvantages: Obviously upsetting in parts.

...I'm not a fan of movies based on real life events, as I find them a little too uncomfortable to watch, I prefer to watch something a bit more escapist and funny! But when my brother bought the World Trade Centre DVD when we were out shopping last week, I decided it would be worth a watch, and so I settled down last week to watch World Trade Centre, based on the events of 9/11 in 2001. The film follows the officers of New York City who work in the Port Authority region. When they hear of the first plane hitting the North Tower of the World Trade Centre, they are dispatched to downtown New York to help with the rescue mission, and are led by Officer John McLoughlin (Nicolas Cage). The fall of the world trade centres

Advantages: It leaves out the graphic attacks
Disadvantages: The story is drawn out

...Its not surprising that one of the most catastrophic events in American History would eventually make it on to the big screen. What is surprising is that it has happened only 5 years after the attacks. World Trade Centre is just one of the films that attempts to recreate the events of September 11th, 2001. As the New York police get set for another day on the beat, the news comes through that a plane has crashed into one of the twin towers. This follows two of the surviving officers who are trapped between the rubble and reminisce about their family's and their lives off the job. ...Nottingham has two large shopping centres, the Broadmarsh Centre and the Victoria Centre, situated at opposite ends of the city centre .The Victoria Centre is the bigger of the two, containing 120 shops (not counting all the various stalls in the market area.) Getting there is easy - if you drive, there's parking for over 2700 cars . If you don't drive, don't worry - almost all the Nottingham City Transport buses stop either directly outside the Victoria Centre, or within a few minutes walk of it . Other bus companies from slightly further afield, such as Trent Barton , terminate at the local coach station within the centre . Baby, it's a wild world

Advantages: Can be cheap, convenient, mildly interesting.
Disadvantages: Maybe a bit boring.

...OK, so I cheated with the title. The World Trade Center (sic - sorry I made a British typo when I asked Melanie to add this one) isn't wild but it is wide, and long, and ... quite high too. At the top of Ploenchit Road, it's just out of the Sukhumvit area and is very easy to get to. The Sky Train is the easiest way, or you could get a bus, or even walk. If you're on drugs or it's your first time out of western Europe, you might consider taking a tuk-tuk. (More on Bangkok transport to come in another opinion.) Once you've got there, the first feeling is of being overwhelmed with the vastness of this shopping mall. However, when you scratch below the surface, I suspect that you'll find much less of interest here than your initial expectation. Monkey world

Advantages: Monkeys, the work the sanctuary does.
Disadvantages: Possible not enough there for a full day out, the ice cream scam.

...Monkey world is a monkey and ape rescue centre in Dorset. Many of the Monkeys there have been rescued from foreign countries where they suffered horrific abuse, so the sanctuary really should be praised for the work it does. As the monkeys all seem healthy and they have large enclosures filled with toys to keep then occupied. I visited yesterday, I live in South Wales, so it is a three hour drive, so I had high hopes. The park is large and easy to get around but apart from children's playgrounds, the gift shop and café, and of course the monkey's there is little else to do, and therefore I don't think it would entertain for a whole day. The Monkeys themselves were very cute, but weren't doing a lot, which is their choice of course, but it did mean after a while it was a little like once you've seen one monkey you have seen them all...

Job Centre fiasco

Disadvantages: Too many to mention

...Very briefly as the wife of a man who was made redundant the thought of the Job Centre plus being helpful no longer exists. As a mortgage holder and family with two school age children my husband was only entitled to Job Seeks Allowance (JSA). This was paid for 26 weeks and then after still not successful in securing employment, this was stopped. Because I work more than 20 hours a week (I am still only part time) I am expected to support the family and bills. My husband has never been asked how much I earn. This assessment is merely done of the hours I work and not the take home pay coming into the home. Having never claimed any benefits at all before this (but we are in a recession as you all know) we enquired about training and extra help, but, alas, there was no entitlement apparently.
