"The worst hotel in Thessaloniki"

...Kastoria in northern Greece is a fantastic place to visit for a weekend; the small town hangs of the mountains over a picturesque lake. Alas its name-sake in Thessaloniki has nothing in common. It is a grotty hotel smack-bang in the centre of Thessalonica. I arrived in Thessaloniki at shortly midnight after a rather long journey; with just ?100 in my pocket (most of that destined to be eaten by Taxis) I needed somewhere cheap and central. The taxi took me to road the Hotel Kastoria was on, and told me I had two choices from here. Kastoria and somewhere else. As I had visited the town of Kastoria a few times before, so I held up hope for the Hotel Kastoria, and staggered across the road. Thessaloniki & Mount Olympus: Highlights & Info

Advantages: Shopping, castle-top cafe, amazing scenes at Mt Olympus
Disadvantages: Cross the roads with care! (Wow! I'm glad I don't have to drive there!)

...Olympus If you love mountains and mountainous scenery in general, then Mt Olympus won’t disappoint you. I saw plenty of wildlife there, such as frogs, birds of prey, and small lizards peeping out shyly from behind wooden bridges. I encountered some amazingly deep valleys clustered with green trees. (Although people who don’t like heights may not appreciate this so much). We also came across several waterfalls and streams. The people were very friendly and we were greeted in Greek many times by other visitors on the mountain. As evening approached, we found that most of the camp sites were full and we didn’t get the one of our choice. We had to try quite a few before finding one that had space for us. Accommodation I stayed with a friend in Thessaloniki, so I’m afraid I can’t comment on hotel prices...

Hotel International

Advantages: Location, breakfasts

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

...I'm glad that I did not get to read any of the reviews before I went to this hotel, or see the Holidays from Hell programme the night before! The hotel can be found along the seafront, about three miles from the main centre of Blackpool, heading out towards Fleetwood. It is now under the Britannia hotels group and it is easily accessible by tram and bus. We used the trams the whole time instead of me driving all the time. My husband, my two youngest children and myself went last week for a couple of nights, after finding an advert which gave a special price of £35 per person dinner bed and breakfast per night. The two children were included free of charge, including their meals. The advert did state that the hotel was ungoing a £7million pound upgrade, and that some services may not be available. ...I recently stayed overnight at the chine hotel in Bournemouth whilst in the area for a friends wedding. It is currently rated as a three star hotel, but I cannot for the life of me see why as I found it to be of at least four star standard. There are 86 rooms, all of which incorporate an en suite bathroom and are decorated to a decent standard. All rooms include a hair dryer, trouser press, direct dial telephone, satellite television (selected channels only) and the complementary tray of tea, coffee and biscuits. There are four types of rooms available in relation to the view they offer the guests. The basic room is an inland room, then there is a garden facing room and finally the sea views and sea views with balcony (the prices are slightly higher for these). It is slightly further out just opposite the Castle Bill Bill and when you cross the road it?s a flat walk all the way to the marina which is away from the large hills on which many of the other hotels are located. Reception On arrival check in was swift and at this time we opted to pay for a safety deposit box we were then handed the safe key and card key to room 524 and pointed in the direction of the lifts. On looking round reception it was laid out with tables and chairs and also had a grand piano, a small bar ,toilets and computers with internet access. The stores are decorated very simply and classically in my opinion. They are quite bright and welcoming and have a black trimming in the decor which I think gives it a hint of glamour.
