The ideal solution
Review of Compaq Evo Thin Client T20 - Geode GX1 300 MHz by  benjamin15

Advantages: All users can have up to date software
Disadvantages: It has an low power usuage

...What is it? A “thin client” is a device that enables all applications to be run from a single server instead of the applications been run from the individual persons computer. Compaq evo thin client T20 otherwise known as the “thin client” for people in the trade. Compaq evo is a Microsoft based terminal, which means it has the ability to connect over a network to an operating system (server) which has a citrix metaframe software operating. Thin client enables the server to control all applications, processing and storage. This means all applications are run from a single server, thus the thin client is used to process keyboard input and screen output, and hence is where the users applications and folders stay. Experience The experience I have had with Compaq evo thin client T20... Read review

**Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC H3950**
Review of Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC H3950 by  mightyd

Advantages: Great Transflective Screen and amazingly fast processor
Disadvantages: Over priced

...º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤ºHP iPAQ Pocket PC H3950 º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`° This is a great handheld pocket PC and what's more, you can carry it around with you wherever you go. Just think of all of the things you can do with a compact computer at the palm of your hands. Write documents and notes when you need to, particularly great when organising your life to put it simpler. I mean, it's far better then a diary because if you're anything like me, you probably end up misplacing your diary and I wouldn't dare think of losing my pocket PC. You can easily access the internet from wherever you are, if you need to look up tube/train times at last minute, you can. If you perhaps want to just research something at a particular moment for example in a pub quiz - I'm not saying you should cheat at pub quizzes or anything - well they're easy anyway... Read review

Use it as a Thin Client OS?
Review of Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Complete package by  ergot

Advantages: better then NTrigue which was the last Microsoft server base used here.
Disadvantages: Still some problems with Win 2000 and software (when used as a thin client OS)

...I work at one of the companies that was working with Microsoft fault finding and working with Windows 2000 Beta then the full release version on a thin client setup. Thin client incase you are not sure is where you have some servers (6 in our case) running the software and lots of dumb terminals (150 in our case). We had lots of problems at the start and it took microsoft US, ages to fix them (microsoft UK was rarely any good). The University where I work was due to hold one of the launch parties and quite a few staff were going to be invited. However due to the fact that they could not get the set up to work properly meant we were not used and no one got invited to any launch. Whats more the microsoft staff on TV on the launch day said, 'No one has had any problems with the software.'. This was not true. Most... Read review

Time of Thin Blood: A Vampire RPG scenario
Review of Vampire The Time of Thin Blood by  Mazanostra

Advantages: Introduces radical changes in the Vampire the Masquerade universe
Disadvantages: Sadly, these changes might limit the Story Teller's and group's choices

...It would be very easy to tear this rather flimsy product apart. After all as I was reading through it on the first night after I bought it, my girlfriend turned to me and said, with more scorn than I have ever heard her use before or since, "You read a load of crap, don't you?" Well, I do, Time Of Thin Blood is not one of White Wolf's higher brow products and to make even the slightest of cases for it you have to be something of a White Wolf aficionado. So - the dilemma, wade in with boots flying or try and point out why a White Wolf fan might want to buy the book? Well the former is too easy and even though I'm not the biggest Vampire fan I do play it enough to be interested in some of the contents. Time Of Thin Blood is White Wolf's "Year Zero" for Vampire and is something of a teasing tart of a book, threatening to detail... Read review

Free Set top PC with every model
Review of Neoware Eon Preferred 2000e - MediaGX by  dobieg

Advantages: Smaller than a digibox!
Disadvantages: Limited processing power

...As well as being a reasonable 'thin client' the Neoware Eon Preferred 2000e - MediaGX could be described as a generic Personal Computer, admittedly with a relatively modest specification, but PC nonetheless! I came about using a Neoware system from almost entirely the opposite direction from most people. The unit is marketed primarily as a 'thin client' - the 32Mb ROM allows a linux-based terminal emulator to run which can connect to a number of hosts using standard TCPIP over an Ethernet - and supports windows terminal emulation, 5250, TV100 etc. The applications run on a host server, and all the client does is do the media presentation stuff. On the other hand, looking at the system architecture, it's actually a modestly specified PC in it's own right. At the core of the system is a Geode processor - a cut down low... Read review

Computers are evil
Review of Member Advice on Computer Users by  ILoveJackDaniels

Advantages: Better use of YOUR PC!
Disadvantages: Hopefully, none.

...Ahhh, technophobia. It's a wonderful thing, really. It makes my life much easier than it could be. You see, I'm a web designer. Now, while that might sound like a job that entails little technical support, for many of my clients I am the only person they know who knows their way around a PC. So if they go deleting their registry, who is their first phone call to? Yours truly, of course. It's amazing listening to so many competent, intelligent people who have been taken to the brink of insanity by a little box that sits by their desk that they use every day. Computers are great. It's surprisingly difficult designing websites without them, and you only need to spend a little time using them to see just how useful they can be. Sadly though, most people fail to make use of the infernal grey box, afraid it will not take kindly... Read review

Underneath the Apple Tree
Review of Apple by  SnowiestElf

Advantages: Deliciously tasty, easy to grow
Disadvantages: Lots of pruning required for good yields

...to a smaller crop in one year, but the next year, the tree will overcrop itself. The tree may then not have enough resources to build up fruiting buds for the third year, and so the biennial cropping tendency is set in motion. If you get a large outbreak of deisease or colonisation by bugs in one year, this could also cause the same effect. FRUIT THINNING If a heavy fruit crop has set, thinning is essential. This will result in larger apples of a higher quality and flavour. Thinning out heavy crops of fruit will also help to prevent branches from breaking under the weight. If your apple tree is young, allowing it to overcrop itself will severely drain its resources and this will then slow down the growth of new buds. It is possible to thin out the young fruitless as they form, however, I have found that the best time to do it is after the 'June... Read review

The Thin Blue Line
Review of The Thin Blue Line - The Complete Series 1 and 2 by  Mel27

Advantages: Great comedy and good value
Disadvantages: Difficult to find

...The whole of this brilliant sit-com in one video box set! The "Thin Blue Line" between order and disorder is the police of course, but at Gasforth Police station it is practically invisible! I bought this from HMV for £17 but it was quite a while before I found it in the high street. It's available from websites such as Amazon for around £14. This will mainly appeal to people who watched it on TV and want to buy the whole two series for less than the cost of the separate editions but it may bring in some new fans. I didn't pay much attention to it when it was on TV until Series 2. The characters are so funny that it is difficult to pick a favourite! Rowan Atkinson is brilliant as the bungling Inspector Fowler who spends more time upsetting his partner and colleague Patricia than catching criminals. The plain clothes squad... Read review

PC world...an Employees view!
Review of PC World (Shop) by  ross88guy

Advantages: Huge amount of choice, competitive prices, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Lack of communication with head office, still sales culture.

...about computing and the systems of the store, they wil aim to solve your problem as quick as possible without losing the customer or store money. Business Manager- This person the responsibility of managing the business advisors and is often directly involved with large business clients, ensuring they are receiving the best service available. Store Manager/Area manager- this person is usually feared by all staff! It is the nature of all retail to maximise sales and customer satisfaction. In my store he often appears without notice and stays all day, taking over responsibility for the sales floor. I have heard that he often calls up the managers while he is in other stores or on holiday at stupid time in the morning as he chases up absences. WORK CULTURE I have been working at PC world now for over a year and in that time I have... Read review

THIN AND SLEEK
Review of Toshiba Pocket PC E310 by  ani_muza

Advantages: well-designed, strong infrared, very crisp, clear screen.
Disadvantages: Software bundle pretty basic, screen could be bigger

...Palm’s days as the king of tiny handhelds are numbered with the introduction of the Toshiba e310 Pocket PC. Toshiba, though not that well known in this part of the world as a PDA maker (its Pocket PC models were not brought in till now), has actually been fairly innovative in its handheld designs – for example, Toshiba was the first to integrate both a CompactFlash AND Secure Digital (SD) slot in its Pocket PCs; the first to introduce an XScale processor handheld; and the first to offer a 4in LCD screen in a Pocket PC (the largest right now is 3.8in). Now, the company has taken the crown for the thinnest Pocket PC around. The e310 is amazingly thin – in fact, it’s about as thin as a Palm m515, but about half an inch longer. If you think that’s not something, chew on this – the e310 has a 240 x 320 pixel screen and all the bells... Read review
