This is a step in the right direction. But it isn't employed at enough places for it to be effective on a global scale. Plus we have all the Less Economically Developed Countries who can't afford to mop up their CO2 as soon as they produce it. But there is a simple long term plan. That's plants. Well, plants and other photosynthesising organisms. Which is a good idea. It is another myth that plants take CO2 and turn it into oxygen. They actually take oxygen and make CO2 as well, at night, when there’s no sunshine. It just happens they turn CO2 into food, carbon and oxygen at a faster rate than they do the opposite. ...with the unpredictable chaos that throws the equations out of context. This makes accurately predicting the weather impossible, which makes me wonder how we can predict exactly what is going to happen in the next 50 years or so regarding the climate. Maybe we shouldn't be as worried as we are being made to feel, but then it could swing the other way as well and perhaps we should be more worried about our future on this planet. I ask the question; what are we going to do about it? Well to be honest I don't really think there is much we can do because if we don't really know what exactly the climate is doing, then how can it be reasonable to take strong enough action to counteract these forecasts? ...of the cost of climate change and the cost of stablisation as well as the transition process to a low carbon economy, which is going to take a long time to achieve. A report of this complexity and importance is always going to have supporters and opponents in politics and in the population in general. I, for one, welcomed the report as a positive step forward, and I personally think this is one of the best things this government might have done in that the evidence for Global Warming is overwhelming in my opinion, (which is based on academic studies, and not based on what I read in the newspapers). Brown talked about the need for Technology Transfer to developing nations, and I completely support that, while at the same time I understand it is not that straightforward. From the outset, I should state that I am not a professional chef, have never had any training in the art of food preparation, but am a keen amateur. I started in the kitchen using hand me downs from my parents when I went off to university. Not bad, but not good knives by any stretch, however they were adequate for beans on toast and other student staples. When I moved into my first home, I bought a set of knives that looked like they had metal handles, but were in fact plastic. The joins attracted dirt and debris that was hard to remove, and the balance was all wrong. I suspect that the op was written as an assignment for Tom's degree course and to that end it is well laid out, with relevant source material, and includes a reasoned conclusion. In my opinion absolutely nothing - if we think otherwise we could only exhaust our resources by spending millions of pounds on sea defences that at the most would only give us a little extra time before the inevitable will happen. One of the ploys we hear about mostly is carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels, but I am afraid Mother Nature makes us a very poor second place.
