...In November last year, I bought an IBM ThinkPad 600 Laptop computer. It is second hand, but only just over a year old. It cost £500 incl VAT and this is what I got for my money? PII 300 Processor 64 MB Ram 5 Gig HDD 24x CD-Rom 13.3? screen 56K modem I needed a laptop for work, so was looking for something that isn't afraid of getting carted around. Now, I know that's the general idea of laptops, but these days they seem to be built to look good and not to be durable when carrying them around. That's fine if you leave your laptop on your desk all the time, but this needs to be carried around a lot, and in any case, I've got the desktop PC which sits on my desk! ...I bought this laptop on insurance, as my previous ThinkPad was stolen and I loved it so much that I couldn't bear to buy a different brand. ...Watching the ICT market depresses me. Only a couple of short years ago I invested in the biggest desktop hard disk drive I could ever find - A roomy 120GB Seagate. ...I have owned several different ThinkPad's over the years. I have enjoyed them all and found them to be extremely useful and reliable. I knew that I wanted a decent quality portable laptop that would be suitable for all the basics. I have been using the laptop mainly for office related items such as documents and spreadsheets but have also been using it to store and edit photographs and videos. So far I have had no problems and that fact that it comes with a media card reader was very useful. This version of the ThinkPad is pretty similar to the rest of the laptops in the series. There is little to no distortion with the screen and it is fairly bright and gives a high quality picture. ...IBM Thinkpad x41 with the Ultrabase is the best and most powerful laptop of its kind. 1.3 kg and with the 8 cell battery up to 6 hours operating time, it is mostly suited for travelers and collage students Instead of the standard 512 mb of RAM, ive got the 1.5 GB installed, so it is faster and has better performance. It has the touchpoint interface, which is the second best after the mouse because it is more precise than the touchPad. The ThinkLight HDD protection is useful when you are traveling by bus or train because it suits itself to repeated bumps and allows the HDD run even with heavy vibration. As suited to IBMs, there is a little light in the edge of the monitor, which is very good in the dark. Advantages: Quite big, made well, range of colours, good grip on surface

...£4.60p (do the maths a staggering 46p each) this would have let me be as rough and as careless as I wanted as a replacement was just behind me on the shelf. So if your mouse pad (when you look at it) is as dirty as coal miners face, as sticky as a half eaten stick of rock and as warn out as your Grans TV, you know its time to let your beloved novelty pad go. By the way these pads aren’t indestructible and last only as long if not a little longer then the “special pads” but they are cheap and reality more comfortable as they usually have a bigger surface area for the mouse to roll on. The Belkin pad is Dimensions (in): 12.5 x 8.5 x 0.3 which I think is more then enough surface area for a mouse to be used comfortably,it comes in a range of colours such as blue green red and grey. Advantages: Well built and cheap, Buttons feel "right" and it has 12 buttons and a throttle.
Disadvantages: no analogue stick and the software sucks.

...Right, first things first. This pad is cheap for what you get. It set me back 16 British pounds and I personally think that it was worth every penny. Those 16 pounds buy you, 12 fully functional buttons (unlike some pads which have buttons that show up in the control panel but not in games), a throttle wheel, a d-pad and also both USB and gameport connectors. Installation was a breeze on all three pcs I tested it on. Windows ME, 98 and 2000 all find the new USB device and all you need do is point it towards the driver CD provided with the pad and install the optional software (allowing you to program the buttons to a number of keyboard presses) and away you go!
