Dell 5150 3.06Ghz (P4 HT), 80Gb/512Mb DVD+R

Advantages: Speed, big HD, High res screen
Disadvantages: fan positioning, heat, heavy PSU

.... 512Mb RAM - expandable but enough for me. 80Gb hard drive. Good sized drive capable of storing loads of data such as MP3s, video clips etc. 1600x1200 screen. A beautiful big screen. Well lit and great to work with both for text and graphics/photos. The associated graphics card module is good enough and handles some games OK but that wasn't my main reason for buying so I can live with it being less than stellar. DVD+W DVD writer. I'd have preferred a DVD-R drive and 4X is a bit slow but it does the job. Other goodies: 56K modem Wireless network adaptor 2 X USB 1 X Firewire (a better bet for external hard drives etc) External Monitor socket with support for dual screen. I suspect the machine was originally destined for the corporate market as it was mercifully free of 'bonus' software cluttering it up. Apart from Norton AV...

P4 3.2GHz CPU with 512Kb Cache! Expensive but fast

Advantages: FAST, Retail box comes with fan, sticker, manual
Disadvantages: More expensive than Celerons, AMDs, etc

...Okay, so I bought myself a motherboard (see Asus P4C800-E Deluxe review) to build a computer but it?s not a computer without the rest of the components. One of these other components I needed was the CPU. ?HUH? A C-P-What?!!!??.Well since you ask, I will tell you. CPU is an acronym for Central Processing Unit (aka: Processor). This is the computer?s brain and it plays an important role in a computer. This is where all the information ?processed? and where all the calculations are done. Generally, the faster the CPU, the better the performance but there are other factors to take into consideration. It usually looks like a square metal thing, with gold pins underneath but Pentium 3?s have a single connector that slots into a slot rather than use pins. The CPU I am reviewing is Intel?s Pentium 4 (P4 for short) 3.2GHz CPU. This one has...

Siemens A50

Advantages: About as cheap as you can expect to find
Disadvantages: The buttons are VERY annoying, and it is quite easy to damage.

...I decided that what I needed from a phone was simply to make calls and send the occasional text message. That's why I bought the A50. Its cheap, no frills approach seemed to be just what I needed. And don't get me wrong it has served me quite well but I do have a few gripes that are making me think I might soon be changing phones (I now have). The main one is that the buttons are not very responsive. There is nothing more annoying than trying to write a text and moving on to the next character only to realise that you didn't press the button hard enough for the last one to register. This phone is certainly not for the ardent texter. It just doesn't provide as exciting a tactile experience as you would like. Whereas some phones are actually a joy to use (see my review of the Sony Ericsson k700i) using this phone really is...

AMD's Phenom II 3Ghz Beast!

Advantages: Highly overclockable, will eat, chew and spit out anything! PRICE!!!!
Disadvantages: its milli seconds slower than the I7! so no disadvantages at all!!!

...On for my 7th review!! I bought this remarkable peice of kit approximately 3 months ago, and i have to say it certainly does NOT disappoint! With masses and masses of power it will spit out anything with grace and style and is the equivelant to using a nuclear device to knock off a door! full on over kill but done with pure style and less mushrooming and carnage! so the basic standard is 3Ghz x4 when it comes out of the box... ok, so for many times as much you can have Pentiums I7 with more oomph and quicker! but the AMD comes into its own when you decide to overclock the already beastly device! i have read in bench tests it has peaked at 5Ghz! but definitely not recommended! i think 3.5-4Ghz is a safe bet, for standard cooling and pre-set voltages..... but that is still a whopping 14Ghz of combined power! BEASTLY is an understatement...

My Dream Machine CPU - P4 Prescott 2.8GHz

Advantages: Very Fast, Latest technology
Disadvantages: Not 64 bit like AMD, heat problems

...In the second on my series of computer component reviews, I would like to offer you the Pentium 4 Prescott 2.8Ghz. --------------------- Prescott? --------------------- Intel have produced 5 versions of their pentium 4 range. The first was the Willamite which would only accept RD RAM and was very short lived. The next was the Northwood, which is the one which sits in most computers nowadays. Then there's the ridiculously expensive Extreme Edition, for really silly gamers who want huge performance from their machines. And of course the P4-M for laptops. This processor is designed to give max performance on the move. But there's a new version on the block called Prescott. This, I decided, was the chip for me. Firstly, it's got the 800MHz front serial bus found in the later versions of the Northwood. The FSB speed makes...

Siemens A50

Advantages: Small and stylish
Disadvantages: Quality of games

...I had my Siemens A50 given to me at Christmas and I am still now trying to figure out how to use some of the functions on it such as the melody manager. The handset itself is light (96g), stylish, appealing to look at with a good button layout and fits nice and comfortably in your hand or pocket. It has a good battery life both on standby and talktime use (I do not know exact figures at the moment but will add them as soon as I find them out). The screen is a nice large visable size, which lights up a nice orange colour when you touch the buttons or have and incoming call. The ringtones I think sound a bit cheap and tacky for such a stylish phone, but there is quite a good range (20), but I'm not sure if u can download more if you wish. I think the volume of the phone is a bit too quiet if in a bag but in normal circumstances it...

Playstation 3

Advantages: Graphics, playability, blu-ray player!
Disadvantages: None

...I have been umming and arring over which colsole to buy, the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. I had heard a lot of positive things about the Xbox, and I had also heard that graphics wise and gaming wise the Xbox was slightly better than the Playstation 3. However, I eventually decided to go for the Playstation 3 for several reasons. Firstly, and probably mainly, was because of the recent decision to cancel production of the HD-DVD format (a format which the Xbox 360 is developed to play), meaning that the Blu-Ray dvd format ( a format that the Playstation 3 is developed to play) will dominate the High Definition DVD market in the near future. Secondly, last year, the PS3's Blu-ray DVD player was voted best High Definition DVD player on the market. A DVD player that would have set you back over £250 to buy on it's own, but by buying...

Review of Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3)

Playstation 3

Advantages: Great graphics and choice of games
Disadvantages: expensive

...I got one last year for Christmas and found it to be better than my XBox 360 in almost every area, in my opinion this truly is the best games console on the market and would recommend it to anyone who is into their gaming. The graphics are phenomenal and the range of games available is tremendous! I find the controllers are much easier and more comfortable to use than the other consoles on the market today i.e. xbox 360s controller has no area for the hands to get a grip of and is quite frankly annoying especially when using after the playstation 3, the rechargable controller function is a tremendous help as i was always buying batteries and having the hassle of inserting them into the xbox and now i simply plug into the playstation console and the charges up no problem, i can even use the controller while its charging! i would...

Review of Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3)

PS3, for you and me?

Advantages: Stylish, good games available + lots more on the way, blu ray
Disadvantages: No HD cable in the box, no rumble, limited BC

...The PlayStation 3 is Sonys third generation of home consoles. After the stellar performance of the PlayStation 2 and launch of its two rivals the Wii and Xbox 360 the PS3 has a tough act to follow. Sony are clearly not worried as according to their marketing the PS3 is a "supercomputer" and is capable of "4D" graphics, with such bold claims I had to pick one up for myself and see if it was true! Unboxing The first thing you will notice about the PlayStation 3 box is that it's huge! The Xbox 360 had a rather large box but this is incredible being about 1.5x as big. The box design itself is worth a mention as it is pretty neat and the front has a picture of the console floating with the wireless sixaxis controller on a black and red background. On the bottom left hand side you will see the model you have purchased which will be either...
