ThinkCentre... Think Smarter
Review of ThinkCentre S50 8183 - P4 2.8 GHz by
RichardSlater
Advantages: Slimline, Well Featured, Looks Good
Disadvantages: No Firewire, Not thought out properly
...ThinkCentre... Think Smarter
IBM’s range of workstations have always been backed up with a long history, after all shouldn’t IBM be the experts, they did “invent” the PC after all! IBM’s ThinkCentre range represents IBM’s mid-range business workstations, enough power and multimedia capabilities to run the top end office and productivity, whilst keeping costs down to make the systems as affordable as possible. A hidden but equally important part of the ThinkCentres resides inside the computer and installed on the hard drives, these discrete design decisions and software packages that are shipped with the machines. I have recently installed 86 IBM ThinkCentre S50’s at work; this review is my attempt to distil my experiences into words.

Sony DSC S50
Review of Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S50 by
Matt_Igoe
Advantages: Ease of use, sony quality
Disadvantages: Memory cards slightly expensive but can be re-used though
...The Sony MSC S50 is a versity camera with multiple choices of photo detailing and short video caption capabilities.
Having been looking for a cmera for a while I decided to fgo for the S50, beening Sony i expected high quality, and ease of use, the 6X digital zoom is good and by the fitting of other lens such a wide angle lens which can also act as a better macro than the camera already has.
It uses the Sony memory sticks to store the photos, it comes with a 4 MB stick and you can purchase upto 64 MB cards currently soon a 128MB card will be available.
The 4 MB card holds 50 reasonble quality photos.
The software allows easy download through a USB connection and easy minipulation of photos.
It will record sound onto photos and with the video clips of 5, 10 or 15 seconds.
It is also possible to connect to a TV via an A/V out...

Pentax Optio S50 is great.
Review of Pentax Optio S50 by
victoriaelectra
Advantages: compact,well built,full manual control,excellent macro.
Disadvantages: response could be a bit faster
...I spent about 6 hours reading camera reviews in magazines and online before purchasing a Pentax Optio s50. I paid £160 in the summer of 2005, which was a bargain then and it's probably a lot cheaper now.
The Good points:
I would call this camera a professional compact, it is small enough to fit in your pocket but with enough professional touches to make it a tool rather than a toy. For example you can attach it to a tripod, a lot of small silver compacts don't have that ability and show them up as being 'fun snappers' rather than for someone who cares about the photos they take.
Sturdy build; all metal case. Decent weight to it. Not cheap and plastic!
Extensive modes of operation from full auto 'point and click' to full manual control of Focus, light modes, exposure time up to 4 seconds, light sensitivity (ISO...

Tangos in Istambul back in the 40s and 50's
Review of Tangolar - Ibrahim Ozgur by
Sybarite45
Advantages: Relaxing, plenty of nostalgia
Disadvantages: seems quieter, perhaps sings with less passion than an Argentinian...
...¡A nice discovery! At first I was attracted by the drawing on the cover. Then by the topic: Tangos recorded by a famous turkish tango singer of the 40's and 50's. My imagination took flight.... Istambul just before or during the war... Spies and spices... Now seriously, I was not disapointed, but I was a bit surprised: the voice and the way Ibrahim Özgur sings those tangos turns out to be very relaxing. A bit different from the way Argentinians sing, since I would say they often do it with a bit more passion. But nonetheless this recording is plenty of nostalgia and suffering. Besides I love the way the turkish language sounds (since sadly enough I do not understand it). The music sounds nice. The pretty old recordings have beeen well treated. I already had a number of CDs of turkish classical as well as folk and popular music...

Extremely Over Priced PC
Review of Lenovo ThinkCentre A55 9265 - Pentium D 915 2.8 GHz by
saraharcher
Advantages: The case dosn't look too bad
Disadvantages: Addequate but outdated CPU
...significantly lower than Lenovo is 3Ghz upwards. Quite how the ThinkCentre A55 hopes to even try to compete with other manufacturers offering 3-4Ghz CPU's with a price tag of around £50 less is somewhat of a mystery. Having said that, as my mate has proven with flying colours.."there is one born every minute"
The memory installed is on a par with most budget PC's and is supplied with 512Mb DDR II SDRAM. Thankfully memory these days is a relatively cheap upgrade option.
The hard drive installed again is somewhat below acceptable for the price tag. The A55 is supplied with an 80Gb hard drive. Although this size of drive is acceptable, for £400 you would expect something around 100 -120Gb in size.
The graphics card is on-board as is the norm with all budget PC's. The graphics memory is shared with the PC's RAM and is adjustable via the PC...

Flash Bang Wallop Worra Picture
Review of Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S50 by
stevethesleeve
Advantages: Nice size, loads of features and effects, and great picture quality.
Disadvantages: No optical viewfinder
...Let's get this straight...I didn't choose my Sony DSC-S50, it chose me! If I'd had my druthers, I would have been counting out the used fifties for a digital SLR, but of course, I'd have been counting for quite a while, and frankly, I don't have that kind of dosh. So when I was offered the DSC-S50, at what seemed a very reasonable price; a shade under £350, I grabbed it, since which time, I have used it so much that I've all but forgotten how to use my 'old-fashioned' film cameras.
It's a nice camera to hold. Not too small (my fat fingers always feel clumsy when encountering really small cameras) but definitely not too big either. It's larger, particularly in the depth of the body, than many of it's competitors, but I don't find this a problem. the camera still slips readily into my bag as I leave the house, and doesn't take up...

excellent feature packed camera
Review of Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S50 by
andyroo123uk
Advantages: ease of use, decent picture size and quality, excellent feature
Disadvantages: lack of normal viewfinder
...I bought this Camera in August of last year and have been using it almost daily since, i can say it is one of the best items i have ever bought.
The only problems i had was upon purchasing, were the lack of decent sized memory stick, sony only supplies a 4mb one, which with the Camera's 2.1 mega pixel picture size, does not allow you to store many photo's (about 4 in full quality), and the lack of a case supplied with the Camera, which can be a bit of a problem if u want to take it anywhere.
Apart from these slight problems which are easily solved the Sony DSC-S50 supplies all you want from a digital camera. The features, which includes a 6x zoom, a movie function with sound, free angle lcd screen, which allows you to move it freely about almost 360 degrees, handy if you like taking pictures of yourself, or it can be turned round so...

Stand up if you love Pentax
Review of Pentax Optio S50 by
moo-cow
Advantages: Solid, light, reliable, good-looking, easy to use, a name you can trust
Disadvantages: Guzzles batteries (as they all do), a bit slow to start up
...Last Christmas I was getting ready to buy my first digital camera. I didn't know what features I wanted on it exactly, but I knew that I didn't want to spend more than £300... or less than £200. I did plenty of research online before making my decision and opted for the Pentax Optio S50 in the end. This camera hadn't been out long back then.
Pentax lenses are, some say, the very best in the world, so I took this fact into consideration when choosing which camera to buy. As is the case these days, we are spoilt for choice as consumers with so many manufacturers vying for our custom. I feel I've made a wise choice in going for Pentax. After all, the better the lens, the better the picture.
For £255, I got the camera, a 512mb memory card, a case, a wrist strap, all the necessary cables and software, two batteries and a charger. I...

Excellent Introduction to a Digital Photography
Review of Canon PowerShot S50 by
Aphasia
Advantages: Great Functionality, Battery Life
Disadvantages: Front Sliding Mechanism, Short Video Time (3 mins), Macro Focus
...There is a very broad line between a professional digital SLR cameras and point and shoot cameras. The professional SLR cameras have a multitude of features, settings and are priced rather highly. Point and shoot cameras usually have limited functionality at a cheaper price and smaller size.
The Canon Powershot S50 stakes its mark on that broad line between these two.
The price is a little more expensive than an average point and shoot but still well below a Digital SLR. The size and weight are a little above that of a point and shoot but again still a great way off a Digital SLR. But the features more than carry the price, weight and slight size issues. It still fits in your pocket, you don't need a case and the extra money spent will definitely make the camera last a bit longer.
Many of the manual features within this camera...

2001 Digital Futures
Review of Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S50 by
Scrote
Advantages: Pictures can be taken and deleted
Disadvantages: Expensive - needs a PC and HQ printer to achieve its best.
...I wanted a camera, where I could pick and choose the shots I wanted. The Sony Cybershot DSC S-50 gave me that option. The Cybershot does stuff that your standard camera can never do. With the Memory Stick you can go out and take up to 50 pictures, take them home, bung 'em on the computer and decide which ones you want or don't want. When you're on the ground, you can delete them, take alternatives or just go home.
If you buy the 8mb Memory Stick, or better, you can take higher resolution pictures, but beware, you need a higher resolution printer for them. With a 8mb stick you can take 150 photographs at low resolution and on your computer, they will look great. However, if you are after a higher quality of printed output, but don't have high quality printer, buy an ordinary camera.
When you're home, you can take out the memory...
