Less is without question more
Review of ThinkPad 240 C 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by  dobieg

Advantages: Small lightweight and very portable
Disadvantages: Relatively slow and no internal FFD or CD

...Notebook design is a compromise between 'built-in' features and portability - this one is very portable! In order to keep the system as small and as light as possible, IBM have pared this down to the absolute minimum, to the extent that it doesn't even have a floppy drive or CD in the case (these can be plugged in - if you need them) How small is small? - well - just a little bigger than the 10x8" screen, so it's certainly sub-A4. The result is a very small, very sexy colour notebook which is well up to most business tasks, and still draws envious looks when you pull it out at meetings! I've been using my 240X for around four months now, having abandoned my old desktop PC at work. The particular system I have is a TP 240x - model 2609-62G - that means it comes with a PIII 500MHz (256KB cache) 64MB RAM 12.0 GB 2.5" HDD 10.4... Read review

An 'estate car' of a notebook
Review of ThinkPad T20 PIII 750 MHz - 14.1" TFT by  dobieg

Advantages: Everything you would want is built in
Disadvantages: Large footprint, not light in weight

...IBM is to notebook computers what Volvo is to cars; well built, safe, surprisingly sporty, but rather expensive. As part of my new job, my trusty thinkpad 240x (see my other review) was replaced by an altogether more substantially built T20. There are two design concepts behind notebook computers; small and lightweight sub-A4 ultraportables, where the design is pared down to the absolute essentials, and ‘size of a cow’ desktop PC replacements. The T20 falls very definitely into the second category. Rather than list the manufacturer’s specifications (you can get those of the IBM site!) I’ll concentrate on the ‘usability’ of the machine. The first impressions is of a large format notebook (300mm by 250mm x 35mm) which is very, very black! – open it up, and you find a 360mm colour screen – this gives a sharp image, if a little... The IBM ThinkPad 240 - A sub-£200 gem?
Review of ThinkPad 240 C 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by  mattyprice4004

Advantages: Small size, Lights, Looks smart!
Disadvantages: Some say it looks bland, Small size limits functionality

...Watching the ICT market depresses me. Only a couple of short years ago I invested in the biggest desktop hard disk drive I could ever find - A roomy 120GB Seagate. Now we are up to 750GB, yet these cost only half of what I paid for my drive. The same is the story with the ThinkPad 240 - I remember when these were £1,699 brand new. Luckily I never bought one new, but I did receive one second hand a few months ago. This is probably my first review where I have a few serious issues with a product, as the 240 did leave a lot to be desired. But let's start with what's good. The first thing that will attract a lot of potential buyers to this laptop is it's diminutive size. It truly is amazing how IBM have managed to squeeze a full laptop into such a small case. The screen has a resolution of 800x600 pixels, which is enough for office... Read review

Thinkpad, now that's a thought!
Review of ThinkPad T20 2647 - PIII 650 MHz - 13.3" TFT by  a_t_b321

Advantages: Lightweight, protable, good for all business type applications
Disadvantages: poor stock specification, gets a little warm on your legs!

..., headphone and external microphone socket. The computer is loaded with cool design features, such as a built in microphone, small LED light for typing in dark areas and a 'ThinkPad' button for instant access to IBM support. The pointmouse is easy to use once you get used to it, and everything is well ergonomically designed and spaced. The front incorporates a scroll button for web page and document scrolling by holding a the button down. A battery monitor LED is clearly visible which changes colour dependant on battery life state. It is easy to change the specification of the computer, as the motherboard will accept upto a 1000MHz processor and 512MB of RAM. This offers a good all-round performance machine, ideal for small businesses or students. To change the parts in mine was easy, I downloaded the service manual directly from the IBM... Read review

So your looking for a reliable laptop then
Review of ThinkPad 600 X - PIII 500 MHz - 13.3" TFT by  GR-Design

Advantages: Sturdy, made by IBM
Disadvantages: Doesnt look all that good next to the likes of Sony

...In November last year, I bought an IBM ThinkPad 600 Laptop computer. It is second hand, but only just over a year old. It cost £500 incl VAT and this is what I got for my money? PII 300 Processor 64 MB Ram 5 Gig HDD 24x CD-Rom 13.3? screen 56K modem I needed a laptop for work, so was looking for something that isn't afraid of getting carted around. Now, I know that's the general idea of laptops, but these days they seem to be built to look good and not to be durable when carrying them around. That's fine if you leave your laptop on your desk all the time, but this needs to be carried around a lot, and in any case, I've got the desktop PC which sits on my desk! First of all, fashion conscious people will not like the IBM series of laptops. They are built to be durable and tough, not in the slightest to look good... Read review

...This phone has been hyped by phone enthusiasts ever since it was announced by HTC. This phone has been rebranded by the UK's leading network operators as follows: Vodafone V1605 Compact III Tmobile MDA Vario II Orange MPV M3100 The reason why this phone was so much anticipated by phone enthusiasts is simply due to its specifications. Look beyond the speed
Review of ThinkPad T21 2647 - PIII 800 MHz - 14.1" TFT by  A.Smith

Advantages: Lightweight, durable, great screen
Disadvantages: Quite slow compared to newer laptops

...I'm currently sitting here writing this review on my Thinkpad T21 laptop, which is great to use. I used to use desktops constantly and I only purchased a laptop about 8 months ago, I wasn't looking for anything lightning fast, just something for me to do work on (Microsoft Office, Browsing the Internet, etc). I decided to have a look for a low price laptop without a brilliant spec and I came across the T21. My T21 has an 800Mhz PIII processor, 384mb RAM and a 20gb hdd, nothing spectacular in todays high-speed world but it gets the job done without any problems, it doesn't struggle to run simple applications which don't require the fastest of all processors to do a simple task. The most outstanding feature of this laptop is definately the screen, it's the first screen I've seen on a laptop which can be viewed from most angles, it... Read review

COMPAQ ARMADA! I see no ships
Review of Compaq Armada M300 - PIII 500 MHz - 11.3" TFT by  grahamdavidcook

Advantages: Light weight tiny Laptop
Disadvantages: As it 2 or 3 years old a bit slow

...Drive, we looked at USB Drives from such places as Currys etc. but these looked bulky, Ugly and you need a floppy drive to load the Software drivers! as it was running Windows 98, it probably would have managed hadit been newer and running windows XP. On searching the internet I found a wonderful supplier called Laptopbits (www.laptopbits.co.uk surprisingly!) and we bought a brand new Mobile Expansion Unit complete with DVD Drive for £95 + Vat and only £2.50 postage! This unit fits onto the base of the laptop increasing the height of the closed unit from 2.2 CM to 4.4 CM still highly portable. The Computer is obviously slower than a new PC, but for £250 in total we are extremely happy with the purchase, and to see her face on Christmas morning was worth every penny. Fantastic workhorse
Review of ThinkPad T20 PIII 750 MHz - 14.1" TFT by  Boinng

Advantages: Very economic, very smart, well built, very capable
Disadvantages: Ageing now, limited processing power, no USB2 or inbuilt wifi

...'re talking about ports, check out the full set the T20 does enjoy, such as parallel printer, monitor, S-Video, and even an old-school serial port (more useful than you might think). The T20 was one of the most expensive notebooks you could possibly buy in 2000, and I paid £500 for mine three years ago, but now you can easily pick one up for less than £150 - that's fantastic value in my opinion. Although it's old, the build and component quality is such that you can be reasonably assured a used machine in decent condition will last you many more years - it might even outlast many of the flimsier models on the market today. If you decide to buy, look for one with the top spec - 750mhz processor, 512mb memory (very important), 20gb HDD. It's possible that the hard disk drive might be bigger than that, but only if it's had an aftermarket... Read review
