Advantages: A trustworthy Notebook from the creators of the PC

...I originally bought my Thinkpad as a starter for my partner as she reckoned they are easier to use. My reason was that it was small enough to put out of the way if she never used it. I bought it off E-Bay and apart from a small amount of worry with the screen getting damaged in transit paid £200 plus postage. It arrived well packaged and undamaged and to my surprise looking very good for an older model laptop. HARD DRIVE It came pre-installed with Windows XP Pro as it would have when new, and booted up quickly and very quietly. The 40gb hard disk is quite ample as it gives you plenty of space to install whatever anti-virus you require and enough space for applications for the average user. At the moment on this one I have a few of my favourite cds, some games, office 2007 and Photoshop 8, yet still have 20gb hard disk... Read review

This has similar properties to those just stated, but I'm told that they even work if you take the hard drive out and place it in another computer, so your data should be safe from your garden-variety thieves (It may not stand up to proper thieves). INPUTS/OUTPUTS This model has three USBs slots, a monitor out, a line out, and a mic in. It also has bluetooth and wireless radio. It does not have S-VIDEO, or infra-red. OS This ThinkPad comes loaded with Windows XP SP2 Professional, and says it is 'Vista Ready', but I think it isn't, unless you upgrade it. So, I was very interested to find out that nowadays, there are laptops that are specifically designed to ‘replace’ a desktop for those who want the space saving feature and would only need to take their laptop anywhere on the odd occasion. This means that the manufacturer can be less bothered about the weight of the machine and make it much more like the normal home system that the desktop has catered for in the past! Enter the Toshiba Satellite Pro A30. I hate to admit it, but the main thing that drew me to this model in the shop was the fact that its case is metallic dark blue. It really did stand out from the rest and I think it is a very classy looking machine. ...This was my first laptop, i needed something that i could work on durring my degree course away from the kids. As the desk top P.C. had more games on it than anything else I thought i should upgrade myself, and i dont think i will ever look back. It's a FUJITSU SIEMENS AMILO L7300 and as i have always like siemens products i was attracted to this laptop stright away, and what a bonus to get it for £400. I bought mine from COMET in Oxford about eight months ago and have since seen them in other shops such as CURRYS and TESCO and they are also going for around the £400 mark. ...hundreds of passwords but instead you now have a fingerprint, which nobody can forge, copy, or use, unless someone somehow manages to chop your finger off. But I believe that's very unlikely! The colour is sleek and quite nice although it would be better if it was available in a silver colour. And weighing approximately 1.8 kilograms, which is less than 2 bags of sugar, you can easily say that this is extremely light and if you want to take your PC tablet away from home, you easily can with no difficulty at all. Advantages: Fast 3.05GHz Processor

...preferred, Nero application. Admittedly, not transferring to disk as fast as my desktop PC but, then again, I never expected it to be. I needed the computer mainly for word processing and photo editing anyway, so having the facility to record to this media was just a useful add on to use as and when. The screen is a 15” TFT which is idea for working with graphics and being able to actually see what you’re typing. I use a 12” screen on another notebook and it really is a relief to then work on the Toshiba. The sound is better than the usual tinny sound from notebook computers with music sounding quite acceptable though, obviously, not anywhere near as good as from a desktop system with ‘proper’ speakers etc.. There are plenty of connections with the Toshiba A30-614 including firewire, USB2, PC card slot, audio out, TV out, network card... Read review
