Reviews of thinkpad r40e 2684 - c 2.4 ghz - 14.1" tft
The answer to a basic decent and affordable laptop
Review of ThinkPad R40e 2684 - C 2.4 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
alexscott
Advantages: IBM brand, simple recovery process, decent price
Disadvantages: Low specifications, battery life is questionable
.... In the end, you may just be plugged in all the time, which takes away the definition of laptop! Generic replacement batteries are available from eBay and the likes however you will find that you'll run into the same issues. We also had an issue with the AC power adapter which gave up on us. Another quick search online and we found a generic replacement.
The R40e comes with the standard connections required these days; USB, internal CD-RW, 10/100 ethernet, V92 modem, VGA as well as two PCMCIA slots. Note the absence of a firewire port. The graphics are also run by an ATI Radeon IGP card, which is better than the bog-standard Intel graphics cards normally shipped with some laptops. The 2.4Ghz Celeron processor does the required job of mathematics, but either a faster processor, or an Pentium processor, would have been better. The speed...

Work As You Move
Review of ThinkPad R40e 2684 - C 2 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
friedchris
Advantages: Write your own CD's, play DVD's, work on the move
Disadvantages: Not top of the range
...I am going to University this year, and I will need to do a hell of a lot of work. I will be travelling a lot to and from university and home as well. I thought to myself how can I combine the two and the idea of a laptop computer came to me. I wanted a cheap laptop which wasnt top of the range, but would satisfy all my needs. I was more than pleased with my buy!
To start with this laptop looks cool. It is completely black all over and has better design features than DiVinci himself could come up with. It looks slick and stylish and with measurements of 31.3 cm x 25.4 cm x 3.9 cm and a weight of 2.7kg it is light and small. This makes it excellent for travelling with. You hardly notice it in your backpack.
It has an Intel Celeron 2 Ghz which isn't too brilliant nowadays but satisfies all my needs of using broadband internet...

Thinking of a Thinkpad?
Review of ThinkPad T40p 2373 - Pentium M 1.6 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
nattinoo1970
Advantages: Light, flat and compact
Disadvantages: Being Black
...I had wanted a laptop for years but never had the courage to actually take the final step of buying one. Even after looking at countless different brands and models I still chose a desktop PC!
At a new job I was given a Thinkpad T43. I found it incredibly easy to use, and as I was splitting my time between the office and home was having to carry it around with me.
After months of using the laptop my desktop PC at home died and I decided to try and replace it with a Thinkpad. Because I was on a restricted budget and couldn't afford a new laptop I decided to see what was available second-hand. I was overjoyed to find a company on ebay that sells refurbished Thinkpads and bought mine a good couple of months ago. So I now have 2 laptops to use - 1 for work and 1 for personal use.
The Thinkpads are light for a laptop, very flat (a lot...

This machine is one of the newest brought out by IBM, which makes it something to look forward to. Well it is. I say this because I’m a person who develops websites, and using a piece of machinery like this did impress the judge. If you are a common Joe then, lets face it you won't be amazed.
The unit faces an awckward task of creating versatility, while still trying to impress everyone with the looks of a London double decker.
The 1.5 Ghz processor can handle almost anything that the world has to offer in terms of software developing or corporate dealings. The unit comes preinstalled with 256 SDRAM and a portable 40Gb hardrive. This makes it an ok item for home users, but again who would want this in their living room spoiling the view.
The 14.1" monitor has the capability...

On Xmas Santa gave to me......
Review of ThinkPad T30 2366 - P4-M 2 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
Spiders
Advantages: The most flexible and powerfull laptop out there
Disadvantages: the price
...I wish Santa would have left that little toy under the tree but no luck, maybe next year.
IBM as made a name for itself in the laptop insdustry for leading the pack. Their machines are all work, no fun though, which as made them a favorite for business users.
The Thinkpads T30s are IBM Thin-and-light series which is supposed to be a compromise between power and portability. Well in fact the only limit to the power you can have in this little thing is how deep your wallet is. the prices range from a 1500 L to 3500 L.
the difference is mainly the hard drive, the screen definition either 1400x1050 or 1024x768 (all models are 14.1" by the way) and the options (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, CD/DVD writer combo, ibm security chip) all in all in a neat little package of 2.5 Kg.
the top models are powered by an ATI Radeon 7500 with 16 Mb of dedicated...

IBM T41 LapTop
Review of Lenovo ThinkPad T41 2373 - Pentium M 1.6 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
tgrigg
Advantages: Robust fells and looks greats easy to move around with.
Disadvantages: Need more memory with it
...I have brought eight of these IBM T41 laptops, there specifcations our, 1.6 GHz Intel Pentium Processor, 256 MB of memory but with have brought extra ram for making in 512mb, it has a 40 GB hard disk drive, 14.1" TFT active matrix display with Microsoft Windows XP Professional and it weights about 2.3 kg Weight and battery life is about 4.7 hours. It also has built wireless which is pretty good you will have to update the driver on the wireless card first as the old driver ahas a little bug. Its supports Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet but if youhave wireless you need this and has a ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500 - 32 MB which is good and doesnt come up with any problems and it also has bluetooth capabilites to link your mobile to your laptop this will only work if you mobile phone has bluetooth built on it.

Latitude D600 - The tough laptop
Review of Dell Latitude D600 - Pentium M 1.3 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
Malone13
Advantages: Very robust, large screen & a solid performer!
Disadvantages: Fairly large and can get quite hot.
...I bought this laptop almost a year ago and have not had a problem with it to date. The design of the laptop is aimed at robustness and portability... all the hardware has been installed with the 'travelling salesman' at mind. I purchased this item as necessary equipment for my university course instead of buying a university recommended IBM ThinkPad. After much research I found that the IBMs tended to be a lot less reliable and the dell had good reviews all round - I have no been disappointed! The D600 does everything my home PC can do and more, with a lot less problems.
The laptop/notebook is not the cheapest out there but the value for money and quality of the product is excellent!
The only drawbacks I have found is that the hard-drive does get hot and you can feel this when you are typing; the heat is not uncomfortable however...

Just a nice laptop, really :)
Review of HP Pavilion ze4505ea - C 2.4 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
Ursssk
Advantages: Great laptop
Disadvantages: maybe a tiny bit slow
...extensive, and the one-touch keys at the top are very useful when working at full-pelt. And the touchpad mouse is also easy to use, plus it has an optional switch to turn it off for if you choose to use a USB mouse.
The only thing I found is it's maybe a little slow when starting up...but it's not too bad. And weight-wise I've seen heavier - and lighter - machines!
So all in all, like I said, it's a nice machine and I really can't fault it, especially at the price I paid for it (got a nice deal on e-Bay).
Note I haven't had to use manufacturer support - so I just said it was good!...
