Thinkpad, now that's a thought!
Review of ThinkPad T20 2647 - PIII 650 MHz - 13.3" TFT by  a_t_b321

Advantages: Lightweight, protable, good for all business type applications
Disadvantages: poor stock specification, gets a little warm on your legs!

...I purchased my Thinkpad T20 second hand for around £300. For this money, I got the original specification machine fitted with a CDRW/DVD drive, which is an optional extra for the later models. With the ultrabay 2000, it is possible to use a range of hardware, without having to re-boot the system. Optical drives, hard disk drives and batteries are some of the possibilities to name a few. These all work at lightning speed and are so simple to change between. The lightweight design, topped good performance are impressive. The screen is 13.3 inches and is a good size and resolution for a small laptop. It comes with all the ports for network, modem, parallel and com ports, 2 PCMCIA slots and a singe USB slot. It also has a mouse and external monitor port, Infra-red port, built in speakers of a good quality for a laptop and line in... Read review

Fantastic workhorse
Review of ThinkPad T20 PIII 750 MHz - 14.1" TFT by  Boinng

Advantages: Very economic, very smart, well built, very capable
Disadvantages: Ageing now, limited processing power, no USB2 or inbuilt wifi

...the battery I have is four years old and now giving around 60% of its original design capacity (as shown in the helpful IBM battery status app) I still get a couple of hours out of it. The design of this Thinkpad is second to none, with a titanium composite case which keeps it strong, while being smaller and lighter than many current machines. The keyboard is legendary, with great movement and comfort, and I much prefer it to my desktop. The Trackpoint pointer - or "nipple" mouse set into the keyboard - is also by and away the best pointing device ever invented for a laptop, and far quicker and easier to use than any touchpad. The "Ultrabay" is a brilliant idea too - a hot swappable bay for your choice of disk drives. Most T20's come with at least a DVD reader and a good old fashioned floppy disk drive (the standard kit on release) - but you... Read review

On Xmas Santa gave to me......
Review of ThinkPad T30 2366 - P4-M 2 GHz - 14.1" TFT by  Spiders

Advantages: The most flexible and powerfull laptop out there
Disadvantages: the price

...I wish Santa would have left that little toy under the tree but no luck, maybe next year. IBM as made a name for itself in the laptop insdustry for leading the pack. Their machines are all work, no fun though, which as made them a favorite for business users. The Thinkpads T30s are IBM Thin-and-light series which is supposed to be a compromise between power and portability. Well in fact the only limit to the power you can have in this little thing is how deep your wallet is. the prices range from a 1500 L to 3500 L. the difference is mainly the hard drive, the screen definition either 1400x1050 or 1024x768 (all models are 14.1" by the way) and the options (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, CD/DVD writer combo, ibm security chip) all in all in a neat little package of 2.5 Kg. the top models are powered by an ATI Radeon 7500 with 16 Mb... The IBM difference, Great value for ebayers.
Review of ThinkPad T23 2648 - PIII-M 1.13 GHz - 14.1" TFT by  David_Scutt

Advantages: A trustworthy Notebook from the creators of the PC
Disadvantages: Now a little out of date

...actually inhance your computer experiance. The keyboard light which is hidden above the screen, shines down onto the keyboard to let you see the actual keys. The titanium lid, prevents scratches and dents, you can physically drop the laptop, and it would still work, how many times have you dropped your laptop? Trust me it happens, how many mobile phones have little dents due to dropping? The unique keyboard allows you to have little coffee accidents. If you drop your coffee you just need to put the computer into hibernation, which turns the computer off without loosing the work your currently working on, then dry the computer, then begin using it again. Your data is safe! The Ultrabay 2000, is a cdrom drive, which you can swap for a floppy disc drive / dvd / battery / 2nd hard disk even when the computer is on. A very unique... Read review

The IBM ThinkPad 240 - A sub-£200 gem?
Review of ThinkPad 240 C 300 MHz - 10.4" TFT by  mattyprice4004

Advantages: Small size, Lights, Looks smart!
Disadvantages: Some say it looks bland, Small size limits functionality

...work and Internet browsing. Battery life is good at 2 hours, and the keyboard is up to the usual IBM quality, feeling firm yet responsive. Now on to a few things that need imporvement. The actual case of the laptop feels tacky and cheap, being entirely plastic. The small size of the unit means no internal drives are included, and I have yet to find an external bootable CDROM drive for my ThinkPad. If I want to install Windows I have to copy the entire Windows CD onto the hard disk, boot from a floppy diskette and then tell the Command Prompt where the installation files are. It really is a pain! The speed of the machine feels reasonable running Windows 98, but face it, we all want 2000 or XP. With any of these, the ThinkPad 240 really starts to drag, even with 192MB of RAM installed. The best way to make XP or 2000 run well is to have... Read review

Strong in any way
Review of ThinkPad T20 2647 - PIII 700 MHz - 14.1" TFT by  fjuk

Advantages: Silence, Sturdiness
Disadvantages: Swapable drives, all drivers needed

...The IBM T20 Thinkpad is the perfect choice for the non-gaming experience. I should say that you will find everything you need in this machine, unless you are in to firewire devices. As an example I should mention the Ultrabay to which you can even get a DVD-RAM drive (which by now is the newest technology). However. Never laptops are fitted with USB2 (faster version of USB) and some of them Pentium-M processors (longer battery life). The T20 runs perfectly with Windows XP, but you will have to install all drivers from IBM - especially the power management drivers, since you elseway will not be sure to return properly from stand-by mode. The rather old 440-chipset is running at it's best, and the speedstep is fully functional (that is: The PC uses the exact amount of CPU-power needed). Though the IBM TP X-series are way more... Think Smart, ThinkPad
Review of Lenovo ThinkPad R60e 0657 - Core Duo T2300E 1.66 GHz - 15" TFT by  Pyrokeet

Advantages: many unique features, robust, trustworthy
Disadvantages: more expensive than some brands

...I bought this laptop on insurance, as my previous ThinkPad was stolen and I loved it so much that I couldn't bear to buy a different brand. In my opinion, the Lenovo ThinkPad is the best laptop you could possibly buy for all-round performance, reliability, and features, but I will endeavour to make this review as unbiased as possible, and I will split it into different sections for easy reading. LOOKS/DESIGN We all know looks do matter, and the ThinkPad is nothing if not distinctive in design. Unusually amongst modern laptops, the ThinkPad does not have sleek silver curves everywhere. Instead, it is a matt black cuboid, with a nice texture. Some people may not prefer this, as I have been told "It looks like it's from the 80s", but the understatedness of the design is much less showy than most modern laptops, suggesting... Read review

The Lenovo X60 6364 The Good and the Bad
Review of Lenovo ThinkPad X60 Tablet 6364 - Core 2 Duo L7400 1.5 GHz - 12.1" TFT by  CoDuK

Advantages: Durable, Powerful, Good Tablet, Amazing battery life, Never overheats, quiet, expansion capabilities, small lightweight,
Disadvantages: old looking, bad graphics card, no CD/DVD drive, bad speaker position

...Personally, I have had a great experience with this laptop. I will start with the bad, which is only a few things, and then end with the good, which is LOADS of things. First of all, the looks, like all IBM ThinkPad's, it looks hideous, or that is what I think. It is black, and has this weird, dull material on the back, which makes it look very old, like a spectrum from 10 years ago. It has this HUGE battery at the back, which makes it look horrible, if you remove the battery looks much better. When you look at it, it does seem as if it is from the 90s, and I personally think that is partly down to the IBM logo, which looks old, and reminds you of the time where computers were merely command lines, and the only thing that came out of the speakers, were beeps. Also, the graphics card, is crap, that is really all I can say... Read review

Thinking of a Thinkpad?
Review of ThinkPad T40p 2373 - Pentium M 1.6 GHz - 14.1" TFT by  nattinoo1970

Advantages: Light, flat and compact
Disadvantages: Being Black

...I had wanted a laptop for years but never had the courage to actually take the final step of buying one. Even after looking at countless different brands and models I still chose a desktop PC! At a new job I was given a Thinkpad T43. I found it incredibly easy to use, and as I was splitting my time between the office and home was having to carry it around with me. After months of using the laptop my desktop PC at home died and I decided to try and replace it with a Thinkpad. Because I was on a restricted budget and couldn't afford a new laptop I decided to see what was available second-hand. I was overjoyed to find a company on ebay that sells refurbished Thinkpads and bought mine a good couple of months ago. So I now have 2 laptops to use - 1 for work and 1 for personal use. The Thinkpads are light for a laptop, very flat... Read review

Laptop Heaven
Review of ThinkPad T20 PIII 750 MHz - 14.1" TFT by  mc_bubba

Advantages: Titanium covers, light, fast.
Disadvantages: Burns a hole in your wallet, looks black and dull.

...is supported by Microsoft’s Windows 2000 Professional Second Edition. Weight Perhaps its most impressive feature is its weight. With titanium composite covers for both the top and bottom, it is one of the lightest laptops in the PC industry. Now you won’t have to worry about straining your hand when carrying it for long periods of time. In addition, its ThinkLight keyboard also decreases its overall weight. After all, it is the keyboard and covers that make the majority of a laptop’s weight. Service IBM offers a 3-year warranty for the ThinkPad T20, which is pretty good. Looks As I've already mentioned, I think the laptop itself looks a bit dull, but if you like black it'll be your cup of tea. But I long for someone to follow Apple's example and give us a Windows based laptop which actually looks good... Read review
