Review of ThinkPad X20 2662 - PIII 600 MHz - 12.1" TFT by
fathazza
Advantages: weight,price, features for the money
Disadvantages: fairly basic spec these days.
...i purchased a refurbished ibm x20 about sixth months ago from a 2nd hand IT retailer .
screen 12.1" 1024x768 tft
cpu , p3-600
ram - variable , 128-320mb
hdd- 20gb
graphics - 4mb ati chip
2x usb 1
1x pcmcia port
1x compact flash port
wieght . 1.4kg
Review: i bought the laptop primarily because i wanted a vaery light laptop and this one provided the best spec for the money.
Mine had 320mb ram, and i have installed windows XP pro on it which runs perfectly well on it, despite the relatively low power of the cpu.
The battery life is surprsingly good, (given the battery was not new) and i get between 2 and 3 hrs on it depending on settings and what programs i am running.
the machine is so light you hardly notice it in your bag, the screen is great and offers a nice 1024x768 which is perfect for the sie of the screen...

Timeless and Useful
Review of ThinkPad X20 2660 - PIII 600 MHz - 12.1" TFT by
pollybeanuk
Advantages: Light and Portable, Durable addable extras
Disadvantages: no cd/dvd writer (in mine) and nub mouse
...This ain't a new model, but you could easily pick this little portable on ebay or at a second hand shop for a small sum. A year or two ago I got mine for 350 pounds on Ebay secondhand (with DVD drive) but now they're going for just £219 buy it now with a CD drive.
So.. the best things in my opinion about this computer is that it's reliable, cheap and simple to use.
AESTHETICS
To me this is a classic style, simple and timeless. It would be difficult to tell the Thinkpad X20 from its more advanced siblings because they're all a similar style. Black, slim.
The CD/DVD drive and floppy drive are all in a separate base, which attaches easily with a click mechanism. With the base the thinkpad is about 3 times the width, but for my purposes I have found it easier just to carry around the laptop without the base and just email myself...

Review of Compaq Armada M300 - PIII 600 MHz - 12.1" TFT by
bumble_beez4
Advantages: everything!!
Disadvantages: a bit slow for playing the action games!
...on the right hand side on the outside.
~~~PRICE~~~
My parents brought this second hand off of E-Bay at £145 plus £18 postage but the only problem was it didn’t come with an external drive! My parents went searching everywhere for a CD or DVD drives but had no success so they brought one from Compaq. A MEU with a CD drive was £95 but luckily for me they sent the DVD one instead!! He he he!
When the MEU is attached to the laptop it doubles the thickness to just under 2 inches.
IBM Thinkpad X30 Pentium 3 1.2 ghz USED.
Review of ThinkPad X30 2672 - PIII-M 1.2 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
safariman72
Advantages: Small, light and well spec'd
Disadvantages: Replacement parts prices.
...I originally bought my Thinkpad as a starter for my partner as she reckoned they are easier to use. My reason was that it was small enough to put out of the way if she never used it.
I bought it off E-Bay and apart from a small amount of worry with the screen getting damaged in transit paid £200 plus postage.
It arrived well packaged and undamaged and to my surprise looking very good for an older model laptop.
HARD DRIVE
It came pre-installed with Windows XP Pro as it would have when new, and booted up quickly and very quietly. The 40gb hard disk is quite ample as it gives you plenty of space to install whatever anti-virus you require and enough space for applications for the average user. At the moment on this one I have a few of my favourite cds, some games, office 2007 and Photoshop 8, yet still have 20gb hard disk...
Portable by the meaning of the word!
Review of ThinkPad X23 2662 - PIII-M 866 MHz - 12.1" TFT by
fjuk
Advantages: Small, sturdy and easy to use.
Disadvantages: Lack of drives and TV-Out
...This is a beauty!
Bought this PC second handed as a replacement for my Thinkpad 240 (C300/192/12.0).
This PC is based on the same concept, but is faster, has a larger screen (12.1'' in stead of 10.4'') - and has a few upgraded key features.
As the TP 240 was able to hold a charge for ~6 hours when used for normal text writing, I was excited to see how long this baby would last. And as the battery was slightly used, I was amazed to learn that it lasts for more than 4 hours!
Speedstepping and other features are of course the reason for this.
The PC is nice to work with, the keyboard is a little smaller than that of a desktop PC, but it works great. It has - which the TP 240 didn't - an extra key, which enables me to use Danish keyboard setting (we have three more letters than e.g. English) - nice!
As always with portable IBM...
Thinkpad, now that's a thought!
Review of ThinkPad T20 2647 - PIII 650 MHz - 13.3" TFT by
a_t_b321
Advantages: Lightweight, protable, good for all business type applications
Disadvantages: poor stock specification, gets a little warm on your legs!
...I purchased my Thinkpad T20 second hand for around £300. For this money, I got the original specification machine fitted with a CDRW/DVD drive, which is an optional extra for the later models.
With the ultrabay 2000, it is possible to use a range of hardware, without having to re-boot the system. Optical drives, hard disk drives and batteries are some of the possibilities to name a few. These all work at lightning speed and are so simple to change between. The lightweight design, topped good performance are impressive. The screen is 13.3 inches and is a good size and resolution for a small laptop. It comes with all the ports for network, modem, parallel and com ports, 2 PCMCIA slots and a singe USB slot. It also has a mouse and external monitor port, Infra-red port, built in speakers of a good quality for a laptop and line in...
So your looking for a reliable laptop then
Review of ThinkPad 600 X - PIII 500 MHz - 13.3" TFT by
GR-Design
Advantages: Sturdy, made by IBM
Disadvantages: Doesnt look all that good next to the likes of Sony
...In November last year, I bought an IBM ThinkPad 600 Laptop computer. It is second hand, but only just over a year old. It cost £500 incl VAT and this is what I got for my money?
PII 300 Processor
64 MB Ram
5 Gig HDD
24x CD-Rom
13.3? screen
56K modem
I needed a laptop for work, so was looking for something that isn't afraid of getting carted around. Now, I know that's the general idea of laptops, but these days they seem to be built to look good and not to be durable when carrying them around. That's fine if you leave your laptop on your desk all the time, but this needs to be carried around a lot, and in any case, I've got the desktop PC which sits on my desk!
First of all, fashion conscious people will not like the IBM series of laptops. They are built to be durable and tough, not in the slightest to look good...
Little known but no doubts this years best bargain
Review of Acer TravelMate 345T - PIII 600 MHz - 12.1" TFT by
FrasierCrane
Advantages: price; durability; relaibility; speed; quality
Disadvantages: its Acer not IBM or DELL ?
...I am reviewing a 4xx series rather than a 3xx series.
I got a TravelMate 427 LC Pentium 4 2.5GHz 512MB CDRW/DVD Combo 15" Windows for around £900 with a 2 year warranty.
This replaced my new IPC laptop which was forever being repaired under warranty. My experience of 30+ repair times, which I understand are quite common "even with more expensive brands" lead me to Acer who offer a basic warranty of 2 years with a max 5 day repair turn around time. Do not be conned by the offer of extended warranties by other makes. My experience demonstrates that a warranty id worthless unless your repair is done quickly. Even with trading standards on your side, you don't get your laptop back any quicker. I had to buy an Acer as a backup but then I'm thinking why buy anything else. I may have preferred an IBM thinkpad but it was more than twice...
HP--- invent if you must.
Review of HP OmniBook XE2 - C 500 MHz - 12.1" TFT by
staron
Advantages: Low price- or should be by now.
Disadvantages: Not state of the art, but why should it be?
...The Omnibook XE2 is now an end of line model and the remaining ones can be found at favourable prices. Not being state of the art this laptop will suit people who need a mobile extension to a home PC at a reasonable cost. Power users will benefit from higher specification, higher priced machinery.
