IBM ThinkPad X41
Review of Lenovo ThinkPad X41 2525 - Pentium M 778 1.6 GHz - 12.1" TFT - with X4 UltraBase by
tartupets
Advantages: Extreme performace and user experience
Disadvantages: 128 mb graphics memory low performance
...IBM Thinkpad x41 with the Ultrabase is the best and most powerful laptop of its kind. 1.3 kg and with the 8 cell battery up to 6 hours operating time, it is mostly suited for travelers and collage students
Instead of the standard 512 mb of RAM, ive got the 1.5 GB installed, so it is faster and has better performance.
It has the touchpoint interface, which is the second best after the mouse because it is more precise than the touchPad.
The ThinkLight HDD protection is useful when you are traveling by bus or train because it suits itself to repeated bumps and allows the HDD run even with heavy vibration.
As suited to IBMs, there is a little light in the edge of the monitor, which is very good in the dark.
Especially I like the location of the processor cooling vent, which is on the side and keeps the processor cool even...

IBM Thinkpad X30 Pentium 3 1.2 ghz USED.
Review of ThinkPad X30 2672 - PIII-M 1.2 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
safariman72
Advantages: Small, light and well spec'd
Disadvantages: Replacement parts prices.
..., Built in modem and network card, 1 x infra-red port to name a few.
Yes it could probably do with more USB ports, even using the docking station doesn't give you any extra.
It comes with a USB dvd-rom\cd re-writer. A USB 3.5 floppy disk drive can be bought for about £10.
COMPLAINTS AND CONCERNS
My only complaint is when it has been on for a while the underside gets quite hot and for all it doesn't effect the performance of the unit, it can get quite uncomfortable at times.
My concern is a design one, if you have it on your knee, bed or anywhere that isn't a flat surface, then the air entry hole for the cooling fan on the processor can be blocked which isn't good.
RECOMMEND OR NOT
That would depend, it is a great little laptop. It would be suitable to the experienced user and for a beginner for its ease of use and ease...

***X series - Versatile & Flexible***
Review of Lenovo ThinkPad X41 Tablet 1866 - Pentium M 758 1.5 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
mightyd
Advantages: Swivel Hinge, Handwriting mode, Fingerprint Recognition, Awesome Features
Disadvantages: Expensive
...hundreds of passwords but instead you now have a fingerprint, which nobody can forge, copy, or use, unless someone somehow manages to chop your finger off. But I believe that's very unlikely!
The colour is sleek and quite nice although it would be better if it was available in a silver colour. And weighing approximately 1.8 kilograms, which is less than 2 bags of sugar, you can easily say that this is extremely light and if you want to take your PC tablet away from home, you easily can with no difficulty at all. The dimensions are stated above but to get an idea, it is slightly larger than an A4 piece of paper which couldn't be more of a perfect size.

Thinking of a Thinkpad?
Review of ThinkPad T40p 2373 - Pentium M 1.6 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
nattinoo1970
Advantages: Light, flat and compact
Disadvantages: Being Black
...I had wanted a laptop for years but never had the courage to actually take the final step of buying one. Even after looking at countless different brands and models I still chose a desktop PC!
At a new job I was given a Thinkpad T43. I found it incredibly easy to use, and as I was splitting my time between the office and home was having to carry it around with me.
After months of using the laptop my desktop PC at home died and I decided to try and replace it with a Thinkpad. Because I was on a restricted budget and couldn't afford a new laptop I decided to see what was available second-hand. I was overjoyed to find a company on ebay that sells refurbished Thinkpads and bought mine a good couple of months ago. So I now have 2 laptops to use - 1 for work and 1 for personal use.
The Thinkpads are light for a laptop, very flat...

Advantages: Robust fells and looks greats easy to move around with.
Disadvantages: Need more memory with it
...I have brought eight of these IBM T41 laptops, there specifcations our, 1.6 GHz Intel Pentium Processor, 256 MB of memory but with have brought extra ram for making in 512mb, it has a 40 GB hard disk drive, 14.1" TFT active matrix display with Microsoft Windows XP Professional and it weights about 2.3 kg Weight and battery life is about 4.7 hours. Why the Portege A200 is almost the best. Almost.
Review of Toshiba Portege A200 - Pentium M 725 1.6 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
Mandrake666
Advantages: Fast, upgradeable, extremely portable and super stylish
Disadvantages: Heatsink blocks up with dust easity, leading to overheating
...I have had several laptops, usually older ones and was given this one by my brother six months back. He'd used it continuously for about a year and it was showing its flaws but after a bit of tweaking it's been a dream, and believe me I'm no light user either!
Mostly I use it to develop software (Visual Studio 2005, C#, .NET) and have it weighted down with SDK's. But, I also edit video in premiere on it, and write music in Cubase with some hefty plug-ins running not to mention a Line 6 TonePort GX and amp modelling software
STRENGTHS
The Toshiba Portege A200 is one of the lightest, slimmest laptops you'll come across, but apart from a slightly poor graphics card it lacks nothing in features and is highly upgradeable. The run time is over 2.5 Hours on a fully charged battery and the 12.1" screen is 1024x768 resolution so although...

To Infinity and Beyond, Toshiba R200 Laptop
Review of Toshiba Portege R200 - Pentium M 753 1.2 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
skrg28
Advantages: Build Quality, Light, Small
Disadvantages: None as yet
...to the small screen but I have no had any woes there either. Leaving it running for hours on end seems to have no effect, no noisy fans and no excessive heat.
If you dig one of these out in the aiport lounge then your a god.
The one that really got me was the warranty. You get a full 3 year manufacturers warranty with the latop, something you would normally have to pay extra for from other manufacturers. Toshiba suppor is always 2nd to none for laptops. You also get a full set of manuals already installed on the PC along with a variety of backup applications that run on your behalf.

Advantages: Everything a laptop should be
Disadvantages: Uses an eraser head mouse pointer (not the favourite choice of everyone)

Software
**********
This personal computer comes with a bundle of software and a Toshiba Utility disk, which is helpful when you decide to wipe your hard drive clean and freshly install Windows XP, as some of the drivers that are needed are found on that
disk.
Windows XP is the operating system, and the mix of latest mobile technology and operating system coding, the two run together smoothly and make using this laptop fun and efficient. The laptop comes with a PDF document, which is very useful in helping make the most of your new Portege M100.

Best value tablet / laptop hybrid
Review of Toshiba Portege M200 - Pentium M 725 1.6 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
gothicbob
Advantages: Price, Build quality, Features
Disadvantages: Quite old now, Not fast compared to newer laptops, No CD drive
...This laptop is has by far one of the most original designs I have ever had the pleasure of using. The screen rotates 180 degrees and the folds down and locks to become a tablet computer.
It contains a digitiser which should not be confused with a touchscreen computer, the laptop will only respond to a special pen. The pen stylishly slides out of the side of the laptop with a cool push to release mechanism.
The screen resolution is unbelievably high for the size of the screen. Its resolution is 1440x900 (the default res for 19" monitors) and screen size is 12.1". The only problem with having such a high res on a small screen is that your icons and text becomes quite small and sometimes unreadable but you can easily change the text size
Unlike a lot of laptops around it doesn't get ridiculously hot whilst running for a few hours...
