Advantages: Dark, gritty & enthrawling
Disadvantages: A bit slow at times

...This Is England is the very successful British drama released 27th April 2007. It?s rated 18 as it contains extremely strong language, violence & racism. This Is England runs for approximately 101 minutes. It had a budget of £1,500,000 & grossed an estimated $8,069,240 at the box office. The film was extremely well received by the critics, infact around 93% of them gave the film a good review. The 18 rating became controversial as this film is mainly aimed at teenagers, however despite the controversy the film remained an 18 rating instead of being overturned to a 15. Advantages: Thomas Turgoose, British, nostalga, powerful, thought provoking

Meadows also draws an interesting conflict within the skinhead culture: "The Gang" are relaxed, enjoyable company, with an interest in the fashion and music; however, Combo invades the scene, and is seen as a vile, angry skinhead, who preys on the minds of the young people around him for belief in his own misguided sentiments. The semantics of nationalism and racism are particularly eye-opening in This is England, which at times make even the viewer think twice. This is a good book

Advantages: Simple story
Disadvantages: none

...'t tell, and dog saying in a speech bubble "I will". We like the dog- he is quite a cheeky thing! And in the middle of the night, boy wakes up and asks bear if he is ok. Imagine his surprise when bear asks when they can have their next day out!! ~~Text and Illustrations~~ Worthy of a mention, the text starts every double page spread with "This is?" The only reason every one isn't the same is that one of the spreads is a sentence continuation of the spread before. So, consequently, it's a great book for anyone wanting to teach children "This is?" They will soon figure out the pattern and anticipate the start of the sentence, which is great news for increasing their confidence with reading. The sentences are simple, and don't get bogged down into complex sentences. We find out who is the important character for that double page spread...

...seems a bit strange how it was given to us with her age in mind, if it was smaller it would be better. I have just read the back of the book and it says 'little ones will love learning about their faces and smiling into the mirror at th eback of the book'. I thought have I missed something?? So have looked at the back of the book and there definitely is no mirror there. I'm not sure whether it means a literal mirror that SHOULD be at the book but is missing in mine? Or if it means that the pictures on the last page are like a mirror? Whatever it means it isn't clear. I read it as a literal interpretation and so would be expecting a mirror at the back. Conclusion This book was given free so I can't complain! If I had have paid money for this I would have felt like I had been wrongly informed about the mirror issue! I think that...

This is England - This is Great English Cinema

Advantages: Poignant, powerful, great performances, great setting
Disadvantages: Not for you if you like beautiful film stars or if you don't like swearing

...feeling in your throat that you get when you're watching a moving film! Shaun's grief at losing his father is palpable in several of the scenes and is played out in both quiet moments in the film between him and his mother and in angry outbursts. Combo invites all the skinhead gang around to give them the speech on his cause and invite them to sign up with him. As he is ranting about the Falklands and the poor b*****ds that are dying over there for no good reason, Shaun flies at him angrily and then dissolves into tears (I nearly did too!). How much more black could this be? and the answer is none.

Advantages: You can turn this one all the way up to 11.
Disadvantages: Unfortunately this is not a real band.
