Glasgow Thistle - Never again!

Advantages: Pleasant Staff
Disadvantages: Small rooms, dirty, run down, expensive and very limited menu.

...I have just spent eight weeks at the Glasgow Thistle Hotel. They were the worst eight weks of my life so far and it was all down to the hotel. On our first night at the hotel, our group arrived at about 1am in the morning after a flight delay. The night staff quickly and efficiently allocated us our rooms which were located on the first floor. As i got into my room, i was aware of a groaning noise coming from the window area. On looking out the window, i realised that our rooms were next to the hotels air conditioning units. I was so tired at this point that i did not request to be moved, as i was being picked up for my course at 8.30 am. the room was equipped with two single beds, which appeared slightly smaller than standard. I got into the first one only to realise that the matress was so old that i had sunk into the middle of it...

Thistling in Bristol

...I’ve just come back from my 6th stay at a Thistle Hotel this year. This is because I have a mad passion for travelling up and down the country staying in various hotels that belong to the Thistle chain; quite fascinating once you get into the swing of things. I love the same old set out of the rooms and same old extortionist prices that always seem to equal horrible tasting food. Not convincing? Ok, well the truth is the company I work for (ICL) has negotiated some kind of contract with Thistle hotels (unfortunately), which means that if I ever go away on a business trip then my first choice should be a Thistle Hotel as we’ll get accommodation cheaper than a normal individual off the street. A Great Hotel

Advantages: Easy to find, great base for sightseeing

...Just back from 3 nights stay in this hotel. Firstly, it was very easy to find you can actually see it from the A9 so whether you care arriving from the North or the South it is just minutes from the slip road off of the A9 taking you into Inverness. The hotel has its own large car park, which is free. My first impression from the outside was that it looks a bit run down. The outside probably needs a lick of paint and is a bit dated but once inside I was pleasantly suprised. You enter into a large reception area, to the right of you there is the large restaurant and to the left is the large bar. The reception was very well kept, clean and welcoming and 100% to the reception staff would could not have been friendlier. Booking in took only a few minutes and was very easy. Disadvantages: Paper thin walls

The Thistle Islington is situated on Kings Cross Road just a stones throw from Kings Cross mainline station (with St. Pancras next door) and the Kings Cross Thameslink station. At weekends Kings Cross Road tends not to get too busy because it leads to the business area of Holborn, etc which is quieter on those days. Just across the road there are a couple of Japanese restaurants and a convenience store which also sells magazines and newspapers. ...Relaxation amongst the hustle and bustle of Kings X. Having been on Julie’s travelling road show and living out of a suitcase for the last two weeks , I must admit that I was glad to be back in London (instead of Norfolk) and in a name brand Hotel. I guessed that parking was a problem at the Kings X Thistle and had contacted their enquiries department by e-mail to arrange for parking. I was delighted by the fact that within one hour confirmation that a space had been reserved for me was received by e-mail. No mention of the £12.50 per night charge though (but we can’t have everything and I wasn’t being billed!) I got lost travelling from Romford to the hotel despite using their web site for a route planner which was very thorough and literally told me every single road to go down. Thistle without being prickled!!

Advantages: Close enough to Liverpool's attractions
Disadvantages: Limited if any car parking

...This is a large hotel with over 200 rooms including some suites and is located on the Pier Head next to the famous Liver Buildings. The main drawback is there is no on site parking facilities and the hotel's allocated parking slots are about a 5 minute walk from the hotel or there are NCP car parks close by. The reception is bright and airy with extremely pleasant staff welcoming you when you check in. This process is quick and you are soon directed to the bank of 3 lifts to access your floor and room. One of the lifts was a little tempremental and the doors would not close as soon as you got out to try another the doors closed and the lift went scuttling off to another floor!! Our room was very clean and welcoming and overlooked the river Mersey. The facilities included an ironing board and iron, hidden inside a purpose built...

THISTLE BE MY ROOM THEN!

Advantages: Great location, luxurious
Disadvantages: Overpriced if you cannot grab a bargain

...On choosing a hotel I tend to go for nice architecture and/or a historic building which has lots of interest, nooks and crannies to explore and rooms which you know you shouldn't go in but you do, however, after finding no available accommodation like this at short notice in London and needing to book quickly I opted for what seemed the next best option, the Thistle Tower which overlooks Tower Bridge in London, (like you hadn't guessed) Getting there from Kings Cross seemed like a hike but the tube takes you there after 2 changes at Bank and Monument to Tower Hill in around 10 minutes. (Circle or District lines will take you there).
