...Thomas the Tank Engine has been a firm favourite with little boys (and girls!) for generations and my youngest son is another firm fan, singing along to the TV theme tune and possessing a range of books, toys and other merchandise emblazoned with images of Thomas and his friends. It seemed a natural choice to treat him to a Thomas trike for his second birthday, combining his love of all things Thomas related with his desire to be on wheels and keep up with his big brother! This particular trike is manufactured by MV Sports and seems to be of very good quality and not too badly priced. Prices vary from around the £40-£50 but I found the cheapest method was to purchase it from Littlewoods online and take advantage of a rather generous new customer discount code which knocked £25 off the price. He is really into reading and I have found it difficult to read with his paper books as he often tried to reach out and scrunch up the pages. With board books of course he can't do this and this one is just like that. Noisy Surprise is a board book with sound buttons that can be pressed to make all different noises relating to the pictures. Throughout the story when a sound effect is needed there will be a symbol relating to that of one of the buttons on the right hand side of the book this can be pressed easily to make the story itself really come to life. ...are made of less tough cardboard however and are prone to being bent and folded. In total there are 10 different lift up flaps each showing a picture that corresponds to the buttons at the side. Down the right hand side of the book, there is a large plastic section that holds all of the buttons with pictures on and there are 10 buttons in all. The pictures on the buttons match the pictures that are underneath the flaps inside the book and also scattered in between words throughout the book. The buttons are easy to press even for small fingers like Jack. The story is very simple and tells of how Thomas along with Rosie and Billy head to the docks to find their haul for the day only the freights that they are meant to pick up are now where to be seen. Basically it follows the same construction of the other Tomy's Thomas sets: some balls walking around in Thomas, Percy and the gang. It is good to know that even if tracks are compatible with the other Tomy sets this set is not expandable as every track is different having jagged surfaces or raised which makes the little wheeled engine box follow a certain course, back and forth with more or less speed. The little car has a switch, which changes polarity in the engine, going either direction. It also has some stopper which holds it on the ditch in the track.
