"A really useful engine"
Review of Lego Duplo Play Sets Thomas & Friends James at Knapford Station by
piggypine
Advantages: Great learning toy
Disadvantages: Comes with limited track meaning you need all the other sets.
...First I should say that the picture above is of Percy the mail train at the water tower not of James at Knapford bridge.
My son was introduced to Thomas The Tank Engine just before Christmas 06, i'd been reluctant to introduce him to it as I felt he was a little young but as soon as he saw the trains he was hooked, at 2 years old he had already dedided trains were his thing.
Thomas the tank engine started out as a series of books wriiten for the authors son. It later became a toy range and TV cartoon. It has seen many additions and modernisations but it's appeal is still the same. The Lego Duplo train series is just one of the many styles of Thomas The Tank available and here I will tell you about the James option.
James is the bight red engine from the series, he is the only red train because he is a combined engine, he...

Tis the Season to Play Lego
Review of Lego City Advent Calendar by
ciaomeister1
Advantages: It's Lego!!
Disadvantages: Not Cheap!!
...Continuing on my quest to review all things Christmassy, here I am with Advent review number 2. So with my deepest apologies to all those bah humbuggers out there, may I invite you back to Beckie's grotto. Why don't you pull up a chair, help yourself to a glass of warm mulled wine, and a mince pie (Marks and Spencers with a dusting of icing sugar to make them look homemade).
This year, as always, my children have been well and truly spoilt by their Grandparents. In a departure from traditional or even chocolate Advent calendars they have both been given rather posh Advent calendars. Shortie has a Playmobil one, and big brother "Small Fry" (aged 7 and a half!) has a Lego Advent calendar.
When I was little I always had an Advent calendar to count down the days to Christmas, but mine were cardboard and had little pictures of robins...

Lego, legis, legit...
Review of Lego by
Kukana
Advantages: Long-lasting, wide appeal, versatile, creative
Disadvantages: Somewhat expensive
...Lego, at its most basic, consists of brightly coloured building blocks which snap together to form reasonably strong walls or other constructions. When I was a child, in the 1960s, there was not much more to it, and although I had a few pieces of Lego furniture, it didn't hold my interest for long. I can remember my brothers building cars and garages and playing all kinds of ingenious games, while I read books and thought of it as a 'boy' toy.
So when I had two sons of my own, I assumed they would play with Lego. Sure enough, they seemed to gravitate to it whenever they saw it, and by the time they were about three or four, were beginning to collect it themselves.
* Modern Lego sets *
Lego has changed enormously in the past 35 years. It's no longer merely coloured bricks with a few windows, doors and wheels; now it comes...

Join the Lego craze
Review of Lego Magazine by
chocliteclair
Advantages: Full of fun stuff for Lego fanatics
Disadvantages: Only issued once every 3 months
...Both of my kids not only love Lego but they love magazines and so to find a combination of the two was a bonus.
I logged on to the Lego web site out of curiosity one day just to browse around and saw that you could sign up to receive free Lego magazines. This entails a free magazine sent to you every 3 months that is filled from cover to cover with everything “Lego” and the bonus being that you’re not limited to ‘one’ per household so if, like me you have more than one child, they can each sign up and receive their own copy rather than having to share, god forbid!
HOW TO SIGN UP
Visit www.lego.com click on the link ‘free Lego magazine’, select your country and download a form to fill out and post or you can call the relevant telephone number, couldn’t be easier! This free subscription is offered for 2 years.
You can...

Lego - Can I think of a better title? No!
Review of Lego by
andersonfamily
Advantages: Fun, creative, historic, durable
Disadvantages: Some funny bricks, costly
...Lego... perhaps the best toy of the 20th Century, and certainly the most popular one. Adults (apparently) and children play with Lego, construction buildings, scenes, decorations and nearly everything else using small, durable plastic bricks.
Lego's legacy began in 1932 in Billund, Denmark with a joiner named Ole Kirk Christiansen. He made ironing boards, stepladders and WOODEN TOYS.
In 1934 he named his product LEGO from the Danish words: Leg godt (play well), strangely in Latin LEGO means 'I put together'
In '42 the factory burnt down, however the company (small back then) rebuilt it.
~The idea~
People put Lego brick together to make constructions. The plastic brick are to represent building bricks.
Constructions can be of many things, everything from err... art to buildings. A page even exists on Lego...

Star Wars Lego - Perfect
Review of Lego Model AT-AT Star Wars by
thespurs
Advantages: It's Lego and it's Star Wars! Great Price
Disadvantages: Zilch
...---Introduction---
I have been bought up on Lego from the age of three of four. I have always retained my love of Lego and over the years, I have compiled a large amount of different Lego. I have had everything from towns to spaceships and trains to Star Wars Lego. I always wanted to be a Lego designer from a young age, as I used to build my own models from pieces of Lego from different sets.
In the last few years, I have bought a lot of Star Wars Lego, because it is Lego and I absolutely love Star Wars. I have every Lego Technic model available in the Star Wars theme and many others. In this review, I will talk about the AT-AT walker, that can be seen in the original Star Wars films, on the snow planet of Hoth.
---About the AT-AT---
The AT-AT walker, or the All Terrain Armored Transport, is a four-legged fighting vehicle...

Lego Crossroads
Review of Lego Building Plates: Straight & Crossroad Plates by
mumsymary
Advantages: Good adition to Lego roads.
Disadvantages: None
...There are masses of Lego sets available that I could tell you about because I have work with children many years and Lego is always a popular construction set to have in child care /school situations. Lego is also a popular toy at home for children to play with too.
Children love to build play scenes with Lego constructing buildings or building vehicles. To help make the scene there are base plates available some with just studs on to build the houses onto others like these are road ways to drive Lego cars on these base plates also have studs around the flat road so that your child can use Lego bricks to make road side scenery or houses.
Lego Straight & Crossroad plates item number 7280.

The road base plate I am talking about today is the Lego Straight & Crossroad plates item number...

A toy which just doesn't lego!
Review of Lego by
razor_2006
Advantages: Stays with you all your life
Disadvantages: Takes up quite a bit of space...
...Lego is not deemed just for people who are below the age of ten, indeed a great many people I know have not only being making lego again and again for many years, but have enjoyed it as much as when they first made it. It does become addictive once you start building, and especially if you've got a whole pile of Lego buildings and vehicles perched in your cupboard, one ends up getting the whole lot and out and re-building it.
Okay, it might not appeal to those who maybe are a whole generation older than the age specifications on the box, (which usually seem to be 5-12 years), or for those who make real things as a job or for fun. However if you're not in either of those categories then Lego can happily while away many hours in the day and once completing a model you do still get that same feeling of satisfaction, which is what it...

Turning a corner with lego
Review of Lego Building Plates: T-Junction & Curved Road Plates by
mumsymary
Advantages: Promotes more opportunity for play and learning
Disadvantages: none
...Lego T junction and curved plate.
Well you won't get far on your Lego road unless you have a curved plate to turn corners, or a T junction you turn the road to another destination,
We have quite a large collection of Lego at work that includes at least 1 curved section and t junction.
Road sections of Lego create more play opportunities for children and their Lego vehicles so a good circuit of road is an asset to a Lego collection.
Lego sell 1 curved section and one T junction together for £5.99p at the Lego shop http://shop.lego.com/product/?p=7281.
Its £9.24 at http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xDN-toys- -buildingsetsandblocks-buildingsets-tolegothemeslegotown
Lego road pieces are thin squares of stiff plastic too difficult to bend.
These pieces or road are a grey black with white road markings on. On the junction...

Jurassic Park was made using LEGO
Review of Lego by
RobinLawrie
Advantages: Read Opinion
Disadvantages: None
...I remember the days when building blocks were made of wood. Stack them up and knock them down, and believe me, there are only so many ways different ways that you can do that. Then in 1932 along came a Danish carpenter called Ole Kirk Christiansen. His firm manufactured stepladders, ironing boards and wooden toys. Thinking no doubt that there must be a better way to entertain children, he invented the word LEGO. Born out of the two Danish words "LEg GOdt" it means, "play well" in English.
In 1949, he was the first in Denmark to experiment with plastic moulded toys and from this was born the plastic LEGO brick, as we know it today. Initially it was only intended for sale in Denmark, but the idea was so revolutionary, that soon it had spread worldwide and eventually was hailed as. "Toy of the Century" by the British Association...
