Thomson Gold Holiday - Atlantica Imperial, Kolymbia, Rhodes

Advantages: Fab hotel, Fab location in quiet, safe harbour
Disadvantages: Not 5 star, and not 'all inclusive'

...Anyone deciding to venture out to Rhodes has a lovely trip ahead of them - our hotel of choice, the Atlantica Imperial Hotel, was fantastic and the location was stunning. However, despite Thomson advertising their 'Gold' holidays as a 5 star 'all inclusive' option, my partner and I felt that our trip was, on many occasions, not at all '5 star' and more importantly, distinctly not 'all inclusive'. The holiday cost us over £2,000 for the week and yet despite treating ourselves to a luxury 'all inclusive' break, we found ourselves hounded with 'little extras' added on to our final bill: 1. Sunbeds we found finding a sunbed around the pool area impossible (unless you are prepared to get up at 6am every morning to reserve one), so spent most of our time on the beach - where sunbeds are not free! 6 euros per day for two sunbeds...

THOMSON... Super for Families

Advantages: Lots of Choice, lots to do
Disadvantages: Not many free child places.

...We decided that we wanted a summer holiday abroad this year and picked up a Thomson Brochure. Thomson are a well known holiday operator and have been operating for as long as I can remember. Since they opened a Lunn Poly near us we have been picking up their brochures instead of the usual JMC ones. Thomson offer a variety of holidays such as Superfamily, Gold, Platinum, summer sun, a la carte, small and friendly, faraway shores, Greece, turkey, cruise, alfresco, Florida, freestyle, weddings in paradise, beach club. The Superfamily one interested me as it was all geared at a family holiday. They choose so many hotels with families being in mind and often these hotels or apartments are where families only can go or for couples only. They also own Skytours so when you get to your destination you will find the Thomson staff grouped...

Thomson Destiny - Tropical Transatlantic

Advantages: Price, All inclusive Option, transatlantic crossing
Disadvantages: lower level engine noise, tired cabins - could do with a refit

...Thomson Destiny -Tropical Transatlantic Dec 2008 We booked this cruise in October 2007 and obtained an all inclusive deal as our last cruise cost us an extra £600 pound, mainly in drinks costs! We had previously cruised with Thompson last year on the Celebration and think that I actually prefer the layout of the smaller sister ship for a number of reasons, which I will probably touch on later in the review. The early flight from Manchester to Lisbon was on time and uneventful but on arrival at Lisbon I could only describe organised chaos. In all 5 flights had arrived from the UK with cruise passengers and all landed within a very short space of time and due to a malfunction of the baggage handling system, all the luggage arrived for all the planes at the same time, which had a knock on effect on the rest of the usual embarkation...

Thomson Long Haul

Advantages: in flight entertainment, reasonable price
Disadvantages: not great service, delays, comfort

...Having read other reviews of Thomson flights and spoken to friends who have also flown with Thomson I must say I was quite skeptical about booking with this company. I was partricularly concerned as it is a ten hour flight to Cancun and if the service and facilities weren't up to scratch it would be a nightmare. I will start with the good points, which I have to admit, are fewer than the bad points. The in flight entertainment was certainly up to scratch with a good selection of films, television shows and games all contained within the seat back on a touch screen monitor. The entertainment package could also be upgraded for a small fee of five pounds! Whilst I wouldn't say the food was a particular strong point, it was definitely passable, however, I am surprised Aldo Zilli has put his name to it. I found leg room adequate. Now...

...It is only yesterday that I flew from Alicante to Manchester with Thomson Fly. This was my first time with them since they have changed from britannia, and I have to say I was impressed. We never buy package holidays, and flew out to Spain with monarch, so this was only a one way flight. I have to say that all in all I was quite impressed... THE PLANE... Our plane was a boeing 767-300, which I had been on once before when I flew from palma to manchester with britannia, so I knew how big they were. The seats were of a 2-4-2 formation, which I am fine with so long as I am not sat in and of the middle two seats as I like an isle or window. The plane was the largest in their fleet though they do have others, all boeings. Personally I have problems with my ears when landing on planes, however these problems seem much lesser when I am...

Flying with Thomson - Birmingham - Cancun

Advantages: None whatsoever
Disadvantages: several, as detailed.

...on the return flight (11 bites in all). The so called extra legroom is a joke, some two inches with seats so narrow they hurt. Thomson, you do not deserve patronising. I and many many others on that particular flight (B'ham - Cancun) will never fly with you again. Your planes are a disgrace to the airline industry, as are your staff. If you think that this review is untrue, or unfair then sue me. I would look forward to my day in court with you. I have the e-mail addresses of many others on the flight....

Thomson SUPERfamily holidays

Advantages: Kids Clubs mean restful holidays for Mum and Dad
Disadvantages: Not a luxury holiday....Butlins with sun!!

...We have a 6 year old son who needs to be amused all the time and so the priority for our family holidays has to be somewhere that he can go and be amused while we have some adult time to ourselves. We found this on a Thomson Superfamily holiday. We booked through www.Thomson.com and were able to choose our accommodation and flights separately at a reasonable price. My only complaint was that although you could pay your deposit online, Thomson asked that you ring a premium rate phone number to pay your balance (I posted a cheque!!) The flight was fine and my son appreciated the sweets with the kids meal. In flight food cost extra but I thought this was worth it as the food was nice and very reasonably priced when the only alternative was food bought at the airport....you can't bring a packed lunch through security. Thomson Celebration Red Sea Magic : Fabulous Cruise

Advantages: Fantastic sights, great food, excellent service and value for money

...My first ever cruise experience was the Red Sea Magic itinerary on the Thomson Celebration in November/December 2007. I was travelling with a friend as a reward for completing a very demanding project at work and we picked the Red Sea Magic cruise as we both fancied seeing Egypt and the Pyramids. We booked three weeks before departure and paid £489 each for an outside cabin on deck 1. The price included flights from East Midlands Airport, transfers, cabin and full board which I thought was an excellent deal for such short notice. The flight was due to depart at 10.30am and after some minor traffic issues on the A50 we arrived at the airport just after check-in opened. There was a stand just before the check-in desk marked 'Thomson Cruises' where we were given a luggage tag with our cabin number on it, as well as security stickers...

Is Thomson still Thomson?

Advantages: I beleive they are still the best at what they do.
Disadvantages: Can be expensive

...Again I will start this review by saying that I am employed by TUI UK the company who own Thomson holidays. I was originally employed by the Thomson Travel Group, the company was the taken over and has now evolved to become part of the world of TUI, the largest tourism company in the world (so I am told). The actual idea behind the world of TUI concept is actually very good. They aim to be present at every stage in the customer holiday from where they book, who they fly with, where they stay and every other step in the package holiday process. Therefore the plan is you book your holiday in Lunn Poly, you fly with Britannia airways (soon to become Thomson airways) and they you stay in one of the many hotel chains which the company operates. It has actually got to the point where no matter where you go you can't escape the TUI...

Ancient Empires - Thomson Calypso

Advantages: Excellent itinery, well organised tours
Disadvantages: Poor service and facilities onboard

...The Thomson Calypso is the latest addition to Thomson's cruise fleet. It is the smallest Thomson ship, and is an 'adults only' ship. It has everything you would expect from a cruise ship: restaurant, informal dining, shops, a beauty salon, bars, a gym, sundeck, and pool. At over £100 per night Thomson cruises are not especially cheap, and the brochure promises personal service and plush facilities. Having previously cruised with Thomson on Celebration, I must admit to being sceptical when I read the numerous poor reviews of Calypso on various websites. Having now cruised aboard Calypso I am forced to admit that previous reviewers were absolutely right. Thomson promise a more personal style of service aboard the 'intimate' Calypso. The atmosphere amongst guests was certainly pleasant, but a relatively low ratio of staff to guests...
