Taking the mystery out of the thriller club!
Review of The Mystery & Thriller Club by  purplelynne

Advantages: Cheap books initially
Disadvantages: Not much choice

...I have been a member of The Mystery and Thriller Club for a few years now, although this has not been a not continuous membership. I have joined, resigned, then joined again and again... I’m obviously a sucker for punishment or a lover of a bargain, I don’t know which! I usually sign up for the club again when they send me an offer through the post, which is too good to miss. It usually involves buying 5 to 6 books for a tiny amount of money. I chose 6 books, got a free blue holdall/weekend bag and a piece of card masquerading as a bookmark, as my free gift (this was because I had ordered my books online) all for under £5! Bargain you may think, but there is a catch. You are then committed to buying four more books. This seems fine at first, until you realise that you have to buy one book every month, which is sent to you via the club... Read review

mystery thriller magic
Review of The Mystery & Thriller Club by  carolannjo

Advantages: great introductory offers, available online or post
Disadvantages: need to remember to choose a book or reject editors choice

...grace is that usually the editors choice will be something you'll actually be interested in reading as they are usually the latest mystery/ thriller releases. It is also one of the most easily accessible clubs via internet post or telephone (and you definately CAN speak to a human on the telephone as the very last option once it toggles through all the choices is to speak to customer services). My only complaints are the time it takes to send you your books, I've waited upwards of 28 days so if you're in a hurry or want a particular book for holidays etc need to order it well in advance. Also the amount they charge for postage and packing is a bit steep. One last thing is depending on who delivers the books, as on occasion mine have been left in full view on my front step by the courier and on another my neighbours books were left in MY... A live CD of Jeff Buckley
Review of Mystery White Boy - Jeff Buckley by  iamasadlittleboy

Advantages: Jeff Buckley, Live, Godly, Music
Disadvantages: Short

...In this live album Jeff does some of his Grace songs, some covers and some songs that to my knoledge never got released as a studio recording. Mystery white boy, the tours of 95-96 is a CD covering Jeffs unsatiable appetite for his own live music. He had a knack of never doing a song the same more than once, This is shown in effect by listening to his other live albums (such as "Live at sine"). Track Listings 1. Dream Brother 2. I Woke Up In A Strange Place 3. Mojo Pin 4. Lilac Wine 5. What Will You Say 6. Last Goodbye 7. Eternal LIfe 8. Grace 9. Moodswing Whiskey 10. The Man That Got Away 11. Kanga Roo 12. Hallelujah/I Know It's Over (medley) Dream Brother, is a song he recorded for grace, and he belts out an extended version with a 2 min 30 second intro to such a buckley loved classic. 9/10 I... Jeff Buckley - magic!
Review of Mystery White Boy - Jeff Buckley by  Penny2212

Advantages: vibrant, exciting, interesting, with a whole range of songs
Disadvantages: none, except that it's on a disc, and never will be truly live again

...'s a collection of songs performed by Jeff Buckley on his Mystery White Boy tour from 1995 to 1996. With songs live from Lyon to Melbourne, Seattle to Hamburg, he doesn't falter once. This album captures what he was like on stage; he had a raw, vibrant energy, and put so much passion into his performances, and it all comes through on disc. I only discovered Jeff Buckley after his death, and Mystery White Boy gave me and millions of other fans a chance to hear what he did best. Performing live, he was magical, and now that magic will never die.... Read review

Supernatural Thriller
Review of Revelation - Revelation by  jonwhite

Advantages: great film easy to follow plot
Disadvantages: Not enough extras on the DVD

...Revelation is a superb supernatural thriller staring Jeff Fahey, Nick Mancuso and Carol Alt. Events are set around the sudden dissapearance of millions of people at then same time that a full nuclear missile strike occurrs and the missiles too disappear. From this sudden change in the world the reign of a new Messiah begins only he is not quite what people think. Some great acting and excellent special effects make this a very entertaining film. Rated as a pG in the UK I think it should really have been a 12 certificate based on the overall theme and some of the more violent scenes. Extra features on the disk are limited.... Read review

God Bless Those Pagans
Review of Mystery White Boy - Jeff Buckley by  shanecahill

Advantages: It's fantaboulistically funktastic
Disadvantages: It has some terrible choons

...(the Wolf River for anoraks) on May 29th 1997. Since that time there have been three releases by his record company: Mystery White Boy: a collection of his best live performances between '95 and '96. Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk: Demos from the album which Jeff planned as a follow up to Grace. Live A L'Olympia: One entire gig recorded in France. So that's what this is, a collection of his finest live performances as selected by his band. About time I got on with this really. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dream Brother/ 8:48 / Recorded at Club Logo, Hamburg, Germany. Febuary 22 1995 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The first track is taken from Grace. This live version is far longer... Read review

Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay
Review of Darkly Dreaming Dexter - Jeff Lindsay by  damieng

Advantages: An interesting new perspective taking us inside the thought processes of a killer
Disadvantages: At times Dexter seems to step out of character

...Darkly Dreaming Dexter is a disturbing story that delves deeply into the mind of a killer, namely Dexter Morgan. Alternately macabre and wryly amusing, Jeff Lindsay’s debut novel is a thriller that puts us in touch with the sick reasoning that motivates a person to kill and kill and kill again. To the outside world, Dexter Morgan is simply a forensic blood spatter expert working with the Miami Police Department. His foster father, Harry, was an outstanding policeman before he died, his foster-sister is also a detective working Vice with the Miami PD. But the seemingly normal family and upbringing hides the fact that there is much, much more to Dexter than meets the eye. He has a secret “hobby” he is a serial killer, unable to fight the urge to kill, controlled by an inner voice that he refers to as the Dark Passenger. Thanks to his... Read review

Classic album (with live bonus)
Review of Grace/Mystery White Boy - Jeff Buckley by  dtait07

Advantages: A must have album, fantastic price
Disadvantages: Jeff isn't here to release studio albums rather than live ones

...to leave you feeling positive about the artist. For me, I often think it takes most great artists three albums to really secure their place in history. Grace, achieves Jeff's place but leaves you in no doubt that without his death he would have written many more classic albums. Mystery White Boy To ensure that the hoards of fans weren't left with just Grace there are numerous different Jeff Material to come out of the woodwork since his death. Mystery White Boy being one of them showcasing Jeff's talent as a live musician. Featuring seven off Grace it is the more interesting covers like the smiths 'i know its over' that standout here. There are some really good guitar tracks on here, illustrating Jeff's genre and being the top of his game with songs like 'I Woke Up In A Strange Place'. I think live albums are often a tease especially... Read review

When nothing is quite as it seems...
Review of Panic - Jeff Abbott by  hlmccarron

Advantages: Gripping read
Disadvantages: White knuckles

...Prior to me reading "Panic" I had not heard of the author Jeff Abbott. I've since discovered he is the author of eight mystery and suspense novels, and his writing has been compared to the likes of John Grisham. His novel "Panic" was published in 2005 and film rights have been optioned by The Weinstein Company to use the novel as framework for a motion picture to be directed by Richard Sheperd. Throughout reading the book, I kept thinking to myself "Damn, this would make a really good film". Unfortunately, I was left disappointed that my genius idea had already been snapped up before the book was published. I am now left pondering where to invest my floating millions. -- The Discovery -- Having lived in complete ignorance of the existence of Jeff Abbott, it was an unplanned discovery at a car boot sale that introduced me...
