Taking the mystery out of the thriller club!
Review of The Mystery & Thriller Club by
purplelynne
Advantages: Cheap books initially
Disadvantages: Not much choice
...holdall? I have about 20 in an assortment of colours – well it feels like that anyway!
The magazine contains an array of authors such as Lee Child, Patricia Cornwall, Ian Rankin, Michael Connelly, Robin Cook, Jeffery Deaver, John Grisham and James Patterson.
In amongst your club magazine there are also other smaller catalogues with a selection of fiction and non-fiction titles, and they do not necessarily come under the mystery or thriller genre. Be warned though, some sale catalogues they send through the post do not count towards your club commitment. They do let you know this, but it is written in very small writing at the bottom of the page, and you really have to search for it.
Editors choice
Every month in the club magazine there is an editors choice, which usually consists of two books around the £18 mark. These books...

mystery thriller magic
Review of The Mystery & Thriller Club by
carolannjo
Advantages: great introductory offers, available online or post
Disadvantages: need to remember to choose a book or reject editors choice
...grace is that usually the editors choice will be something you'll actually be interested in reading as they are usually the latest mystery/ thriller releases.
It is also one of the most easily accessible clubs via internet post or telephone (and you definately CAN speak to a human on the telephone as the very last option once it toggles through all the choices is to speak to customer services).
My only complaints are the time it takes to send you your books, I've waited upwards of 28 days so if you're in a hurry or want a particular book for holidays etc need to order it well in advance. Also the amount they charge for postage and packing is a bit steep. One last thing is depending on who delivers the books, as on occasion mine have been left in full view on my front step by the courier and on another my neighbours books were left in MY...

Micheal Jacksons - Thriller
Review of Thriller [Remastered] - Michael Jackson by
lauzdoors
Advantages: Lots of cracking tracks from the king of pop
Disadvantages: none
...This is a classic Micheal Jackson album,in my opinion it was and is his best album to date.
The album included iconic and memorable tracks such as Billie Jean and Wanna be startin somethin.
For me there is not one song I dont like. Each song sounds different and makes me feel different in its own way.
The track listing is as follows:
1. Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' - 6:04 - A more upbeat dance sounding track from the king of pop, that was pretty original for its time, love how this song just manages to put me in a good mood everytime I hear it
2. Baby Be Mine - 4:20 A more soulful/pop sounding track, thats a bit laid back yet as it progresses gets a bit more poppy and upbeat.
3. The Girl Is Mine - 3:42 An easy going easy on the ears sounding track, with those sickly lovey dovey vocals and lyrics :-)
4. Thriller - 5...

Michael Jackson's Thriller
Review of Thriller - Michael Jackson by
Mickie26
Advantages: Great songs, talent, highly skilled voice, excellent sound quality
Disadvantages: You might not like Michael Jackson
...There is no other album like Michael Jackson's Thriller even after 25 years it still remains a class above the rest in my opinion. Michael Jackson's Thriller sold in excess of 27 million copies in the USA and Michael Jackson received a ground breaking eight Grammys and 12 nominations in 1984.
The album is highly polished and has an excellent sound quality. The album produces a style that is unique to Michael Jackson which has a great dance atmosphere and has a good blend of percussion and keyboards. Tracks like "Billie Jean" and "Beat It" are part of this influential album.
I love the way Michael Jackson's Thriller captures you into a world of make believe as the music slows down and picks up throughout the album. No two songs are the same. The beat in each song is fantastic giving a good blend of variation throughout the album...

Thrillers?
Review of Thriller: Stories to Keep You Up All Night - James Patterson by
jimmijamie
Advantages: some good short thrillers
Disadvantages: some terrible ones too
...Thriller - stories to keep you up all night may have been edited by Mr James Patterson, but the stories inside were by no means a patch on any of his novels.
This anthology of short thriller stories and chapters from longer ones includes some more well known authors such as Lee Child and newer, lesser known ones over here, for example J A Konrath.
After reading the blurb on the back I decided to buy this book as it was in a sale, believing there to be some top name authors and some really good short thrillers inside. However, there in fact was only 3 names I recognised in the author list.
Also, some of the short stories were in fact just literally chapters taken from the authors' main novels, being there pretty much as advertising, trying to get you to go out and buy the full books.
There were some really good short stories...

Thrilling Stuff
Review of The Mystery & Thriller Club by
kaztaz
Advantages: Really cheap introductory offers, and cheap books thereafter.
Disadvantages: none
...I have been a member of the Mystery and Thriller club for years now, but that's not to say a continuous member.I initially joined as the offer i received through the door seemed to good to be true. You could buy five books for 20p each, and get a book free, well with an offer this good i would be a fool to resist, so i joined.
~It took about two weeks for my books to arrive, and i was really pleased with them they were all in hardback, and original works, and the free book was a novel by James Herbert whom i really enjoy reading.
~Of course there is a slight snag to getting these virtually free books.By accepting the books on offer you have to agree to buy at least four books in the following year, but since i first joined they have changed it,you now have to buy at least one book from each issue of their next four magazines. So you still...

"Thriller" - 60,000,000 copies
Review of Thriller [Remastered] - Michael Jackson by
Coolfox1988
Advantages: Groundbreaking - No wonder it's the biggest selling album of all time
Disadvantages: Not Enough Songs, but leaves you with a great taste for things to come
...A little bit of background to this classic Michael Jackson album:
In 1982, Jackson released his second Epic album, "Thriller", which became the best-selling album in music history with more than 60 million copies sold worldwide. The album spawned seven hit singles, including "Billie Jean", which was the first music video by an black artist to receive regular airplay on MTV. "Thriller" spent 37 weeks at number one and remained on the Billboard album chart for 122 weeks. It was eventually certified 26x Platinum in the United States and is still the biggest selling album of all time...and guess what, I am not surprised!
Here is a rundown of each track and why it appeals to me;
"Wanna Be Startin' Somethin" - Fast paced, beat orientated, simple and funky. It is it's simple yet outlandish and original rythm along with Michael...

Trouble Cancelling Membership.
Review of The Mystery & Thriller Club by
snowwhite77
Advantages: Initial Offer Great.
Disadvantages: You can buy the books cheaper elsewhere.
...I joined Mystery and Thriller Club, 2004. I ordered my introductory 5 books for £5.00. Ordered a further 4 boks form them, and then cancelled membership. Book number 4 did not arrive. had to fill out a form for this.
Moved house a little later, and 1 year on i am getting letters threatenin to take me to court for an unpaid £140.00.
They also claim they never received my non receipt form and I have had to fill out another one of those too.
Contacted trading standards, and have sent them a 3rd letter. Trading Standards have told me to give them 21 days to respond or they will take it up.
They say i never cancelled!!
Never join this book club. In my experience it is a total nightmare. Great if you keep ordering books, and a nightmare if there are any problems. You sit on hold for at least 15-20 mins on their phone line...

Book Club Visit
Review of The Mystery & Thriller Club by
damien.gallery
Advantages: Good value over time
Disadvantages: Expensive
...I joined the mystery and thriller club about 6 months ago. The club offers a selection of horror and murder mystery books at reduced prices. The books are hardback versions of the publications and cost about half the retail price or the same as what you would pay for paperbacks. I have got 2 harback books that do not seem to be available as paperbacks (yet at least). The aims of the club are to bring to the reader the best on offer of horror and mystery thriller (murder) books available at discounted retail prices.
The reader benefits from getting hardback books at knockdown prices. Some of the books will be new releases and others not yet available in UK shops. The range is fairly good, mainly murder mysteries and horror with some other books thrown in of mixed variety, such as documentary style or off topic books by well known authors...

Audi A4 2.0 saloon
Review of Audi A4 2.0 by
DanielDuggan
Advantages: Quality of construction, good looks
Disadvantages: Small interior, engine lacks low-down torque & power
...and transmission
The A4 2.0 is sufficiently powerful during motorway driving at coastal altitudes, but here in Johannesburg (1800M above sea level) there is a deficit of torque and low-down power to gracefully propel this relatively heavy car, this is noticed particularly when accelerating from rest. This lack of torque tends to spoil the gear change and extra attention is required if stalling of the vehicle is to be avoided. This engine has only an average specific power output of 96KW from its two-liter displacement, this is disappointing as similar specific outputs, sharper throttle response and more personality were offered in motor cars engines of 30 years ago.
Handling, steering & road holding
Handling although still somewhat ponderous is exact and not as wooden as in previous Audis. The steering is well weighted giving a feeling...
