Thunderbirds are GO! (Sorry...)

Advantages: Story okay for kids, humour brilliant for adults
Disadvantages: Okay so the plot's weak.. .but who cares?!?!?

...I saw Thunderbirds without very high expectations - it looked like a cheesy kids adventure with no real surprises in store. Still, I was interested to see what they did with the concept of Gerry Anderson's vintage puppet show. Taste the cheese. The cheese is goooooooooooood. I wasn't born when the puppets of International Rescue first started strutting their heroic stuff no TV, and by the time I became fashionable again, I was too old to want to watch it. I have seen one or two episodes, but I'm not what you'd call a fan. With cartoons and the like being made into films with varying degrees of success, how would the puppets fare? Thunderbirds Are .... Pretty Good Actually!

Advantages: Good fun, entertaining, well realised
Disadvantages: Weak plot

...It seems ages ago since I saw Thunderbirds. In fact, it was our anniversary on July 25th, so it wasn?t too long ago really, but I have seen two other films at the cinema since. Oh well, Ciao have caught up now and Thunderbirds is finally listed, so let me cast my mind back. Well, a couple of weeks ago is a long time at my age ;-) I have never been a huge fan of Thunderbirds. I remember watching a story with alligators on the projector at home during my childhood, as Dad had it on those old films. Then my son went through a Thunderbirds period and we had to buy him all the toys. (He?s still JeffTracy on Ciao!) But what really made me want to see the 2004 film version was good old nostalgia. Thunderbirds, Ho! No, wait, wrong animal...

Advantages: Incredibly loyal to what made Thunderbirds what it was
Disadvantages: Lacklustre plot

...thing I really noticed about the film was the opening credits. Which is not surprising, seeing as they come first. These were seriously cool. Almost worth the £4.50 I paid to get in in their own right. Basically, a cartoon of the names of all the main people involved, being played around with by the Thunderbirds I know and love to a slightly re-orchestrated version of the original TV theme tune. This was both well-done and amusing, and got me right in the mood for a good bit of Thunderbirding, whilst potentially introducing new fans to the Thunderbird machines. Then you get into the film proper, seeing Alan Tracy, the youngest of the five Tracy brothers, stuck in an American boarding-school, dreaming of being a Thunderbird like his older brothers. 1960 Triumph Thunderbird

Advantages: Free road tax, reliable, appearance, ease of maintenance
Disadvantages: lack of security needs aftermarket locks

...125 would give her a run, only 4 gears, drum brakes, no turn signals etc etc. Fun? In spades. What makes it even more pleasant was other bikers and afficianados. Where ever I stop, people speak to me, but ogle the bike. It tops out at about 110, cruises easily at 70; returns around 55 to the gallon, but no figures can measure the grin factor. Those figures are obviously helped by the bigger (amal concentric) carb, higher compression and the alloy head. It leaves the usual 1960's mark wherever it's parked, but even overnight is a couple of spots; attention to detail when putting the pieces together, care when placing gaskets and care when tightening up make a difference. Disadvantages: don't get vehicles with it

...Thunderbirds is a popular TV programme, especially with boys. There is Thunderbird 5, Thunderbird 4, Thunderbird 3, 2 and 1. Where do they keep all these crafts? In Tracy Island, of course! Tracy Island is an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Jeff Tracy owns Tracy Island. It looks quite small on the outside, but is really big on the inside, like the TARDIS! Thunderbird 5 lives in space and receives messages then sends them to Jeff. Thunderbird 4 lives at the bottom of Tracy Island and does the underwater jobs. Thundering Basslines and cool looks

Advantages: Great looks, great price, good build quality
Disadvantages: A little 'neck' heavy but just takes a bit of getting used to

...In a world that seems dominated by either the classic Fender's or the more unusual 5 and 6 string basses, the Epiphone Thunderbird provides some of that 70's mystery at a price that still affordable. Combining cool looks with above average build quality for the price, the Thunderbird bass provides a deep rumble to an outfit. There is nothing refined about this bass, which is not always a bass thing. Its unlikely you'll be playing smooth jazz grooves in this but put your strap down low and grab a pick and you're away. Tones controls provide a sweep of sounds but I found it best just cranked to the max with some good old rock n roll playing on the stereo. Tuning stability is good, as are the quality of the parts and overall, for the right job, I think this is an excellent bass....

Advantages: Thunderbird 2 says 5 phrases but the other vehicles only say 3 phrases, the vehicles phrases are spoken by their pilot
Disadvantages: The batteries don't last very long, the vehicles are made of plastic so they may break easily in small childrens hands, the lever used to release the pod sometimes jams

...the main vehicle by releasing the red lever which is located just in front of the tail on the main Thunderbird 2 body. The pod can hold one of the two other vehicles which are also included within this set, they are Thunderbird 4 and The Mole. They are small enough to fit into the pod but only one at a time. Both Thunderbird 4 and The Mole are yellow. Thunderbird 2 has retractable legs which are released by pushing the red buttons which can be found next to the pod - there is one red button on each side and each red button releases the two legs on its' side - to enable Thunderbird 2 to stand up you must release all four legs. There is another red button located on the front of Thunderbird 2 and this activates the voice which can be used to make playing with the vehicle more exciting. ...too late father! • Stand by for blast off! • The ThunderBird theme tune Mine only had 4 though :( Now I’ve heard the bad point of the product is that if you purchase the island, it doesn’t come with the vehicles inside the box, you have to purchase them individually, and that is not a simple task. Every one tries to buy TB2, as you get 2 extra vehicles with it. One of the things I found bad was that I ended up losing all the tops of the palm trees. When TB2 was on the pad one time it even broke the tree. The Round House and the Pool part are not on fully, and keep falling off if you pick it up. ThunderBird 1- (or the little silver and blue one), the only problem i fould with this was flying it with the wings open, and the fact it had no landiing strut.
