...Growing up with Star Wars, I was expecting THX-1138 to be a rough blueprint for Lucas' later success. Ive known the basic plot for this movie forever (a man trying to break out of the system), but its not until actually seeing it that you feel like your really tapping into what a dark visionary Lucas can be. The movie has the feel of a very Orwellian utopia, where you have only a number for an identity, and a Christ-like image on the wall is the only one you open can legally up to. As a summary, the film depicts a future in which all humans live underground in a city of boundless expanse. How did they get there? We are not told. There are no narrative explanations, no judgments, and no heavy handed moral to mediate the film's impact. THX 1138 simply shows us a world. Take from it whatever moral you deem fit. Advantages: Big sound.

...THX are not a standard. It is just a certification that that particular product meets a strict criterion. And this criterion and certification comes from Lucas Art’s. Cambridge Soundworks Megaworks 5.1 THX 550 achieves this certification. With 500 RMS of power, it does get the certification in a big way. It comes in a big box and the manual are clear as spring water. The first thing you’ll notice is about this system is that the metal badge (to me anyway). That THX logo just makes the owner proud of having this unique system. It has a big wooden subwoofer and 5 satellites speakers. But don’t let the satellites size fool you, the got power in the sound they make. ...I used this product for 6 months together with a Audigy 2 THX certified soundcard. My conclusions as follow: Movies & Gaming 5 / 5stars You will be glued to your chair. It's got a huge soundstage thanks to the meaty subwoofer. Satelites are accurate and precise. THX certified they defenitively are! Surround and Stereo Listening 3½ / 5 stars Treble overly bright and scratchy, midband a bit closed in and the sub is a bit woolly. I constantly found myself changeing treble and base settings moving the sub around the room for better placement. I changed the front speakers with tannoy mercurys and that cleared up the treble and midband isue. Bottom line: This is by far the best PC speaker package I ever heard but don't fool yourself, if your'e looking for hi-end sound quality you will have to spend alot more.... Read review

...The overall experience you get from the THX 1138 Directors Cut DVD is certainly a good insight to the mind-set and creativity of George Lucas. This futuristic film is one of the "must have" films around - even if you watch it just once. The film itself is set in a stark, white-washed, micro-managed land - where everything done is watched and scrutinised: what is watched on the entertainment system; what medicine you use and how much; who you make love to - and when. The shaven-head, nameless, populous go about their daily routines, with the lead character, THX 1138 - yes, they have an insignia as their name - shown as working as a handler of radioactive materials, carefully monitored by Big Brother-esq controllers. The box contains 4 satellite speakers, a subwoofer, and a control box, as well as some lenths of wire, and various fixings for the speakers. The speakers look good (but better without the grill), and you can see the Logitech/THX branding, which is nice if you're a style concious person. But who cares about style, you're reading this because you're wanting to know what sound they make, right? These offer excellent quality sound, which could be compared to that of a much more expensive, Hi-Fi system. Advantages: Light years ahead of the usual 1970s rubbish

...Buy One Get One Free - that is how I came to pick this up. Picture of tagged man's profile and that's it - it certainly looked like a conundrum, "Hmm" I said, and so I bought it. OK well technically I didn't buy it - it was Buy One Get One Free, but anyway. THX1138452FGYT997 is the name of the film (or at least it is some of those characters) The point is the name is basically, "You have no name." Robert Duvall (who I only know from "Falling Down") looks very different here as a man who is living in a oppressive world where the government drugs the workers who are then happy being dull doing nothing much for reasons unexplained. THX1138 tries to flee from this 1984 world (more on that later) by refusing to take his medication and he is found out - thrown in jail which consists of a pure white expanse of nothing with some other people... ...After i read lots of reviews online about this product i decided to buy it myself and see how it really sounds. The cable installation was simple but the cable of the wired remote control was to short. Later on i decided to buy an monitor lengthener and that solved the problem cause it has the same coupling. I had many big speakers before and i tested this one with my favorite songs to compare with a had before. The volume is loud and clear but it has a lack of midrange. An equalizer will solve the problem but not completely. The earphones output is what i hate the most. In the earphones mode You canot set the bass volume, only the volume and it sounds awfull. Overall this THX 2.1 sistem will satisfy many customers but not the sound fanatics.... Read review

Advantages: hdmi switching

...Having owned a marantz home cinema amp for a number of years i thought it was time to up grade. For the money (£380) this seems to be one for the best on the market, it has THX sound and DD7.1 DTS etc. It was easy to set up and includes a nice little feature where you put the little mic that comes with it on the place where you sit, it will then set up your speaker levels so the sound is at its best. I also found that i could run my sky digital picture through the amp up to my projector. The remote can be used as an all in one amp but i have been told that it can be difficult to programe. The sound is fantastic i watched master and commader and it picked up the little sounds around the ship wonderfully well and gives a really full sounding experiance. all in all i find it very hard to fault the amp and would recommend to anyone who...
