Advantages: Dark, Gripping, Thought-Provoking
Disadvantages: Need to sit down and watch it - Only disadvantage I could think of!

...Growing up with Star Wars, I was expecting THX-1138 to be a rough blueprint for Lucas' later success. Ive known the basic plot for this movie forever (a man trying to break out of the system), but its not until actually seeing it that you feel like your really tapping into what a dark visionary Lucas can be. The movie has the feel of a very Orwellian utopia, where you have only a number for an identity, and a Christ-like image on the wall is the only one you open can legally up to. As a summary, the film depicts a future in which all humans live underground in a city of boundless expanse. How did they get there? We are not told. There are no narrative explanations, no judgments, and no heavy handed moral to mediate the film's impact. THX 1138 simply shows us a world. Take from it whatever moral you deem fit... Read review

Advantages: Light years ahead of the usual 1970s rubbish
Disadvantages: What was the point - it is 1984

...Buy One Get One Free - that is how I came to pick this up. Picture of tagged man's profile and that's it - it certainly looked like a conundrum, "Hmm" I said, and so I bought it. OK well technically I didn't buy it - it was Buy One Get One Free, but anyway. THX1138452FGYT997 is the name of the film (or at least it is some of those characters) The point is the name is basically, "You have no name." Robert Duvall (who I only know from "Falling Down") looks very different here as a man who is living in a oppressive world where the government drugs the workers who are then happy being dull doing nothing much for reasons unexplained. THX1138 tries to flee from this 1984 world (more on that later) by refusing to take his medication and he is found out - thrown in jail which consists of a pure white expanse of nothing with some... Advantages: Big sound.

...THX are not a standard. It is just a certification that that particular product meets a strict criterion. And this criterion and certification comes from Lucas Art’s. Cambridge Soundworks Megaworks 5.1 THX 550 achieves this certification. With 500 RMS of power, it does get the certification in a big way. It comes in a big box and the manual are clear as spring water. The first thing you’ll notice is about this system is that the metal badge (to me anyway). That THX logo just makes the owner proud of having this unique system. It has a big wooden subwoofer and 5 satellites speakers. But don’t let the satellites size fool you, the got power in the sound they make. ...The overall experience you get from the THX 1138 Directors Cut DVD is certainly a good insight to the mind-set and creativity of George Lucas. This futuristic film is one of the "must have" films around - even if you watch it just once. The film itself is set in a stark, white-washed, micro-managed land - where everything done is watched and scrutinised: what is watched on the entertainment system; what medicine you use and how much; who you make love to - and when. The shaven-head, nameless, populous go about their daily routines, with the lead character, THX 1138 - yes, they have an insignia as their name - shown as working as a handler of radioactive materials, carefully monitored by Big Brother-esq controllers. Advantages: Bloody Loud, and Crisp Sound
Disadvantages: Subwoofer is mega heavy :D

...... its mixes sound and adds a delay and echoy effect....sometimes its nice, but most times i just wanna hear the bass so i am having to turn the rear speakers to full whack. Get these if u want a CHEAP THX speaker system, be warned its heavy and dont hurt ure back, and also neighbours will not be too happy if you buy these. oh yeah nearly forgot, installation was a 2minute job, not hard at all, everything is labelled and easily understandable. Advantages: Good cinema sound
Disadvantages: Many systems "mis-sold"

...and generally a fantastic experience to the viewer. Dolby Digital 6.1: (aka Dolby Digital 7) Starting to be more widely used this is a bit of a gimmick. They give you a centre surround speaker (to go behind you) as well as the other 5 surrounds. Don't know much about this but it seems to be a bit of a gimmick to me. DTS have released a similar system. DTS: Made by digital theatre systems as a competitor to AC-3. This format uses the same principles but encodes the sound differently. It doesn't compress it as much and so is technically a clearer sound. This is widely used in cinemas and by high quality DVD's. Personally I can't tell the difference. THX: How could you have a sound system without George Lucas and ILM getting in on the picture. This is built on THX technology but is, again, a slightly different standard. I think it's more to do... ...Having owned a set of these spekers for about 9 months now, I can honestly say they are the best PC speakers I've owned. They're an excellent 4.1 system for the money. The box contains 4 satellite speakers, a subwoofer, and a control box, as well as some lenths of wire, and various fixings for the speakers. The speakers look good (but better without the grill), and you can see the Logitech/THX branding, which is nice if you're a style concious person. But who cares about style, you're reading this because you're wanting to know what sound they make, right? These offer excellent quality sound, which could be compared to that of a much more expensive, Hi-Fi system. The sound at the high ends are perfectly clear, the mid ranges are excellent, and the sound coming from the sub is quite literally ground shaking. This is a powerful... Read review
