One of the Best Budget VGA cards
Review of XFX GeForce4 Ti 4200 by
hahnchen
Advantages: Great Value for Money, so easy to overclock
Disadvantages: Not going to come close to current generation of cards
...This card, is from the Geforce 4 series of cards. We're now onto the Geforce 6 series, so you can tell, this card is getting old. It's not going to be able to compete with the new generation of cards that are being released, but it is probably one of the best budget cards around.
A little lesson in hardware. VGA cards, have many processor pipelines, you can think of these as separate processors, it enables the processor to do calculations in parallel and thus increase the performance. Nowadays, when a company releases a budget card, it's been slowed down by having the number of processor pipelines choked down.
Not so with the Geforce Ti4200, back in the day, all manufacturers did with these cards to differentiate them from their costlier more powerful brothers, was to slow them down. But the thing is, anyone who knows anything...

More than meets the eye
Review of MSI G4 Ti4200-VTD8X by
benben_uk
Advantages: Fast, cheap, Dual Monitor support
Disadvantages: Not the most up to date
...I bought this card for my new PC from Dabs for £79.15 in July 2003, because it was the cheapest Ti4200 card they had. So far as performance is concerned, it is the same as any other Ti4200 card however I was suprised by the number of extras that came with it.
Forgetting the paper faff, the box contained:
The graphics card
A big bundle of about 10 CDs (some games, some utilites, drivers etc)
A DVI-VGA adapter
An s-video extension lead
A dongle that plugs into the s-video port on the back of the card and provides svideo in&out and composite in&out
Card features:
VGA output, DVI output, s-video/composite in/out 8x AGP, 128Mb Memory, Ti4200 chipset
As you can see, MSI have included lots of extra cool stuff - in particular the DVI-VGA adapter which allows two VGA monitors to be plugged into the card so that you can have...

Spend a little extra and go for the 5900xt!
Review of XFX GeForce FX 5600 by
Soadfan1
Advantages: Fairly cheap, Good for older games
Disadvantages: Not very good for todays games or even some of yesterdays
...No fancy titles here, just one statement thats straight to the point, you see I purchased the XFX 5600 with an understanding that it was a decent mid range performer that would replace my ti 4200, but what I found after was it was really more like the top end of a low range band of gpus.
First of all theres the attractive box, a 'sexy' X shape with some sort of robotic Lynx on the front symbolising raw power and speed, then theres the advertising on the back.
'EXTREME GAMING HEALTH WARNING'
people with high blood pressure, back, or heart problems should not use this card, the unmatched graphics quality may too to exhilarating and realistic. (We're just kidding it's all good, XFX products are safe.)'
Marketing at its most laughable since at the time the cards it was supposed to be replacing( the Geforce 4 ti 4200...

MX or Ti...
Review of NVIDIA Geforce4 MX by
Ludge
Advantages: memory and frame rates
Disadvantages: price and manual
...Okay, just to clear up the title, this is an op about the Ti series GeForce cards.
Recently, my household purchased a new computer containing a graphics card using the geforce 4 MX440 chipset. While this card is more than adequate for most games and applications on the market, it is already being outdated by the newer cards on the market.
After upgrading to a card with the Ti4200 GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), you can immediately tell the quality of the card is FAR superior to the MX series.
The card has 256MB of DDR RAM with a 6.4GB bandwidth. Basically this means that the card can shift data around your PC at incredible rates. Even when playing the next generation of games the frame rate barely ever dips from being perfectly smooth.
The software side of the Ti cards is easy to use as the latest drivers can be downloaded...

Review of MSI G4 Ti4200-VTD8X by
danny182
Advantages: Great performance, overclocking friendly.
Disadvantages: Noisy and kicks out alot of heat.
...I just recently tried installing Deus Ex II invisible war and when I tried to run it the dreaded pop-up reared its ugly head, "Graphics card does not meet required specification". Now I had known for a while that my old graphics card (MX440 64MB) was the bottle neck in my system but I still thought that it would be able to play all the modern games even if it wasn't in max resolution. I purchased this card from my mate at work for £40 as he had upgraded to a 4600 TI card.
As soon as I had taken the card from its protective bag I could see the difference between this and my old unit. It is a large AGP card with a very large heatsink and fan for the processor. It was simple enough to fit, slot in and close the clasp and boot up.
Windows XP detected the new card but I chose to install the drivers from the supplied CD...

Halo: Combat Evolved
Review of Halo: Combat Evolved (PC) by
A.Smith
Advantages: Great single player, good online play when it works
Disadvantages: Online play can be extremely slow at times, high spec pc required
...hefty graphics card to run and if your graphics card isn't quite upto the speed Halo required you'll constantly receive a message when you run the game asking you to upgrade your graphics card. I play Halo on an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (Overclocked to 2.34Ghz) and a GeForce4 Ti4200 and 512mb RAM and the game runs brilliant without a stutter, not even at the most demanding times in the game.
I found the game extremely stable in single-player mode and have never had the game crash, Halo also auto-saves when you change chapters so if the game does crash and you've forgotten to save you won't have to start from the beginning again, which is obviously nice.
Multiplayer mode:
The reason I bought Halo for PC was due to the multiplayer features which I couldn't use for Xbox. On the whole online-play with Halo is great and I've had some great times...

Fast and Cheap, suits you sir
Review of NVIDIA Geforce4 MX by
code_kev
Advantages: good value
Disadvantages: not direct x 9
...Hmmm, my old pc just killed it self, so I took it on my self to throw it away and build my self a spangly new one :D woo. After buying my components (in the case 2100xp, 512 ddr, 80 gig etc), I then had the tough choice of what card to get. Well, there was only one choice for me, nvidia, so I got my self a Pine XFX geforce 4 ti 4200 64mb. 64 mb you say? Why only 64mb ? Well simple, the 64 mb later editions of these cards run FASTER and cost less. The pine cards in particular are UNDER clocked, meaning you can over clock and, well, not really be over-clocking it. (for those not in the know, overclocking is running the card faster then it's set in the factory, but this produces more heat, and may require cooling, such as a fan. Not enough cooling, and you CAN cause damage, but I've never had this happen to me)
The latest 128 mb 4200s...

Review of NVIDIA Geforce4 MX by
Sveniteddy
Advantages: --
Disadvantages: --
...decision fell finally on the G4ti4200-td64 of MSI. This has still 64 MT main memories, is however opposite the 128 MT variants only insignificantly slower. It has however an advantage, it is substantially cheaper than the 128 MT variants. Momentarily one receives the diagram map for approximately 170, - EUR. In the scope of supply were the drivers for Windows XP/2000/NT/98/95, as well as for Linux. Thus one does not have installation problems also with Linux, at least according to manufacturer. I did not test this however so far. The drivers are updated again and again and adapted to the newest conditions, e.g. Direct X 8,1. As plays here still Aquanox, Sacrifice, and No one lives supplement forever. Why I mention, in addition later more.
The map supports dissolution of 640 X 480 with 150 cycles per second until 2048 X 1536 with 60...

I ordered a video card.
Review of Komplett.co.uk by
Pendulum
Advantages: Cheap, quite fast, great product selection and very easy ordering.
Disadvantages: They were a bit slow to dispatch my order.
...I first found Komplett's site while browsing the online retailers section of another review site. I was looking for a new graphics card to replace my ageing GeForce2 MX, and after deciding on a GeForce4 Ti4200 I went searching for a good place to buy one from.
There were so many retailers who stocked the GeForce4 Ti4200 it was difficult to choose. After browsing some customer reviews and exploring their professional site, I became confident that Komplett were the best place to buy my product from.
I was particularly impressed with their prices, good reviews and product range. They are a large stockist of computer parts, from hard drives, video cards, motherboards, CPU's, fans, cases... you name it, they stock it. Their delivery options are very limited though: they only have the option of next day delivery via DHL Overnight (£7...
