...None of you has probably heard of this film before, let alone seen it. I certainly wasn’t aware of it in the remotest before Channel 5 decided to screen it a few weeks back. As that night was free of any saucy, unworthy to speak of, nocturnal activities that any half-decent egotistic male like myself would like to shout about to his friends, I decided to make up the five viewers (get the pun?) that Channel 5 tends to get on any programme that hasn’t got any soft porn in it, and give this film a little chance and watch it. The website will also tell you how this famous liqueur is made and the process sounds equally romantic: coffee beans grown in the foothills of the Jamaican Blue Mountain range are gathered, cracked, and mixed with vanilla and sugar and alcohol then bottled and sold to those of us who love to savour a little bit of the taste and the atmosphere of a lazy Caribbean holiday whenever we can. "Tia Maria Playse"

Advantages: It's gorgeous, it'a alcoholic, it's a sweet, luxurious liqueur..
Disadvantages: Too expensive!

...This has got to be my favourite drink in the world. And to use an American expression that I think rather fitting....Period. It's fantastic, I could rave on about it using all sorts of adjectives. but that's not going to get me a high rating, nor particularly inform you guys. :P As described on the rather lovely packaging, this drink is 'uniquely dark and intriguing' and I've got to agree. Tia Maria is a dark rum and while it looks like it could be quite dry, it's got a deliciously sweet coffee/vanilla taste to it that is so moreish. Pour it into a glass and you'll see a thick, dark coloured, wonderful-smelling liquid come out. Put the glass to your lips and inhale the vanilla/coffee smell. Sip it slowly and taste the luxurious pleasure that is Tia Maria. I can't describe the taste, I wouldn't do it justice. It's26.5% volume...

Another NEW favourite....Tia Lusso

Advantages: Tastes gorgeous, an alternative to Baileys, quality
Disadvantages: Possibly the price depending where you shop

...**Seeing as I've just won a case of 12 bottles of this stuff I thought it was a good time to breathe a bit of fresh air into an old op!** :o) I was lucky enough to be invited to a Glamour evening arranged by Tia Lusso a couple of weeks ago and was served this all night - by the time it was time to go home I was hooked! I was also given 2 bottles to bring home to try. WOW! oOoOo A NICE BOTTLE? oOoOo The bottles a great design - a dark blue glass bottle shaped like a Tia Maria bottle (as Tia Maria are the company behind Tia Lusso in case you hadn't guessed!) with a dark blue and gold label. And theres a hidden use..... scrub the labels off (which isn't easy cos I think they've superglued them on!) and get some long church candles and you've got 2 trendy candle holders. I sprayed mine gold where the label was and honest...

SAVE YOUR TIAS AND LUSSON UP WITH THIS

Advantages: GORGEOUS BLEND OF COFFEE AND RUM, LOWER IN FAT
Disadvantages: STILL LADEN WITH CALORIES, A BIT PRICEY (BUT MINE WAS FREE - NER NER)

Tia's Version of Baileys

Advantages: like Baileys but thinner
Disadvantages: bit sickly

...I remmember when this was first intorduced. I was working behind a bar at the time so I got all the sale jargon. I won't fob all of that off on to you though! What's It Like? This drink is basically the same as Baileys, only instead of having an Irish whiskey base, it's got a Tia Maria base. What It Looks Like It's appearance is exactly the same as Baileys, ie a light beigey colour. Gloopy? I find this to be a smoother and thinner drink than Baileys, which makes it easier to drink, because you don't have the coating left in your mouth that you can get with other drinks. Who's It For? Well traditionally a drink like this one is seen as one for the ladies, but I know numerous men who can't get enoug of the stuff! ...What is Tia Maria Tia Maria is a liqueur spirit with the distinct taste of coffee. It is produced by Pernod Ricard and is made in Jamaica using Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee beans. The main ingredients are coffee beans, cane spirit, vanilla and sugar. Pouring the drink. I have my tumbler at the ready with a couple of ice cubes placed inside in order to chill my drink slightly as that how I generally like my spirits. When poured the liquid is dark brown in colour but not of a thick consistency or guppy but it does cling slightly to the sides of the glass, just enough so you can see a faint coating whilst looking at the glass. ...I don't always sit around drinking beer, you know. Not at all. I am a far more complex and well rounded individual than that.
