The Prince Of Tides : A glimpse into a tortured childhood

Advantages: Very well acted, absorbing, intense, shocking in parts

The Tide Has Swept In An 80s Throwback

Advantages: The guitar work is quite strong, instrumentally impressive.
Disadvantages: The sound has been done better before, vocal performance lacks passion.

...'Light From Above' is the début album from the American thrash metal band that is Black Tide. Black Tide is a band that sounds like your stereotypical 80s heavy metal/thrash metal band; nothing new at all is presented in the music here, and everything that is done was put to record far better than this over 20 years ago. As an album of 2008 'Light From Above' is not exactly a great album; a couple of decades back I'm sure the bands sound would have gone down a treat, with so many bands having created this style of sound over the years however there's just nothing new for Black Tide to offer as a band. Twelve tracks are present here; eleven originals and one cover of the Metallica track 'Hit The Lights'. The album has a run time of 49 minutes, and if you have a strong love for 80s heavy metal then you may well like what you hear here...

...THIS IS MY SECOND READ selected from the 2006 Book Club list (www.richardandjudy.co.uk) being recommended by Richard & Judy (Channel 4). I chose this book not because of its reviews on-line but it struck me most is the title itself - reminded me of my childhood summer holidays in the central part of the Philippines. When I was in my teens, spending the summer is the most enjoyable one compared it with Xmas holiday. I had the opportunity to live near the sea (250 meters away), it is convenient to stay longer along the beach witnessing the sunset and the ebbing tide deserted the shore, exposing the brown seaweeds covering the stones and coral reefs. Aaahhhh? being a grown-up urban professional, I could still wish to have the same experience as the summer is already here in the UK and parts of Europe, the US and Canada. Sorry...
