Tikka that got up and went!
Review of Grab & Go Chicken Tikka Samosa by
CarolB
Advantages: Quick, fills a gap
Disadvantages: Doesn't taste of chicken tikka!
...As far as snacks are concerned, I try to steer clear of them because of the price and calorie content. However, this morning I couldn’t find anything interesting in the fridge, and decide to treat myself to something from the local Esso garage. I had seen what seemed to be an Indian Samosa in a packet some weeks before, and thought I would track it down and have it for breakfast. So there I was salivating at the thought of a samosa, even if a tad early in the day. I went into the garage and found just what I was looking for. There was a choice of a ‘Grab and Go’ Onion bhaji, or Chicken Tikka Samosa with dipping sauce. Oohh! Sounds yummy, I thought. It cost me £1.35 which is not too bad, considering it was quite large, and appeared to be packed full.
I put it on the passenger seat as I drove to work, and kept looking...

Pataks Tikka Masala Paste
Review of Patak's Tikka Masala Curry Paste by
danmclovin
Advantages: Excellent value, delicious!
Disadvantages: Not really healthy!
...Being a big fan of curry's, I have tried many different curry sauces in a bid to find a sauce that barely resembles a curry that you would get in a proper Indian. I have tried different sauces, including Tesco's own, Morrisons own, and also the bigger branded, more expensive Patak's and Lloyd Grossman's sauces. Many of the different sauces that I have tried have been really nice, and many have been very disappointing and a waste of money. One day I decided to make my own curry, using Patak's Tikka Masala Curry Paste, and since that day I have not turned back, or bought another curry sauce.
Patak's have been providing the British public with quality Indian food since 1957. The company provides around 80% of British Curry houses with the curry sauces and mixed spices for the production of their foods, whilst also supplying most leading...

gorgeous gary and his tasty tikka!
Review of Walkers Chicken Tikka Masala crisps by
nursey311
Advantages: tasty, interesting flavour, new gary lineker advert!!
Disadvantages: misleading promotions, no grab bags
...made me try this flavour first as it is my favourite colour! In the bottom corner there is a picture of the brown paper bag associated with takeaways. These crisps had a lovely delicate taste, unlike other tikka crisps i have tried in the past, however as with the others it isn't really an authentic flavour, to many additional flavours which wouldn't be added in a proper chicken tikka. But this could be so that the crisps appeal to a broader range of people.
Even though the flavour is Chicken Tikka these are approved by the vegetarian society (as most of Walkers flavours are except the sensations range), they are also suitable for coeliac's. The weight is slightly heavier than a standard bag of Walkers (27g), coming in at 34.5g,the weight in a multipack bag is the same at 25g. So for all you dieters out there you will have to stick...

I'm having a Tikka moment.
Review of Tesco Healthy Eating Chicken Tikka Masala by
vialdana
Advantages: healthier than a takeaway, tasty.
Disadvantages: not as healthy as some similar products.
...There are moments when on a diet when you just can’t be bothered to cook a fancy meal, and rather than turning to the sausages and chips, I tend to keep a few healthy ready meals in the freezer. Tesco’s Healthy Eating Chicken Tikka Masala is one I recently tried. It is a fresh rather than a frozen meal and comes in a simple cardboard box which contains a plastic microwaveable tray with a clear plastic covering which is used as a cooking container, and (if you don’t like too much washing up, or are eating this at work or somewhere) can be used as the serving dish too.
The portion size is good, weighing in at 400g, which is better than a lot of healthy eating ranges which seem to come in at 350g which is often just not large enough for a main meal for me even when I am on a diet (I’d rather eat a slightly larger meal than spend...

Chicken Tikka In A Bag
Review of Walkers Chicken Tikka Masala crisps by
cheung
Advantages: tastes great, cheap, good quality
Disadvantages: not as good as Chinese Spare Ribs but it's better than Sweet and sour flavour
...Walker’s have created three new flavours to add to their collection. They have looked towards the Great British Takeaway and have come up with Sweet and Sour, Chinese Spare Rib and Chicken Tikka Masala flavour which I will be reviewing.
Chicken Tikka Masala is my second most favourite out of the three with Chinese spare rib leading the front and sweet and sour bringing up the rear.
The packaging of the crisps is a purple foil packaging where the front of the packet has the “Walker’s Crisps” logo on the front with the words “Great British Takeaways” in bold purple font, along with a picture of crisps and a paper takeaway bag with the flavour written on it.
Each flavour adopts this design except the Chinese spare ribs packet is brown and the sweet and sour flavour has a pinky orange packaging...

Tikka look at this
Review of Tesco Healthy Eating Chicken Tikka Masala by
offy
Advantages: Reasonable portion size, lovely taste
Disadvantages: Quite high calorie and fat content for a healthy eating meal
...looking creamy chicken curry with fluffy white boiled rice – mouth watering. The sell by date is September 2002 and the best before date is December 2002, so this can be frozen for about 9 months. The sleeve details the guideline daily amounts of calories, fat and salt for men and women.
Rating: excellent
•• Value for money ••
The meal weighs 400g, which is bigger than a lot of similar meals, and it is cheap too! It costs only £1.29 from Tescos and I think this is an excellent price.
Rating: excellent
•• Nutritional information and ingredients ••
The meal has 472 calories and 11.2g fat, which is on the high side for a calorie counted meal. The ingredients are: cooked rice, water, cooked chicken tikka (chicken, tomato paste, whey powder, salt, rice bran oil, yoghurt, potato...

Tesco Healthy Eating Chicken Tikka Masala
Review of Tesco Healthy Eating Chicken Tikka Masala by
celeste728
Advantages: Tasty, large portions and pointed for weight watchers!
Disadvantages: None!
...Fantastic ready meal! This ready meal is on a lond standing offer (until Oct 30th 2007) at Tesco's as part of a 5 for £4.00 offer, or 89p each. It's a 450g pack comprising of a plastic microwavable tray in two sections, one with rice, one with the chicken tikka. It's not too spicy / hot and really is a very good portion. There is a good amount of chicken in the tikka which I was very pleasantly suprised at considering how poor I've found some ready melas in the past.
This meal has a points value marked on the box in a red circle, this shows how many points it would be on the Weight Watchers plan. Can it get any better? A very filling meal which is very cheap and can be eaten either as part of a general healthy meal or on the Weight Watchers plan.
It can be eaten on it's own but I tend to serve it with cabbage, asparagus, stirfry...

Meal for one?
Review of The Bombay Brasserie, Chicken Tikka Makhani (Takeaway meal for one) by
liz1102
Advantages: Cheaper than takeaway, tons of food
Disadvantages: Calories! Not all is microwaveable
...!
The box is approximately 14cm across and 14cm wide. Each individual carton of food fills this space across, and three cartons fill the entire height of the box.
On to the dishes, this product is thoroughly a meal, and from the looks of the size of the packet I anticipate it will serve more than my appetite. The main meal is a mild Chicken Tikka Makhani, accompanied by Spinach Pilau rice. As sides, they also supply a portion of Tawa Paratha ('a traditional, layered, whole meal bread, cooked on a griddle') and Aloo and Onion Pakoras ('Crispy fried fresh onions and potato in a light, gram flour batter flavored with cumin and fresh coriander') Furthermore (I'm full thinking about it already!) there is a tangy Tomato chutney dip in the box too.
Each of these dishes can be oven cooked, or (as I'm going to do) microwaved - except for the Aloo...

Curry on the go!
Review of Walkers Chicken Tikka Masala crisps by
vickitomlinson
Advantages: Great authentic taste, different
Disadvantages: Authentic curry breath, fat and calorie content
...offerings in this range.
The Walkers Great British Takeaways range is available in the following flavours:
- Chicken Tikka Masala – purple bag – the subject of this op
- Chinese Spare Rib – brown bag
- Sweet and Sour – orangey bag
I left the Chicken Tikka Masala flavour until last to try. For starters, I am a veggie and am never overly keen on the idea of crisps that are meant to taste meaty (although, to be fair they usually turn out to be delicious!). Secondly I have never, ever been keen on chicken flavour anything – even when I was a meat eater – and I was concerned that these would just taste like slightly spicy roast chicken flavour crisps which I hate. However, having written ops on the other two flavours in the range, I felt duty bound to complete the job of investigating the entire...
