I tended to use local tile specialist's mainly because there was a lack of a national tile retailer around. I always thought there was a niche in the market for someone to fill and so they have in the mould of Topps Tiles. ~The history of Topps Tiles~ Topps Tiles can be traced back to 1963 when it's first shop opened in Manchester, it was called 'Multi Tile' back then and although this business flourished, it was confined to the North-West. ...With the loft conversion finally finished, it was time to do something with the bathroom floor. Since it's a bathroom, we didn't consider a carpet and began to look for floor tiles, these being my flooring of choice for bathrooms. However, whilst on a merry little jaunt round Homebase, we came upon these and decided that they would be a viable option, one of the main plus points being that they did feel slightly warmer than tiles, and certainly looked as though they would be easier to lay. **Price and availability** Depending on the tiles chosen, they cost about £5.99, for 6 tiles, these were cheaper than many of the tiles we had looked at, and involved no further purchases such as costly tile cutters. The tiles are available from homebase stores but are not sold online and are not even featured on the website... Read review

Advantages: look grear

...As a lot of you know I have recently had an extension on the house which has provided me with lots of ideas for reviews .We decided to go for a country style kitchen with pine units and laminate wood plank type floor. When in B&Q we looked at the wall tiles to go around the sink area and behind the cooker to act as a splash back. We decided we liked the mosaic tiles best. These are small tiles in a mixture of colours we decided on greens and browns keeping our colours in the kitchen natural. On the pack it says multi as it is an assortment of colours These tiles come in packs of 4 they cost £43.98p a pack. Each tile measures 305 mm wow that’s expensive do you really think we can afford it as we need about £250 to buy enough to cover the area we want to. But they are so much nicer than the cheaper tiles. So we paid out for them... Read review

Advantages: Good value, precise and easy to use

...On deciding to give our bathroom a revamp, we bought some lovely new ceramic wall tiles and stone borders, then contacted a local builder (who is also a friend) to give us a price for fixing them. We were thinking of a price of around £150 as it isn't a very big area. To our shock, he quoted us a price of £300 excluding adhesive, grout, edgings, spacers etc. Thinking that this was a bit ridiculous, we decided we would do it ourselves. We went to our local Focus DIY store to get all the tools we needed, most importantly, a tile cutter. Having never used one before, we decided to make our choice by choosing somewhere in the middle of cheap and expensive. There was a choice of cutters ranging from £12 up to £40. The Plasplugs Contractor Tile Cutter retailed at £19.99 and caught our eye because it actually looked more expensive... Read review
