Tim Burton has a Go At Poetry
Review of The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy - Tim Burton by
bauhaus1
Advantages: Twisted Fun, great illustration
Disadvantages: Too God Damn Short!!
...Who loves Tim Burton?? Thats right, we all do. And this book will make you love him that much more.
Summary: A collection of poems, dealing with kids and teenagers with very strange and twisted problems, executed beautifully and sympathetically, with the dark twisted signature of Mr Burton that we all expect and love.
If someone gave you a piece of poetry entitled "Jimmy, the hideous Penguin Boy" you would probably, smile, nod and slowly walk away. But if Mr Burton gave you a poem entitled "Jimmy, the hideous Penguin Boy", you would read it, love it, laugh and possibly read it again.
The execution of the short "stories" if you will, are so compassionate, simple and downright hilarious that you wont want to lend this book to anyone.
Simplicity is key. For example, in "Stain Boy"...."Sometimes I know it bothers him, that he...

Tim Burton's Weird and Wonderful Characters
Review of The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy - Tim Burton by
lannazus
Advantages: Easy to read, illustrations, weird in a cool sorta way...
Disadvantages: not really a kids book cos it's kinda odd
...From the author of Nightmare Before Christmas comes a brilliant little book called The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy. This oddly dark sounding title preceeds a collection of brilliantly written little stories that are in rhyme.
Just a little bit about Tim Burton. Born in 1958, Tim is the mastermind behind the Batman, Edward Scissorhands and Mars Attacks! He's one of the most acclaimed directors in the world, and still offers his masterpieces in the form of Planet of the Apes, Big Fish, and soon to come, Charlie and the Chocolate factory. As an animator and a poet, Tim channelled his good work into the likes of Nightmare Before Christmas, and ultimately using this skill to produce Oyster Boy.
The Melancholoy Death of Oyster Boy has a collection of weird and wonderful stories about characters that you'd never even dream of. Oyster...

The Melancholy Review of Oyster Boy!!!!!!
Review of The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy - Tim Burton by
donnabroom
Advantages: A great read, really funny!
Disadvantages: Too short!
...My fiancé spoiled me this year and he got me The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy as a Solstice present. I was really chuffed as I've wanted it for ages.
The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories is a collection of poetry by Tim Burton. Now Tim Burton is one of my favourite people ever and so I am probably more than a little biased towards any of his works but I will be try to be objective.
The book is about the size of a DVD case and is a paperback. The cover is black, (of course), and has the title and cover illustration, (by Tim Burton himself), printed in silver. On the back there is praise for Tim Burton.
It is simply dedicated: "For Lisa Marie".
There are 23 poems/short stories all with the theme of outsiders. The characters are all misfits such as robot boy, (born a machine), and Roy, The Toxic Boy, (who needs...

Corpse Bride-Another Tim Burton classic
Review of Corpse Bride DVD by
libertron
Advantages: Entertains both little kids and big ones alike!
Disadvantages: The only slight disadvantage is that I prefer A Nightmare Before Christmas
...The Corpse Bride combines Tim Burtons refreshingly original methods of animated storytelling with his auteurist film noir asthetics previously seen in his other films The Nightmare Before Christmas and Sleepy Hollow.
**Plot**
Set in a 19th Century village reminiscant of Victorian Britain, the story follows Victor (Johnny Depp), a young man who on the eve of his wedding day finds himself trapped in the underworld and married to a corpse bride. Although the land of the dead counters his disiplined upbringing with jazz music and colour, nothing can stop Victor from reuniting with the woman he loves, his real bride.
**Cast**
The mix of American and British cast works well here to recreate an era in British society that is not usually portrayed in animation feature films. The cast includes Jonny Depp as Victor, Helena Bonham...

It's by Tim Burton, what more need I say
Review of Mars Attacks ! (1996) by
polli
Advantages: It'll have you crying with laughter
Disadvantages: I've been trying to think of one for the past 10 mins.
...This film is an absolute classic, although when I first saw it I wasn't very impressed. I was forced to watched it again about a year later by someone who didn't believe I couldn't like it, and I have to say that it is possibly one of the funniest films I've ever seen. It kinda flopped at the box office but that was mainly 'cause I think a lot of people were not expecting Tim Burton's surreal but brilliant comedy experience. And this film is a true Tim Burton experience!
The film is a piss take of all alien invasion films (and Americans), but mainly Independence Day as if I remember correctly they came out at roughly the same time. It involves Martians arriving on Earth and the US President (Jack NIcholson) attempting to welcome them peacefully with the help of his advisor (Pierce Brosnan). The green aliens however have just come...

For Halloween, Oyster Boy decided to go as a human
Review of The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy - Tim Burton by
BlueMidget
Advantages: Interesting ideas, funny, beautiful illustrations
Disadvantages: Not to everyone's taste, not suitable for young children
...~~~ Introduction ~~~
Tim Burton is renowned throughout the world. If his name doesn’t mean much to you, you’re probably still familiar with some of his work – movies such as ‘Beetlejuice’, ‘Batman’, ‘Edward Scissorhands’, ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’, ‘Mars Attacks!’ and the recent remake of ‘Charlie And The Chocolate Factory’, to name but a few.
Best known as a director and writer for his unique, yet dark and brooding style of storytelling, Burton’s ‘The Melancholy Death Of Oyster Boy’ is a collection of his poems, which in many ways is reminiscent of some of his movies, (‘Beetlejuice’ and ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ spring to mind). As well as the poetry, the book also has illustrations, which use Burton’s distinct style, as seen in ‘Nightmare…’ and ‘The Corpse Bride’.
After a spate of buying Burton’s movies online, this book...

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas
Review of The Nightmare Before Christmas DVD by
shelley1986
Advantages: Love the animation and characters. Musical score is good too.
Disadvantages: May not be every adults cup of tea.
...This film was released in 1994 in the UK. It is an animated stop motion picture, written by Tim Burton, who is also responsible for huge films such as Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice.
This brilliant, but dark animation film tells the story of Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King, who lives amongst ghouls and goblins in Halloween Town. He comes across a strnage tree whilst walking his ghost dog and ventures down a hole into a town where Christmas is happening. Jack has never experienced anything like it before and when he returns back to Halloween Town, he decides to re-create all of the things he saw there for his own town. However, his goodwill turns sour when his mission puts the real Santa Claus in jeopardy, and so Jack has to takeover Claus's role and deliver all of the presents not to the habitants amusement...
