FREE DVDs
Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review
...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.
∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊
Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Whimsically Equine (Tim the Tiny Horse - Harry Hill)
Advantages: funny and gentle
Disadvantages: slight
...After doing even tiny bit of research I realised that I must be the only person out there who ever read "Tim the Tiny Horse" having never heard of the author. Thus, I have to take another reviewer's word that it's "typical Harry Hill" and will make an attempt at reviewing Tim as a stand-alone.
I am happy to say that it acquits itself well. Tim is a horse, blue and so tiny that he lives in matchbox with a tic-tac box for a conservatory. A single Hoola-Hoop makes his lunch (he prefers barbecue beef flavour) and a fly (called Fly) is his best friend. Tim doesn't do much - apart from a few not very successful attempts at making it big in the media he seems to spend his days watching television and socialising with Fly.
The book contains several short morality tales featuring Tim; each of them is a few pages long, with a little text...

Tim Vine Live
Advantages: Genius, fast-paced comedy
Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!
...Released in 2004, Tim Vine ? exquisitely entitled ?The Man With The Golden Pun? by The Independent newspaper ? Holds the Guinness World Record for telling the most jokes in an hour ? apparently it?s 499!! Of course, what constitutes a ?joke? would theoretically be something to make someone laugh?here on his first ever live DVD stand-up, which includes 377 jokes, he certainly does that.
Stood in front of an audience surely no more than a 100, on a small stage whilst pouring with sweat, he reels off joke after joke after joke after joke?predominantly one-liners that can be cringe-worthy at times. But the majority of the time, after a couple of seconds you?ll laugh. That?s the genius of the man?by the time you?ve ?got? a joke, he?ll be half way through the next. Hence, you can?t just watch this DVD once!
He splits up his session...

Tim, Ted and the Pirates
Advantages: Very fun book with nice bright pictures
Disadvantages: None
...Tim, Ted and the Pirates is a great fun book I bought for my boys.
The cover is red with a white skull and cross bones and has people and pirates popping out of the skull eyes and swinging on a rope. The back cover of the book is also red with a short piece about the book and a picture of a pirate ship.
THE STORY
The book starts by showing us a picture of the school where Tim goes and his teacher, Miss Wait. It is story time at school so the children make a line and go to get ready for the story.
Tim and Ted both sit nicely and wonder which story it will be. Miss Wait tells them that today the story is a special as there is a drink and a lovely surprise. Miss wait tells them that the story is called 'Little Bear's Daring deed'.
Miss Wait starts to read and the room fills up with water.
What happens to Tim and Ted now...

Time for Tim Tams
Advantages: little nuggets of chocolate heaven
Disadvantages: expensive and hard to come by if not in australia
...Australia the land of “Kangaroos , Neighbours and Tim Tams.
No, a Tim Tam isn’t indigenous animal to Australia, nor is it a long running soap opera it is in fact the finest chocolate biscuit ever invented. Ok that is a very strong statement to make but when divas such as Natalie Imbruglia, Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Love Hewitt all state they are there favourite biscuit then they can’t be all that bad! Apparently they are also the worlds number one selling biscuit per capita or so the adverts over here would have you believe.
SO what is a Tim Tam?
Tim Tams are made by Arnotts. Arnotts was originally an Australian company although are now bought out by some huge American Corporation, Campbells Soup Company I believe, but their biscuits are still made in Australia by Australian workers. Arnotts make some...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Topsy and Tim Start School
Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review
...I appreciate that this is an unusual choice of book for a homeschooler to review, but it?s one that I really remember loving as a child. Funnily enough, it is one of the few Topsy and Tim stories that none of my little ones seem to be bothered with. I don?t know whether that?s because it?s outside of their experience or because it just doesn?t appeal to them as much as the other stories.
?Topsy and Tim Start School? is part of the Topsy and Tim series by Jean and Gareth Adamson, which follow the adventures of the two twins as they experience everything that little people do! The book has a blue cover with a picture of Topsy and Tim helping little Stevie Dunton [why they hang out with him I will never know].
The story begins with Topsy and Tim walking past their old playgroup on their way to start primary school. They are excited, but...

Topsy and Tim Go On An Aeroplane
Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review
...This is one of my boys? favourites in the Topsy and Tim series by Jean and Gareth Adamson. In this Topsy and Tim story the twins are going on their Summer holidays with Mummy and Dad, which means going on an aeroplane for the first time.
Topsy and Tim take us through the terminals, up long escalators and along tunnels, explaining about luggage going on moving platforms and sweets stopping your ears from popping as the plane takes off. They meet the stewardess and the pilot and drive Dad a bit mad by fidgeting and swapping food in their special trays before arriving safely at their destination.
This is a hardback Ladybird book, measuring 16.4 x 12 x 0.6 cm, which has a RRP of £2.50. There are colour pictures on each page, which are quite simple, bright and cheerful. It is suitable for children aged from about 3 to 7.
I find Ladybird...

Topsy and Tim Meet the Firefighters
Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review
...I got our local bookshop to order this book for me about three years ago, when my eldest son was going through his fireman stage. He was a big fan of Topsy and Tim at the time so I was very pleased to discover this book!
?Topsy and Tim Meet the Firefighters? is part of the, fairly large, Topsy and Tim series of books by Jean and Gareth Adamson. Topsy and Tim are twins and their books are fantastic for helping children learn about new experiences. They are suitable for children from between the ages of about two to six.
In this story Topsy and Tim go with their Mummy to an Open Day held by their local fire station, where their friend Kerry?s Dad works as a firefighter. They learn all sorts of things about fire safety and the fire service, such as that women can be firefighters as well as men. They even get to have a ride on a real fire...

Topsy and Tim Go To Hospital
Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review
...'Topsy and Tim Go To Hospital' is written by Jean and Gareth Adamson. It is one of the many adventures of the two twins which first began to be published in 1960.
In this story poor old Tim has bumped his head and needs to go to hospital to have it checked out. He stays on the children's ward, has an x-ray and makes lots of new friends. He has such a great time that Topsy feels left out and decides that she needs to go to hospital too, with a sore tummy. Topsy is soon cheered up by Tim's homecoming and a surprise present from Dad.
'Topsy and Tim Go To Hospital' is one of the most useful books from the Topsy and Tim series when it comes to helping children cope with new experiences. Any child would be terrified going to hospital for the first time and I think that this sweet story could be very reassuring.
This book is published as...
