...Time Bandits is one of the early works of director Terry Gilliam of Monty Python fame. It is a forerunner to such later greats as Brazil, The Fisher King and Baron Munchhausen and it shows exactly the kind of directorial talent Gilliam would later become. Time Bandits was written in collaboration with Michael Palin, and stars amongst others John Cleese so you should already get a hint as to the kind of movie experience you are in for... Well, yes there is certainly a very strong Python feel about this movie, but in terms of style and fluidity it transcends the level of pure anarchism that the Python team were famed for. Yes, it is chaotic, but it is a controlled chaos which has a central purpose and a strong storyline running throughout - a claim which could never have been made for any of the real Python movies. ...The Time Bandits. ******************** ~Introduction~ Please don't laugh but this was the first 'Video' I ever saw and so holds a special fondness for me. The movie actually comes from a script originally co written by Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam. Terry Gilliam was to follow this film up with equally whimsical fantasies such as Brazil and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. ~Synopsis~ Kevin is a bored young lad with overbearing parents until one night a group of thieving dwarves magically appear in his bedroom. They have stolen a map which shows all the holes in time, the creation of everything being a rush job, left gap that one could sneak through. Oh and they are being pursued by 'The Supreme Being'. The dwarves, now accompanied by Kevin, go on a riotous adventure through time stealing as much as they can carry... Read review

...Time Bandits is a great fantasy film with a host of famous faces. It is a film of many adventures and some great comedy, released in 1981; this film never loses its touch and is an firm favourite on our family. The story is of 6 cheeky and crazy dwarves, who have stolen a precious map that shows a series of time holes scattered throughout time and across the universe. They use the map to travel through time to steal from the rich and keep their loot for themselves, but on their travels they come across a young boy who goes with them on their travels. While at the same time, an evil genius is watching them, leading them to him, luring them with the belief of an almighty powerful object that will be waiting for them at their destination. ...the bandit has a 6 speed box. Now more gears sounds good, but if your tonking along, you find yourself putting your foot through a lot of exercise for a short distance and your revving higher. ****Handling**** This is where the bike does well. Its long wheelbase a short rake angle help no end to the bikes handling capabilities. The response of the telescopic forks is really forgiving for first time riders. If feels comfortable as you start to lean the bike, it doesn't try and take you away, you are in control. Now for a heavy bike that could sound strange, but the bike is well balanced and set up for touring, so for trying to get your knee down through town, this isn't for you. ...I bought my Suzuki Bandit 600S (i.e. with a fairing) when it was just over a year old. I was very impressed: for the price of a year old Honda CB500 (boring but reliable commuter) I picked up a 600 Bandit (drummingbunny's dream bike!). I can heartily recommend this bike to anyone except the hardcore power junkies. It pulls smoothly from just above tickover in any gear: it will comfortably cruise at 30 mph in top gear. The engine goes slightly off tune when it is nearing the end of a service interval but otherwise it has surprisingly clearly defined powerbands (it's like having two turbos, brilliant!). Tickover to 4000 rpm has a nice soft response suitable for town riding, 4000 to 8000 rpm is sharper (just what you need for out of town riding) and 8000 to 12000 rpm is gung ho territory. ...I was flicking through a DVD catalogue at work and I noticed that Time Bandits had been released on DVD as well as video. It reminded me that it had been a while since I had seen this film and I thought I was long overdue for writing an opinion about it. I was also shocked to discover that the film is now 20 years old; am I old enough to remember a film that is that old and happy to see that it is still watchable today. I have only seen it on television, so it is on the film in general that this opinion is based. Time Bandits was originally released in 1981 and has a running time of approximately 120 minutes, although I have usually watched it on Channel 4 so the inevitable advert breaks add something to the viewing time. ...That most uneasy of genres, childrens fantasy, is given an almighty shake up by Terry Gilliam in this 1981 slice of nightmarish fairytale time travelling sci-fi historical war drama comedy. Well, it is Terry Gilliam after all, I didn't say this was going to be plain sailing. Reaching into the crevices of his imagination, he has put on screen an endlessly enjoyable romp through, time, space and your childhood wardrobe. Co-written with fellow Python Michael Palin, who one suspects gave the screenplay a solidity and kept it within boundaries, Gilliam tells the tale of schoolboy Kevin. Kevin lives in suburbia, with suburbanite parents, glued to their television watching gameshows and keeping up with the Joneses. So far, so familiar territory. Advantages: Fun, Economic, Reasonably priced
Disadvantages: Wobbles over 100mph, Forks bottom out, Too high for people with short legs!!

...strings, insurance-wise and easier for town work, as college is only a few miles from home. We had to find a balance between the size, as we ride two up quite a lot and the economy as students are notoriously short of the green stuff! (Don’t think much money’s green these days though is it?) We tested a few different bikes from our local Gedges motorcycle shop, and accidentally found the Bandit in the workshop as it had just come in second-hand, having been sold from there from brand new and serviced there. We both fell in love with it there and then, even allowing for the fact that the previous owner had neglected to maintain the tyres and the back one was badly bulging. But we both knew that this would be the bike we bought. We went back a few days later after it had been serviced etc and took it out for a test ride. Sure... Read review

...When I found out that Time Bandits was being released on DVD, I jumped at the chance to get hold of a copy and I've not been disappointed. The film is a story about a group of Dwarves who steal the Supreme beings map of the universe, this map shows the destinations of all the "Time Holes" in the universe enabling the rowdy bunch to travel back and forth through time commiting robberies. On their travels they end up in the bedroom of al 11 year old boy, Kevin who ends up going along with them on their Journey. On this Journey they encounter Napolean (Ian Holm), Robin Hood (John Cleese) and the Roman King Agamemnon (Sean Connery), whilst also paying a very brief visit to the Titanic, all the while theiving what they can (including Napoleans Artificial hand!). ...When I bought my Bandit I was looking for a bike that would be reasonably priced, cheap to run, easy to ride either solo or carrying a passenger and capable of covering reasonable distances. I can honestly say that in my opinion the 600 Bandit S lives up to all my expectations. I was mainly looking for the unfaired version, as I prefer the looks of the "naked" bike - a motorcycle should just be an engine, two wheels, a seat and a headlight! But when I first saw mine "in the flesh" I fell in love with it immediately - to the extent that I bought it without a test ride and paid the exact asking price!! Luckily the ride home was enough to convince me that I had made the right decision.
