What is truth?

Advantages: Interesting ways of looking at science fiction/pop culture
Disadvantages: Not as widely available as it should be

I have been a fan of science fiction for as long as I can remember (I can't quite remember the original Star Trek in first run, but it was in recent re-run when I first acquired sentience and memory...). Heigl played the uptight control-freak perfectly, looking down her nose at the lowly Mike, not really knowing anything else apart from her work and taking a list of questions and answers on every date. However, underneath her sensible and smart personality she is actually just an ordinary girl who is cute, clumsy and witty and does a little dance every time she's happy, which makes it impossible not to like her. Mike is the complete opposite being a very confident and crude womaniser relating every sentence to sex and being completely blunt about what both sexes want. ...for Naked Truths and she's a great addition. Her story is somewhat of a mystery throughout the book and I enjoyed this part, I tried to guess several times about Catherine's past and I was never right, so it was a real surprise when it is revealed right near the end of the book. It really made sure the book ended with a bang and I think it's definitely the best story in the book by far. John was a character that comes about in Catherine's story and a really nice man, someone you can imagine yourself fancying a bit because he sounds perfect! Carnegie has used all her knowledge of magazines in this book, as you see it from both a journalists and an editors point of view, and the insight was interesting for me! One of the things I like most about The Daughter in Time is that there's a little touch of the Animal Farm about it ? I do like to see anything which ? for all the right reasons ? asks us whether or not we can always trust the "official" version of the truth. Stodgy, reactionary historians, teachers, school textbooks, even the beatified Thomas More, all get a very-probably justified slating from Tey's Grant. And a good thing that is too! Reading The Daughter in Time after so many years, I must admit to finding it slightly irritating in places. ...do love the long lasting aroma of CK's Truth,.... maybe at last the Truth is out and Calvin Klein may start making serious perfumes for women and men, instead of mainly unisex, who knows! The good news is that it comes as eau de parfum (EDP) only (which is more concentrated than the eau de toilette) and therefore has more staying power. The best thing to do next time you are in a department store is to test this fragrance on your wrist and leave it, and see what the aroma is like afterwards, see how it reacts with you own body chemistry. It smells fine for me but as with all fragrances one should test personally. There are 3 sizes to choose from; 30ml, 50ml and 100ml. Prices are around £19.50 for 30ml, 50ml is £32.50 and 100mL is £45. Both the 30mL and 50mL work out at 65p per mL but the 100mL is better value at 45p per 100m...

The time for truth is now

Advantages: brilliant use of nonsensical language

The book is about a man called william de worde who becomes the accidental editor of the first discworld newspaper, Throughout the book he meets people who want him dead, hires a recovering vampire to take the iconographs who keeps turning to dust, a man who has hilariously shaped vegetables, two thugs hired to kidnap lord vetinari(the patrician), a lord vetinari lookalike, comes up against his own father, all because he is in search of the truth. The way terry pratchett entwines all of the characters together into the most amazingly compelling plot which comes together marvellously. Since reading this book I have since read 9 others from the discworld series and I am still in awe of this man who can create this masterpiece of fantasy fiction....
