Reviews of time magazine
PC Magazine
Review of PC Magazine by
SSJ
Advantages: Clear and very informative, with very reliable reviews that aren't for complete professionals only. Not full of adverts
Disadvantages: Not for a beginner to start from, and perhaps more articles and columns needed
...This is a very informative magazine, which leaves out the humungous amounts of adverts seen in rival magazines. Now this is probably not a magazine for the complete beginner, but if you are familiar with computers for some time, or work in the industry, then this is the one for you.
The opinions in the magazine are well backed up by rigorous tests and they are very very reliable. The news sections also keep you upto date with what affects the everyday PC user while the other sections offer regular tips and tricks.
The only thing that I would say is bad about it is that there isn't enough of the magazine there to keep you happy!...

More please!
Review of More! by
aspo
Advantages: cheap, good to read, good articles
Disadvantages: none
...The More is a brilliant magazine for teenage girls. It gives lots advice and is full of gossip. The horoscopes are useful and the articles are interesting. Much of the magazines is very funny and does a good job of making you feel good about yourself by continuously lowering the status of men! The price of £1.45 is very reasonable as many similar magazines cost over £2. The magazine comes out every two weeks. Some times the magazine can be a bit harsh on celebrities but this is usually funny. A good read!...

Helpful and simple
Review of Computeractive by
Dunc
Advantages: Useful articles and advice, no fancy jargon
Disadvantages: None really
...Computeractive is a computer magazine without all the jargon of other computer magazines. The magazine is excellent value at £1.20, although it does not come with a cover disc. However, cover discs on other magazines seem to mainly be a waste of time, full of useless demos or obscure programs that could easily be downloaded anyway.
Computeractive reviews new products, individual components as well as full systems. The magazine also contains helpful guides to things such as setting up an internet connection or building a spreadsheet. There is also a news section that will keep you up to date with all the latest developments in the IT world.
The magazine even contains columns by ‘famous’ people such as Uri Gellar. There are letters pages and Q&A sessions, all of which adds up to a very useful magazine. The magazine is particularly...

Maxim's good
Review of Maxim by
migetboy99
Advantages: Awesome!
Disadvantages: None
...Maxim magazine is one of the best that I've ever read. It is packed with info about women, sex, gadgets, and sports. Each magazine has several photo shoots of beautiful women, and wonderful advice on how to have one of your own. Though it is not a pornographic magazine, you can certainly get your kicks from it. Most of the photos are half-nude, and of amazingly beautiful women. I would definetly recommend this magazine to any man, or woman. Though I do not subscribe to it, I buy it almost monthly. It is my favorite magazine on the stands right now. If you are a man and you haven't read this magazine yet, you definetly need to give it a try. Both the British and American versions are great, giving you two times a month to read this magazine....

Probably the best car magazine around
Review of Car Magazine by
Infinity
Advantages: Professional in every way
Disadvantages: Price?
...I find CAR magazine to be one of the most professional publications out there. With years of experience behind them and writers with plenty of knowledge in their area. For example Gordon Murray from Formula One car Design fame!
All of the articles cover the whole subject; there is generally no bias towards any type of vehicle that is reviewed, which I feel is vey important. The only time you will find bias is when the vehicle is exceptional. Take for example an article in he April 1999 issue covering the then new Nissan Skyline R34. CAR magazine described it as the best all-round supercar in the world.
The photography in the magazine is always very professional and atmospheric to give a perfect view of the car.
Basically CAR magazine is, in my opinion, the best car magazine out there with the best reviews of every-day cars and out...

Empire of the Sun
Review of Empire by
Zoe
Advantages: Intelligent and informative
Disadvantages: only comes out monthly
...This is the best film magazine I have ever encountered. The reviews are honest educated and informative, the articles witty and intelligent and the interviews insightful. I believe it is made by the same comapany as Sky and Heat magazines, the other two magazines I regulary buy. It is a refreshing change to find a magazine that doesn't patronise and is honest about which films are actually worth seeing. There is enough content to keep you interested for a long time and often has great promotions, competitions and special offers. This is one of the few magazines I don't mind shelling out for on those long train journeys to and from uni....

A True Magazine for Car Enthusiasts
Review of Car Magazine by
ali007
Advantages: Photography, Well Written, Accurate
Disadvantages: Reviews Somtimes a bit Similar
...and often takes a different approach to other publications.
Car is very much a sports car orientated magazine, and although you'll find reviews on virtually all new cars, the main features and head to head reviews are about performance cars. They wont compare an Astra estate to a Focus estate for example. Which is probably the reason I buy this over magazines such as What Car which is more about family and rep transport.
There is also a very comprehensive catalogue of new cars which is almost certainly the best of any car magazine on sale today. And finally, the magazines also runs a fleet of 'long termers' cars which the writers run over a period of 6-12 months and are regularly commented on, these are often witty and provide a good incite into how new cars perform over lengthy periods of time....

Leader in P.C Magazines for competent users
Review of PC Plus by
MByford
Advantages: Free CD and advice pages are good
Disadvantages: Quite expensive ( 4.99 )
...people who do not use computers much or who are not aware of some of the concepts. This is why I feel this magazine is for the more advanced user.
Included with the magazine is a free CD that is part of the magazine of every month. Most of the time it is very good and offers all basic utilities that you may need from your computer. The disks are worth keeping and collecting like I do as they will always have a task to perform for you at one time or another as I have found out. Included in this magazine, as with every computer magazine is hundreds of adverts for computers from all the major businesses in the UK who will all advertise computers at reasonable prices. Also, nearly all equipment you need can be found in here such as networking devices such as routers, hubs etc.
The one main reason I rate this magazine over other similar...

Not wonderful
Review of PC Answers by
sjhoward
Advantages: Magazine contains relatively few adverts, and is printed on reasonably high quality paper
Disadvantages: The editorial is mediocre, and its far too expensive
...PC Answers is one of those computer magazines where they seem to spend half their time working on the CD Rom, and half their time on the magazine.
Whilst the magazine is OK, ComputerActive is a very similar type of mag but it goes much more in depth, and explains all the jargon too.
The £4.99 price tag may be low when compared to some computer magazines, but it is rather expensive when you actually get hold of the magazine and CD-Rom and see what you have got for your money: a 114 page magazine, and a CD-Rom containing mostly freeware and shareware which can be downloaded anyway.
What little editorial exists is mediocre, and is full of technical jargon.
For anyone thinking of buying this mag, I would point to ComputerActive as a cheaper, and better, alternative....

Sugar Magazine
Review of Sugar Magazine by
x_Gemzi_x
Advantages: Lots of good content
Disadvantages: Only comes out once a month!
...When I first read this magazine, I must have been about 12 years old. I think that I was probably a little too young at the time, and not emotionally ready for the issues with which the magazine dealt.
The cover is bright and colourful, containing catchy headlines along with a picture of a celebrity.
The magazine includes many sections; real life, fashion, problems, competitions and much more!
The real life stories are dealt with in a sympathetic way, and the real names of the people involved in the stories can be hidden to protect reader's identity.
The advice/problems section is handled very efficiently, and good advice is given to those young people who seek it.
The fashion pages provide a range of fashion advice, but I sometimes feel that the models they use should be a little bigger, as this magazine influences girls lives...
