Some of these headings are not actual section headings, but they will outline the content that is contained within them. Advantages: One of the cheaper magazines of its type, good coverage of celebrity happenings
Disadvantages: Only small articles on anything but celebrity's

...in bright red, and the main background is white though you can't see much as there are so many pictures and captions vying for your attention. It's a very busy cover, but that's the status quo for these types of celebrity gossip magazines so it can be excused. This issue promises me an article on the return of 'skinny celebs', and pictures of Sarah Harding, Cheryl Cole and Keira Knightly (the usual suspects for this particular headline) take up most of the space. Also along the bottom is an insult from Jessie Wallace to Jodie Kidd. They're both Strictly Come Dancing contestants, and since the people who watch that are likely to buy this kind of magazine it's a good way to attract their market. ...confessed Democrat. Interesting stuff, but that is all the article says. There's no mention of what Palin's main views are, or even what time and date the VP debate is on, so you can watch it if you so choose. I assume the writers think their readers would be too busy watching Hollyoaks, or paint dry, to concern themselves with whether or not Biden is going rip Palin apart, or if he is going to stand back and make herself look like a complete loser on her own. Ahhh, now do you understand why I just…flick. Star Magazine is part of the Northern and Shell Media group, who also publish papers such as the Daily and Sunday Express, the Daily and Sunday Star, as well as OK! Magazine and New Magazine. ...I'm a horrendously late newcomer to Q Magazine, having only actually bought my first issue last year, but it was a magazine that I always stood and flicked through in the supermarket as a child while my parents were paying for the shopping. Unfortunately, it stretched my small pocket money budget that little bit too far, being around £3 at the time if I remember rightly, so I stuck with my cheap teen magazines instead. History: Q launched in 1986, with it's first issue's cover stars being Paul McCartney and John Belushi. In 1990 it launched 'The Q Awards', recognizing musical talent, and in 2000 it launched QTV, a 24-hour music channel, which incidentally is one of my favorite channels. ...for the magazine ponders what songs might be next to make it to the Singstar™ stage. Finally an interesting piece on why EA Sports are so good at producing football games while a girl tries her hand – and promptly beats – some men in a Pro Evolution 4 Soccer game challenge. Monitor Monitor is the section to head for if you want to read detailed previews of games just about to be released. Taking up twenty-four pages this section offers plenty of screenshots and information on games such as Brothers in Arms, The Punisher and Monkey Mania to name but three of the fifteen games featured. It also offers a clever marking system where by the game is graded after a few days play rather than immediate impressions. Each game also has an ETA time so that if a particular one catches your eye and whets your appetite you will know exactly which day... Read review

.... There is generally always a piece of international news such as orphans in other places of the world, famine etc and in my opinion is a magazine that makes you think and brings world issues to the forefront of your living room. They have also been running an article at the back of the magazine by a lady called Samantha Warwick. She lost her husband and was a widow in her mid thirties and in the article she details how she is getting on with her life. Its typical of the sort of stories then run and is really heart wrenching at times but I think it will help a lot of women across the country who are dealing with this same issue. The magazine also has a letters page where people write in with their opinions on last weeks articles so not a problem page, a horoscopes section and a competition each week to win a designer goodie bag with lots of items... Advantages: you get all the latest film news
Disadvantages: cant think of any

.... The best thing about the dvd release is a few friends have already seen it at the cinema so you know whether it's a good film or not anyway. The magazine finishes with a few book reviews and tv reviews. It also has specials like the all time top 10 horror movies or the all time top 10 westerns. You also get the extra bit of information and in this months there is a cameo spot about James Dean as it's nearing the 50th anniversary of his death. The very back of the magazine carries five pages of adverts and these are film websites, competitions, ring tones and not forgetting that dial a hot girl section. A bit expensive at £1.50 a minute and certainly not something I would indulge in. The magazine is great value at £3.99 and I now prefer it to Total Film. ...and often takes a different approach to other publications. Car is very much a sports car orientated magazine, and although you'll find reviews on virtually all new cars, the main features and head to head reviews are about performance cars. They wont compare an Astra estate to a Focus estate for example. Which is probably the reason I buy this over magazines such as What Car which is more about family and rep transport. There is also a very comprehensive catalogue of new cars which is almost certainly the best of any car magazine on sale today. And finally, the magazines also runs a fleet of 'long termers' cars which the writers run over a period of 6-12 months and are regularly commented on, these are often witty and provide a good incite into how new cars perform over lengthy periods of time.... ...bought it each week. Each issue comes out weekly with new stories. Some stories are great… some aren't and are there to fill up the pages! Overall, I am not a dedicated reader to Closer or similar magazines. I do tend to buy them to pass the time on a boring train journey, but I wouldn't go out my way to purchase this magazine. For me, it isn't exciting enough. The stories are similar each week and the worst part, is that they fuel their articles and the profits they make, by insulting, humiliating and damaging "Celebrities". I'd recommend this magazine to anyone who loves a good gossip, but if you're looking for something to get you gripped, this is not a magazine I would recommend.... Read review
